Price Gouging and Dishonest Business Practices - Resolution Required

It has come to my attention that this company has taken significant advantage of a Charity that supports and enables disadvantaged youth and girls. The organization provides an opportunity for girls to go to camp, learn grow and develop.

The charity survives on generous donations and very narrow margins to ensure the greatest number of girls have the opportunity to go to camp. The organization rented a van and due to an unexpected cancellation of a camp leader and insurance requirements related to ratios and class 4 drivers license needs, the van had to be cancelled. The organization offered to pay a cancellation fee. Yellow Car Rentals not only charged thousands of dollars for the van rental, they also charged for additional expenses such as mileage charges for a van that was never used.

When the organization challenged the rational of this practice, unprofessional exchanges and verbal attacks on the staff of this organization occurred. This is absolutely unacceptable practice and I am looking for the opportunity to speak with the owner of this business to find a constructive resolution.

The alternative is to pursue other more escalated actions as this is simply wrong and does not reflect well on the business nor its customers. My hope is that I will be able to submit a follow up review to this stating how the owner worked with me to find a positive resolution.

User's recommendation: Currently I would absolutely not recommend. However, I am pleased to consider revising this review if the operator provides an opportunity for resolution.

It's now September and, despite contacting Consumer Protection BC, we have heard nothing back from Yellow Car Rental, Manpreet Sidhu, Bhagat Singh Brar or his alias Bob Brar.

In hindsight, renting a vehicle from Yellow Car Rental and its owner Bhagat Singh Brar, someone who according to Global News and an article from July 8, 2020 has been put on Canada's no-fly list for the facilitation of terrorism by Public Safety Canada, CSIS, The RCMP and Transport Canada isn't something we'd do again.https://***/news/714****/secret-documents-csis-canadians-on-no-fly-list/

Bob Brar at Yellow Car Rental promised to remunerate our group for the out of pocket expenses incurred as a result of the dangerous 15 seater van Yellow Car Rental provided. Bob Brar and Yellow Car Rental have ignored all emails and messages since, despite Manpreet Sidhu's Whatsapp message saying that our group would be reimbursed within 2-3 days.

On the 30th of June, my group arrived in Vancouver with 13 children from England. We hired a 15-seater van from Yellow Car Rental.
Despite the work Yellow Car Rental puts into ensuring their search results appear on Page One of Google and despite writing blog posts about airport collection, Yellow Car Rental ignored our request to be collected at the airport.

Instead, we were obliged to make our own way to 12440 Vickers Way Richmond, BC V6V 1HP
On the 8th of July, the 15-seater van's axle came off in the middle of the Lion's Gate Bridge, leaving all 15 occupants - including 13 children - stranded in the middle of the bridge.
Having left several messages on the Yellow Car Rental answer phone, I received a Whatsapp message from someone in Ontario by the name of Manpreet Sidhu requesting that we contact a collision / towing company in Richmond.
Given that all our mobile phones are UK-registered and given that we were, at the time, stranded in the middle lane of The Lion's Gate Bridge, the solution was not one which was in any way helpful.
The feedback from the tow driver who collected the van from the Lion's Gate Bridge was, "vehicle very dangerous, loose wheel nuts caused movement in the driveshaft."
As a consequence of the van breaking down, Bob Brar promised to reimburse our party the value of the prepaid meals we missed, as well as Ubers and the van we were obliged to hire to take us to YVR / Vancouver International Airport for our flight back to the UK.
Suffice it to write that, despite the assurances and a Whatsapp message from Manpreet Sidhu on the 13th July in which she wrote, "hello sir i told BOB already he will reimbursed he is on vacation will be back tommorow , he was agree to the amount you mentioned so please allow 2-3 days for refund", we have heard nothing back from Yellow Car Rental or Bob Brar since.
While we would very much like to think that Bob Brar and Yellow Car Rental will honour their promise of remuneration, of greater concern is the host of 1* reviews for similar problems. Repeatedly hiring out dangerously unroadworthy vehicles is something that needs addressing.

I wouldn't wish anyone to go through the trauma and cost that our group suffered as a result of Yellow Car Rental.
The Vancouver Police report number for this is 111174. We will continue to work with law enforcement and pursue all legal avenues available to us to ensure other groups do not have to suffer this kind of experience from Yellow Car Rental.

Save yourself the nightmare - DO NOT do business with Yellow Car Rental

- Like others on this review page, Yellow Car Rental made a significant error in my bill. We had already paid $1,000 up front, yet at the end of our rental they still charged me the full amount as if I'd never paid $1,000.

- There was a burnt out tail light.

Called 10km into our trip and they said don't worry, it's nothing. Took it to a mechanic who said there was an electric issue, so we had to drive more than 100km out of our way to get a second van, which then didn't have a working seatbelt in the second row, so one of us rode without a seatbelt. Yellow Car's response was, "well nobody told us" as an excuse to not acknowledge our concern.

In the age of endless options customers have to choose from for services, Yellow Car Rental doesn't know how to play the game.

They are unprofessional, untactful managers of "business" from the way the way they speak to their customers to the way they address their customers' concerns. I felt robbed and taken advantage of.

Recently I hired 9 Passenger van from Yellow Car Rental in Vancouver. They made a significant error with my receipt and, despite they acknowledged the error, they never refunded the exceeding sum...I suspect that was just a priori planned...

No Standard

I rented the car(a VAN) and the vehicle was not in a good condition. .Got flat tire.

and had to replace the tire...when I called the rental company they told me that they would pay for my replacement charge(for the new tire)...when I returned the car...they told me they cant return my tire money(they could not keep the word).

Because of the flat tire , i lost one day of my travel plans , could not get into the booked hotel where we are supposed to stay.. I went to return the car at the opening hours(from my work place) and the operator came 30 minutes late.....the worse experience have in any rental company

Yellow Car Rental----Just Say Noooooooo!!!!!

went online to rent a van from Toronto airport and best deal was Yellow Car Rental--should have stopped at "yellow"--They say they are at the airport 24/7 they are not AT airport and close a 7 pm---they don't tell you you have to call to have them pick you up and even when you figure that out---40 min wait--and they say they are 24 hrs.--NOT--close at 7--it took extra hr. each way to do this---Terrible!!!!--No apologies and I had to call several times to get then to show up at airport and office ( in not yet open hotel in a little room on 2nd flr--each way caused 1 hr delay

I am not going to rent vehicle with this company anymore. Their customer service is horrible (you cannot ask them further questions upon booking) and their vehicle is filthy and some doors are stiff to open and close. I would advise future renters to check for reviews first before reservation or booking.


Agreed! This is an awful company and I would advise anybody to stay away.

They represent false advertising and are basically scammers

I have booked a Honda Pilot for tomorrow (good friday). They just sent me an email at 7:08pm to tell me that that the car was in accident.

They closed at 7pm and they don't even bother to call me earlier to tell the situation and provide me any option if they have alternative car that I can take.

Now I am scrambling to find an 8 seater van for tomorrow.

Lesson learned, if it is a very important situation don't ever trust a small time company to avoid any hassle.


Yes, JUST SAY NOOOO is right! I planned to rent a car for 2 weeks during Xmas but had to returned it after 5 days due to family emergency.

They charged my credit card for the FULL 2 WEEK rental anyways!! You have to pay for your the dates you pick whether you have the vehicle or not!!!!

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD...you WILL have unauthorized charges!! SLEAZEBALLS!!!!
