Don't bring your loves here unless you want them dead. They literally kill your loved ones.

My dad was conscious and two days later he's dead. This hospital should be shut down immediately.

Interns are running the ER and ICU. They have no clue of what they're doing.

It is the worst unless you are on your death bed. I went there with an infection, and they did not ment that word to me they were more concern about taking care of the white patient.

I went there with an infection and the word was never mention nor looked into. I feel the same way as when I went there.

I was also sitting in a comfortable chair, and they ask me to move to another chair, so this young white lady could sit there. This was a black nurse or whatever position she held. But be sure if you are black you are wasting your time these days. I really don't know what has happen there.

This is my second time visiting there with an illness and was overlooked and guess what this is my last time. All I can say is GOOD LUCK to patients that are of color.

Went in for nephrectomy/kidney removal. Was told I’d be hospitalized 2-4 days. Pre-op nurses were fabulous! One couldn’t locate a vein and asked other to help rather than start poking me repeatedly. Kind, thoughtful, reassuring.

My husband says post op care was wonderful.

Then I was moved to a room on the the 3rd floor.

That morning I was told by Nurse Joanna, “You take a lot of pain meds.” (I had surgery LAST night until 7pm.)

Then “Kevin” removed catheter and asked about pain. “Besides wound site,” I responded, “up in right arm and chest area. Could it be gas?”

“No,” he said. Then he mumbled, “Hmm...” and something about the side I was laying on. I asked about pain meds. He said my nurse was on break. I asked if anyone else could help and was told no. Frustrated, I suggested they should change protocol. He told me to write a letter.

Immediately afterward Nurse Joanna, came in again. Asked about pain. Told her same thing to which she stated, “Could be gas pain.” I told her Kevin told me it couldn’t be. She backpedaled and said, “Well, if he said so...” (My surgeon later verified it was gas, yet no anti-gas meds offered.)

Shirley, another nurse or aid was told by Cristen, my nurse, I could eat. Someone else said liquids only. Haven’t eaten since Tuesday night. So I can’t eat or get up and walk or get pain meds. It’s Friday.

Cristen (spelled this way)my assigned nurse returns. She removed IV from arm. Left port and told me, “You can remove that if you want”, and walked out. I couldn’t hold tape down and loosen grip at same time. So now I’m upset, in discomfort, and helpless. I wanted to go home.

I couldn’t do anything without help. Shirley washed me. Patient and kind, while I cried about never being so completely and utterly dependent. “You just had surgery. We’re all women.” And she lessened my embarrassment. I am eternally grateful.

My husband comes in now. My daughter and parents have been in. I tell him I want to go home and he’s panicked. He tells Cristen, the nurse in charge of me. Both know I am in pain and can’t get out of or into bed alone. I can’t do anything!

“Yeah,” she says looking directly at me, “you can go home if you want. It’s up to you.” Felt dismissive and cold. Less than 24 hrs post op. I left. I needed round the clock care for several days. Thank God for my husband!

Maybe another staff or floor would be different. Avoid the 3rd floor!

My surgeon called, surprised I’d been released.

Oh! And 3 days later I got a call asking about my care. I am in pain and upset and mentioned a few things. The nice, sympathetic woman on the phone tells me how this isn’t what they want to hear and can she have someone else call me for details. I asked her to have them wait another day or 2 when I’m a bit better.

It’s over 2 weeks. No phone call.

I'm sorry to hear this. I know I wouldn't go NEAR-even avoiding driving by-South Nassau Comm.

Hospital-for so many reasons. I thought Withrop would be different but I suppose every hospital has big problems.

One needs an advocate while you're there but I have no family & am pretty much one. I'd be scared to death (literally) to enter any hospital.

Winthrop University Hospital - Emergency Service Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went to Winthrop University Hospital, emergency department a couple of times for an "ENEMA" procedure, this took me and my wife an incredible 13 hours the first time and 16 hours the second time. Nurses in the "emergency" take their sweet time, and purposely makes patients wait so they don't get new patients assigned to their station.

If beds are not available inside the ER, patients have to wait in the waiting area and sometimes outside in the hallway. After waiting 10 hours and going thru excruciating pain of suffering, my wife finally was given a bed in the ER. My wife didn't get a treatment until 1.5 hour later and not a drop of medication was given for the pain.

At this point, we are just not counting on returning to Winthrop. Also I am following with a complaint with the hospital and the health department at NYS.

This hospital placed my mother in a room with 3 male patients and said that it's not uncommon .. How do you think that it's okay to place a severe dementia female with 3 males ?

All for cost savings measures because she's a one to one .. This is very unexceptable

Rip Off Fee at Winthrop Hospitol Mineola, New York

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On October 3, 2015 my L5S1 herniated disk was causing a lot of pain so I went to the Emergency Room Services at Winthrop Hospital in Mineola. I waited for 5 hours and then they let me see an intern for about 5 minutes.

After we talked he sent me home with a pain pill and told me to see my regular doctor during the week.

A first bill came for $132.00 which I paid to the doctors services. Another bill came today from the hospital for $1437.00 for my 5 minute consultation with an intern. I pay $7800 a year to Oxford Liberty Plan which is part of United Health Care.

They would not pay this fee. And frankly I do think it is rather excessive being nothing was done to me during my visit. I have request the hospital to reexamine my bill and I am waiting for a response. We can cover lots of illegal people that come to our country for free and hard working American Citizens have to pay up the nose for 5 minutes consultation with an intern.

There is definitely big problems with our health system in America.

After several letters to the hospital they finally resolved the issue in good faith. I paid a total of $132 to the interns and $500 of the $1437 to the hospital.

The remainder of the bill was dropped in good faith.

I thanked the hospital for their understanding that the original bill was excessive for the service rendered.

Nothing resolved yet with Winthrop University Hospital. I requested a reduction in this $1437.00 fee from the hospital.

Five hour wait at hospital. Then five minute talk with an intern, no tests administered, and then I was sent home with one pain pill and told to see my regular doctor during the week. This is not worthy of $1437.00.

I did pay the intern fee of $132.00

Still waiting for Hospital to work a more reasonable fee for this Five minute service.
