Vietri Crema - Extremely disappointed

I spent nearly $2000 for a ten piece place setting of Vietri Lastra dinnerware. The first time I put a plate in the microwave oven to reheat a single serving of leftover for 1 minute the plate developed a small hairline crack.

At first I thought that it must have cracked at the factory or possibly during shipping to my home. I set it aside with the intention of contacting the Vietri distributor in North Carolina. Within the next few days I noticed the same hairline cracks in every single plate that I used. I was livid!

I took photos of the plates and sent the photo along with a letter to the U.S. distribution company. The company immediately replaced 6 plates! (The original plates been used only ONCE at that point.) I came to the conclusion that contrary to ietris claim that the dishes are microwave oven safe that they, in fact, are not!

I have been using cracked plates for the last 3.5 years now and feel as if I have been scammed. Finally, I want to mention that the dishes chip easily. Several of my serving pieces have chipped and several plates have chipped.

I am mentioning this so that Vietri is informed of this additional flaw in their product. Fortunately, I packed up my 25-year old Dansk dishes and will unpack them and get rid of the complete unsightly cracked and chipped Vietri dishes.

User's recommendation: Do not purchase. Beautiful design but the dinnerware cracks and chips easily.

I had the exact same issue. I contacted the company and they replaced some then they immediately cracked again.

I'm heartbroken and so angry. Not the quality I thought they would be.

Vietri dishes are terrible!

I purchased expensive Vietri Crema pottery. After just a year the dishes have ugly gray marks on them as a result of regular daily contact with silverware.

The marks will not come off and the dishes that we paid so much money for are now an embarassment. I have contacted Vietri and get no response from them.

I also contacted Plum Pudding from whom I bought most of the pottery. At first they seemed sympathetic, said they'd heard of the problem with the product, would check with Vietri and get back to me.

Hasn't happened. I'm at my wits' end.

I spent thousands of dollars on Vietri Crema. Not even 10 years later, I am packing them up and never plan to use them again.

They look terrible. I have tried all of the tips on cleaning the gray marks off of them. It does work, but it dulls the finish and the marks return shortly. I did call Vietri once.

They replaced a portion and offered to sell me the remainder at a discount. I would rather invest in something that lasts.

Hi here's how to fix it, find a powered cleaner called Zud. It is like comet but NOT the same.

Sprinkle it on the plates and use an abrasive scrubber and the marks will be gone. Sometimes you need to either let them sit with a "paste" or over night.

I do this annually and the dishes look great. Good luck.

My Dishes have done the same thing! I finally used (Bar Keepers Friend) which is a mild abbrasive, and all of the black marks came off!

I also love my dishes, but they are chipping terribly!

They also break and crack often. I feel badly, because my Husband Purchased a setting for 12 a few years ago, and I only have 8 dinner plates left!

I hope this is not too late for you. For years, I had dreamed of getting rid of my wedding dishes of 20 years.

I finally splurged and bought the Vietri Crema that I wanted so badly. I was more excited for these than my actual wedding dishes. However, that excitement was short-lived. Immediately, I began to see those gray scrapes on almost every dish...the bowls and mugs get it worse.

I was devastated. It got to the point that I wouldn't even allow anyone to eat from a plate if it required a knife. I was totally embarrassed. One day, as I was doing dishes, I began tinkering around with different concoctions to try and get them off.

I even went as far as using Comet powder. Nothing came close to removing the scrapes. Finally, I remembered Barkeepers Friend. I doused a plate liberally and got a rag.

I dampened the rag and used only the corner of it and began bearing down and rubbing. They all came off! Can you believe it? Now, I won't lie, it is time-consuming and so unfair, but once I do it, it feels so much better.

I usually wait until I can't stand the scrapes any more, and take the time to do them all at once.

I have only tried the powder, not the liquid that is new to the market. Good luck and I would love to hear your experience feedback.

I just retired and my gift to myself after working in poverty services for 42 years was a full set of Vietri Blanco dishes. You can imagine my dismay when I started to see grey scratches after the first week.

There are no children in our home...just my husband and me, so this is not the result of carelessness or abuse of the dishes. I used the same china (Blue Danube) since I got married in 1969 and didn't ever see a grey mark. But I really thought I deserved something special, so I researched many lines of dishes, loved the Vietri and saved a while to treat myself.

Now I'm sick with disappointment and it's even worse reading this review and noting the lack of response from the company. I'm not sure what to do next...stop eating food on the dishes????

I have the Vietri Bianca dishes and wish I would've never gotten them. They were gorgeous dishes but I really wish they'd have lasted longer than a year.

They have gray marks now and are ugly. I now have to buy brand new dishes.

I will never buy Vietri again. I contacted them and they never bothered responding.

I have two Vietri casserole dishes and both have cracks in them. I have taken VERY good care of my pieces and have used them very few times. The style is lovely and I spent a lot of money for these....and now afraid to use. What a waste....help!

What a shame.....I would not purchase again nor would I advise my friends to do so.

Maybe someone from Vietre can tell me why and what can be done....

I have the same problem and it basically started right away. Soup plates are especially vulnerable.

Tried scrubbing with Bon Ami, but does not help much; surface where spoon hits is full of grey scratches.

Very disappointing!! Have dinner, salad, and soup plates for 8 plus several serving pieces.

Hi everyone, my name is Jody and I manage Customer Service at VIETRI. I hate seeing anyone complain about our beautiful products or our service. First and foremost, if someone at VIETRI has not returned your message, I would like to talk with you personally. Please call me at 919-732-**** x. 119 so that I can assist you. I have worked at VIETRI almost 10 years and rarely hear these types of complaints, but I can shed some light on the flatware marks problem.

Flatware marks are actually very common in the marketplace, particularly with ceramics and stoneware, no matter what the cost. We do see this happen on our products, from time to time, especially on the white and cream plates. There are several reasons for this. 1 – Glazes not mixed well or properly, causing weak or thin glazes. This is not evident at the time of production. It’s not until later when the customer uses it for a period of time that they see these marks appear.

2 - Flatware marks may also occur from customers using acidic detergents and high heat settings on dishwashers. In general, dishwashers are awful for dishes. It deteriorates the surface and glazes over time.

We recommend products such as Bon Ami or Barkeepers Friend; non-abrasive cleaners, to remove the marks. It also helps to rotate your plates, so that you are not using the same one each time! Please also note, the thinner glaze will not affect the safety or usage of the products at all.

VIETRI has been in business for over 30 years, and fortunately, this problem occurs very infrequently to small batches of products. We hate that it happens at all, but when it comes to handmade products that aren’t stamped out by a machine, there is always that room for human error. We want our customers to reach out to us when they have issues and we are happy to work with them to find the best solution so that they can enjoy VIETRI products for many years.

Cari Saluti!

Best Regards
