Move from NY to SC.
08/23/22, informed by Sandra that I would be told if belongings were overweight. If so, max I'd pay for 2nd delivery was $500 fuel surcharge in tandem w/another delivery. Never received a phone call or email concerning any overweight charges so assumed one truck was sufficient. Heard nothing until delivery on 10/05 at which time I was told that all could not fit in the truck so 2nd truck would come in 1-2 weeks.
Spoke w/Sandra on 10/17 & told $500 surcharge which was in the way a written, "binding" contract. 2nd truck arrived 10/18. Given a BOL for $1123.52. Spoke w/Kate who said owner will not accept less than $1123.52, although I have a written, "binding" contract for $500.
If I don't pay that amount, they will not unload. Truck was shared, she said, w/another move to FL from NY. They were paying approx $1000 fuel surcharge for 1/2 the truck and an add'l approx $2000 from SC to FL. Asked why I was paying more to SC when I used 1/2 the truck.
Also, why $1658.37 fuel surcharge for the entire truck on 08/23 and $1123.52 for 1/2 truck shared. Owner would accept no less than $1123.52. Over charged me by $600, but offered $250 in compensation. Next step is the Attorney General's Office of NYS.
Examples of some of the damages to my belongings due to negligence: $3000 patio table has large, ground-in footprints as it was apparently used in place of a ladder.
Refinished antique furniture, which they wrapped, has scratches which weren't there. Antique corner bookshelf had ornate top broken off in pieces, and the pieces hidden in a large tote without our knowledge. Antique stained glass hanging lamp was actually bent and cracked around the edge - they also wrapped this item.
Broke off top my table saw (?) which cannot be fixed. Lost a mattress, although they brought the box spring.
