Clearcoat off of wheels are peeling off horrible looking

I just recently purchased a 2006 nissan 350z which I love tremendously but i have not even had the car a week and the clearcoat off the wheels is peeling away and they look really bad... I have gotten 3 estimates and they range from $400 dollars to $575 to fix them right and I could purchase a new set for that much, but I shouldn't have to because the car only has 9000 miles on it and the wheels make for a really bad eye sore... is there anything that can be done to help me out and not make my new car look so bad??? 1. To repair the clear coat; rub your wheels with lacquer thinner and fine scotch brite. 2. Wipe the residue with a clean soft rag dosed with lacquer thinner. 3. Wait fifteen minutes and respray with clear acrylic lacquer or clear urethane. Note: This process will work with both painted and unpainted wheels. Total cost invested; $30 to $40 dollars.

Hope this was of some help to you.
