Vaden Nissan, Savannah: Very unpleasant purchase experience
I would just like to start out by saying that I am normally not one to complain, however, I do feel that considering your television ads touting the “Vaden Way,” you would want to know about the unpleasant and upsetting experience I have had with your company, specifically, the Vaden Nissan, Savannah dealership. I left the USMC in mid-September, 2017, and came back home to Hardeeville, SC, to begin my civilian life.
I was in need of a car, my first car, so I could start a new job the next day, but even with the financial assistance from my parents, had a limited budget. I contacted Vaden Nissan, Savannah, after seeing 5 or 6 available late model Versas with low gas mileage and within my price range. They assured me the vehicles were available and at the dealership. When I got there the next morning (a 30-mile drive from home), I was told they all went to auction and were gone, but they had other vehicles to show me.
I made it very clear to George, my sales person, that I had a limit of $9,000, which had to include taxes and tags. I spent the next several hours being shown vehicles that were conveniently outside my price range by a few thousand dollars. Every time I made an offer, George took it to the sales manager then came back with a counter offer that was still above my limit. I could see the sales manager laughing in his office as he gave the quotes back to the sales person.
This was clearly a ‘bait-and-switch’ situation. After spending most of the day there, as a last resort, I saw a 2014 Chevy Cruize with more than 70,000 miles on it that had just come in. Once again, the price was more than $10,000 (seems to be the magic number). I checked the blue-book value, which was just over $8,000 and when I mentioned it, I was told that the blue-book value was the ‘trade-in’ amount and they could not do any better on the price.
Although I felt like I was over-paying for the car, I had now wasted the entire day, so I borrowed the rest of the money from my parents and reluctantly purchased the vehicle. I was assured the car would be in perfect working order as well as the interior detailed and I would receive the car with a full tank of gas. When I picked up the car 3 days later, the car was clean, but the tank was not full as promised and I was told their gas pump was broken. Really?
During the last 3 months, I have had several issues with the car, the latest being a dead battery that I was told was new when I got the car. I have brought the car in to the Vaden Chevrolet service department in Savannah, and they have tried to make things right. I have no quarrel with them.
I am most upset at the Nissan sales department and feel that I was sold a vehicle that was not up to par for a price that was not fair. Shame on me for allowing it, but shame on you for taking advantage of my situation.
- Service department tried to help
- Condescending attitude
- That they overtly overpriced the car

Dealership incompetence and misrepresentation
Not told what I needed for financing. Lied to me. Does not even know about model of car. Very, very incompetent dealership.
I informed this dealership of my particular situation and that I was in Chapter 13. I asked if that would be a problem and salesperson said "absolutely not". I explained to salesperson that it may take up to a couple of weeks to get approval from bankruptcy court. It is in process and my attorney said I should have no problem (I am almost at the end of the bankruptcy). Dealership took my trade in and gave me the car. Now they want it back and I have not had enough time to hear from court.
I will be without transportation and it seems they cannot locate my trade in. This is totally unacceptable. I am receiving chemo treatments and I need vehicle to commute to work. I guess my only recourse will be to get an attorney .

The female treatment
If I had known that this website was here, I would have made good use of it sooner. In 2003, while I was deployed to Iraq, Dan Vaden Nissan in Savannah gave my wife the runaround about warranty work on an engine that blew in a one year old Nissan Altima.
Initially, this was a great car. Comfortable, good gas mileage. But, because the car was bought from another dealer on the other side of the country and being that she didn't have a man with her. Dan Vaden Nissan refused to cover the engine under warranty until I got some lawyers involved.
Mind you, I was in Irag on my to Baghdad fighting in a war and having to manage this, too. Thanks Dan Vaden. I will never forget because that's how we roll in the Army. I live in the Savannah Area but I will never buy a car from them or take one there to be serviced.
I would rather drive to Texas and buy a truck from a dealer there than to go down the street and served by them.
By the way, Nissan Corporate was no help either until the letters from the lawyer showed up. Both of those companies suck.
- General attitude
- Customer service
Preferred solution: Just to let people know how much they suck. It's too late for anything else.
