The owner of Window Design Company wants us to pay for new doors after we have paid them over $32,000 in the last four years for new doors and a new deck. We have a new deck but are now stuck with damaged doors and the owner will not honor the contract that he wrote and signed.

Window Design Co installed two sets of French doors adjacent to our deck, in April of 2016. When we found that the doors were rotting at the bottom the first week of March 2020, I contacted WDC to come look at the doors. An employee of WDC looked at the doors and stated that this should not be happening on doors that were less than 4 years old. The owner of WDC came out, looked at the doors and told us that the reason the doors were rotting was that the deck needed to be replaced and that he would ONLY install new doors if we put on a new deck, costing $23,220.70. Since he is the expert, we believed him. A contract was signed on 5-8-2020 to remove our current deck, replace the deck, remove two sets of French Doors and replace two sets of French Doors. The deck was replaced with only minor disagreements at the end of May 2020. Two sets of French Doors were installed on July 23 and 24 2020. During installation, a set of blinds were damaged and noted by one of the installers. The installer said that he would tell the owner and have them replaced. Five days after the doors were installed, they were so swollen that the doors would not shut. WDC was notified immediately. The installers were sent to our property and again stated that this should not be happening. The doors had to be shaved and adjusted for them to shut. Three days after that, they were swollen again, causing damage on one of the doors to splinter, after trying to close it. The owner of WDC said that the doors were swollen because of faulty doors and that they were installed correctly. The owner of WDC requested representatives from the door company (Therma-Tru) to investigate the doors. When the representatives inspected the doors, they determined that the doors were not sealed properly, according to installation and warranty guidelines, on all 6 sides causing the doors to absorb moisture, leading to the swelling of the doors. Therma-Tru made a written report to that affect. WDC had the installers come out, take the doors out and seal them like they should have been before they were installed. The problem is, that they sealed doors that had already been damaged. Sealing did not undo the damage. We were informed by Therma-Tru, that because the doors had to be shaved in order for them to shut properly, and that they had already absorbed water, that the warranty was now null and void on the doors. The contract states that WDC will install new doors. WDC refuses to replace the damaged blinds and refuses to replace the damaged doors. According to the contract that was signed, all products installed by the seller. WDC, will be covered for products and labor for one year. WDC is refusing to stand by the contract. We are now stuck with doors that are damaged by water and blinds that are bent. We have pictures that shows the damage to the doors and that they were not sealed properly before installation. We are only interested in having doors that are not damaged. We feel that we were coerced into replacing the deck and told that our doors were rotting because of the deck. After spending over $23,000 we still have rotted doors. We do not trust the owner of WDC and do not want to work with him anymore. We would like to be reimbursed for the amount that it would cost to replace the two sets of French Doors We have contacted attorneys and because of the cost of legal fees, it is not feasible to litigate. The cost of litigation would exceed the cost of new doors.
User's recommendation: Never trust the owner of Window Design Company.
