AI Highlights
  • - Head bolts were never torqued and engine blew a head gasket.
  • - They took orders before going out of business, took money, and never sent engines.

Head bolts were never torqued down. Blew a head gasket, zero quality.

It never ran right from day one. Now I'm stuck rebuilding an engine instead of getting the paint job I saved up for!!!

A lawsuit needs to be filed against them, whether they're out of business or not. I've seen many similar reviews and apparently, they took orders knowing they were going out of business, received money, and never sent out engines; instead, they disappeared!!!

Loss:
$4500
Cons:
  • Useless engine

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: They are no longer in business due to crap engines

I bought a 383 from Brady. It never ran very well at all.

It lasted an hour and 30 Minutes. It threw a rod , piston and part of the camshaft through the side of the block. Out about $9000. I was able to save the heads and intake all else was trash.

The heads are cheap Chinese knock offs. Now I use a local machine shop and engine builder. Lesson Learned.

Dang that’s horrible to hear. Man that sucks - I got a motor from them ( it’s still in the box ) I’m trying to figure out exactly what is in the box /what parts come in-on the “California Cruiser”and I can’t find any information-this is crazy

I bought the Maverick 350. Less than 500 miles on it and it leaks oil, coolant and already broke an oil ring on the #1 cylinder.

Cylinder #1 has pitting that cannot be bored out because the cylinder is bored to the max at .060. Engine is complete garbage.

they wont call me back

Original review Feb 23, 2021

We purchased a engine from west coast engines in california and it turns out that they dont even build there engines, they come from a high volume production shop in spokane wa called S and J engines. the engine had cam failure and the clearances were never checked because the engine was so tight it burned up three of my starters trying to get it to fire.

the camshaft was a reground from delta cams and when I ask for help they gave me the run around and never really helped me. The day i ordered the engine I was taken back when Larry was talking negative about other companies to try and motivate me to buy from him. turns out I should have listen to my gut feeling and went with another company. After taking the engine apart I found out that the rings were never file fitted they had no clearance marks on them they were pulled out of the box and installed. this is probably why the engine was so tight.

In the end I had to have another shop fix the engine because they keep giving me the run around. After doing more research I found out that I could get the same engine for $3000 less from another builder.

BEWARE of west coast engines people. IF you want a engine that has been blue printed and clearanced stay away from this company for they do not even build there own engines.
