Verde Scapes was hired to install a San Juan fiberglass pool, including surrounding coping and concrete area around the pool. When we hired this pool contractor, we depended on them to have the knowledge and expertise to properly install the pool and relied on them to make any and all decisions regarding the installation. Verde Scapes was paid over $24000 for their work. They now refuse to accept responsibility for the separation problems due to not properly preparing the concrete foundation. There are gaps as much as one half inch wide between the coping and the concrete. The pool appears to have sunk and the concrete has shifted and risen above the pool coping. This problem began to occur less than one year from the date they installed the pool. According to Verde Scapes, they feel the separation is due to the soil type and weather. These things should have been considered to properly prepare and install the foundation for the concrete. We live in Louisiana which is known for extreme weather patterns and clay soil. After discussing my problem with other contractors, I was told that Verde Scapes should have tested the soil to determine the necessary steps to take when laying the foundation for the concrete. Verde Scapes did not test our soil and only installed footings along the back side of the pool where they used fill dirt. That side of the pool has not separated. Had footings been formed around the entire perimeter of the pool, this would have provided more stability to the structure and problems with separation would not have happened. Soil type was never considered or tested in planning the foundation which led to an improper support system for the concrete and ultimately to the separation problems. Verde Scapes only response on this issue has been that they do not warranty separation of concrete. The only warranty that was ever mentioned by Verde Scapes was from the pool manufacturer and was presented to us as a selling point in selecting the San Juan pool brand. They never provided us with a copy of their warranty and/or a contract or even mentioned this to us. Regardless, this issue is not a warranty issue; this is about proper installation. These problems would not have occurred had the concrete and coping been installed correctly. We tried numerous times to contact Verde Scapes to discuss the problems and attempt to come to a resolution. Our calls were not returned for weeks at a time. Once we did make contact, the company would agree to inspect the damage and then not show up. After several missed appointments, once they did show up, they only completed part of the agreed upon repairs and promised to return to complete the job. Thirty days later after trying to reach them again, all I received was a text stating that I needed to get someone else. Verde Scapes did not even have the decency to call us, but rather sent a text message. This entire ordeal has been very frustrating and upsetting and I feel that anyone considering to contract with this business should be made aware of my experience.
