Verified ReviewerDespicable, Fraudulent Scam Agency
- - Zoom Events and Paul Kennedy are accused of fraud, disorganization, and nonpayment (£170); bookings lacked timely venue details and responses.
Avoid Zoom Events/Market Square Group (Peterborough)!! (AKA Paul Kennedy) This is a despicable, fraudulent agency.
Paul Kennedy and Zoom Events not only lie and steal from musicians, they are disorganized, slanderous and just nasty people. This agency booked me and did not pay. Apparently they have a history of doing this, just check their Google Reviews: After contacting me through Facebook, Kay Commons (working for ZOOM Events) gave me two available dates through Whatsapp. I explicitly asked her immediately if the dates were confirmed, to which she replied "Perfect".
24 hours before the first date she still hadn't sent me the exact details of the venue (I knew it was in St. Neots). She finally did shortly before, I played, recorded videos of all songs, and had great feedback from the crowd. 3 weeks later she still hadn't paid me (£170 for a duo).
24 hours before the next event and she still hadn't sent me the exact venue details (again). I knew it was Central London. She then contacted me saying she had "Bad Feedback" from the first event and that the second gig "had not been confirmed" because she hadn't sent me the venue details. I had turned down another gig to play this one on a busy weekend, and had to pay my guitarist out of pocket.
After weeks of back and forth, she refused to pay anything, and continues to slander my reputation by saying we didn't do a good job at the first event. The issue was then transferred to Paul at ZOOM Events, who had apparently hired Kay Commons, since his marquee and ZOOM Events branding were in use at the venue. Paul looked at all documentation, refused to pay us, and again slandered our reputation. His official response was: "No formal booking was made for June 15th.
As per their standard procedure which I follow for all acts a booking is only considered confirmed once full event details (location, time, fee, etc.) are sent in writing. That step did not occur in this case." I have attached proof that Paul is blatantly lying, since full event details WERE shared before the event. Avoid Paul Kennedy and ZOOM Events at all costs!! Shame on them for taking advantage of musicians and hurting the entire industry!
I will be suing to claim the payment she owes for the second event booking.
Ive personally tried calling Zoom Events at the number on their website no less than 30 times, morning, noon and evening, over the course of an entire week. Not once has anyone answered the phone. In fact, for at least a week now, the phone rings 5 times, then says the Mailbox is full. I guess it should come as no surprise that they would fail to pay artists and lie about bad feedback when they dont even have a working phone number.
I dont even know who works there, besides Paul Kennedy. I have tried emailing, again with zero response. I have had a fellow musician (and pub manager) try to reach them as well, with no luck. God knows how they book any gigs or deal with artists/clients when no one can reach them.
According to their standard procedure, the text messages attached confirm both our bookings, since they clearly state the Date, Time, Location and Fee for each.
The only other document I ever received is also attached.
That document clearly cannot be seen as a booking confirmation, according to you, since there is no mention of the fee at all. So we played at a gig in St. Neots where we were not confirmed to play??? A GHOST GIG???
And regarding the fee, since no amount is mentioned in the 'St. Neots document', must be that we were expected to travel from London to St. Neots and back, bring our amps and instruments, play for two hours, in a duo, deal with horrible speakers feeding back all gig and do it all for less than £85 each, right? And then still get stiffed on the payment.
Kay Commons stated to me, on a recorded call, that, despite video evidence of a great performance, she still had to "negotiate with Zoom Events to get the full £170 payment for you" for the St. Neots festival. Where you probably charged the festival 1000s of pounds, and had a total of 5 artists play. I'm so grateful I can barely contain myself.
Even if, by some twisted stretch of the imagination, we were to assume that the 'St.
Neots document' attached was the only written record of our booking, who in their right mind would wait until 23 hours before a festival to confirm a booking that was first raised a month prior? How do you expect to have any artist turn up?
Even normal, Saturday night local pub gigs that are left till 2-3 days before to book are normally billed as 'long-shots' on Facebook music groups, since most professional musicians will be booked AT LEAST a week in advance. In all my years in the industry, this is the most amateur nonsense I have ever seen.
