Verified ReviewerAdvisor slow-walked TOD payouts after account owner died, kept accounts open to pad his numbers
- - Wells Fargo Toco Hills in Decatur, GA oversees a TOD for beneficiaries.
- - She died in Oct; payouts began Thanksgiving; TOD stays open with residuals.
I have an elderly relative who lived in Decatur, Georgia, and invested a significant amount of her retirement savings with an investment advisor at the Toco Hills Branch of Wells Fargo. Her account was Transferable On Death (TOD) with several relatives named as beneficiaries.
She passed away early last October. The first payout did not occur until Thanksgiving. The last payout did not occur until Martin Luther King Day (January 2026.) Actually, the "last" payout has not occurred yet, because the account is still open! I am still getting statements with a residual amount showing in the account, which has yet to be closed out!
In addition, the account that was opened for me (against my wishes) to accomplish the "TOD" is also still open, again with a tiny residual amount. It has not been closed, despite multiple requests in writing. I have elevated the complaint and been given a reference number for a payout request on "my" account, but the original TOD account still hasn't been dealt with. They are clearly just keeping these accounts open and letting them languish with nominal amounts in them to pad their numbers.
Wells Fargo's horrible reputation for shafting consumers is well earned.
I am only sorry for my poor relative who put her trust in these crooks. STAY AWAY FROM WELLS FARGO FINANCIAL ADVISORS!!!
- Lack of response to customers
- Deliberately slow-walking payouts to pad their own portfolios
- Failure to pay out tod accounts
User's recommendation: Stay away from these crooks! SCHWAB is a million times better.
