Verified ReviewerIn accurate loan recording
- - Son disabled after flu.
- - Paid DeVry; loan reported owed.
- - Bankruptcy discharged in 2019; loan misdocumented; credit hurt; MOHELA.
My son slipped in a coma and was paralyzed from complication with the flu. He went to DeVry University and I paid them with proof of the canceled checks.
The school that was sued kept our settlement agreement portion and reported the loan as owed. I couldn't keep calling them or writing letters with no end. I filed for bankruptcy in 2019 and went before the judge because of our circumstances it was discharged. Devry University, Nelnet, and U.S.
Department of Education was notified by the court and myself several ways and time to include credit disputes, certified letters, CFPB complaints, uploaded documents and hiring credit correction agencies. Come to find out they didn't correctly document one of the loans.
It has cost me thousands and thousands, my credit scores have suffered regardless of other on time payments for credit cards and loans. They transferred to Mohela after the bankruptcy and permanent disability discharge.
- Ruining my life
Preferred solution: For them to correct their records and contact their servicer. The loans wasn't closed or transferred it was discharged in 2019.
User's recommendation: Don't trust the government

Verified ReviewerCall for information
- - Letter claims I owe Nelnet; I never heard of this loan or late notice.
- - I want details on when loans were taken and by whom.
Tried to call for information regarding a letter I received in the mail stating i owed money to nelnet. I have never heard of this and i have been out of school for 4 years.
I would like to know where this came from and why I received such a late notice when the due date was 2 days later. Once again, never knew this loan even existed.
My schooling was paid for by Kentucky Department of Athletics. I would very much like a detailed response of when these loans were taken out and by whom.
Student loan forgiveness can't speak to a living person.
Trying to get the forms to have my loans forgiven.
No one actually answers the phone.
Also when on hold the automated system hangs up on me.
Student loan forgiveness
Just send me the forms to fill out for loan forgiveness because of a predatory school. I went to ITT Tech and was lied to.
My diploma isn't worth the paper it's written on.
Student Loan forgiveness.
- - Two forgiveness paths: economic hardship or disability; forgiveness received via Nelnet around 3-4 years ago (Student Loan Offset).
No complaint - advice!
There are two ways I know of to receive forgiveness, economic hardship or disability; I qualified under both and 3-4 years ago I received forgiveness through NELNET. It's called Student Loan Offset.
User's recommendation: Go for it; don't give up!

my colleague required form name some time ago and saw a company with a lot of fillable forms . If others are requiring 2010 ED Discharge Application: Total & Permanent Disability as well , here's a discharge disability
I pray that you have fund discharge /reslution. I,t ,have been treated unprofessioally,if not actually their abuse of power as I had money taken out without telling or asking me,after I had this resolved and discharged in 2009.
suddenly, with no warning,my ss checs began being reduced this past april..only the dept of treasury can approve this, yet on asing them why, they had no record f me,and s I wrote to every agency possible.
finally finding th e 53 minute hold from ss,they said they were alerted in July of that this would be fortcming.HOw so? Julywas when I sent, wrote, faxed, emailed every agency involved t n avail.
It seeems the dept of education began taing monies out in april and only ONLY told of it in july, when I wrote.
even though a call they finally answered, toldme it would be resolved on October 10,and yet still nothig has happened in regard to giving me the money bacand not taking any more ut.
every person I talked to could find no record of my 'default' why? it has been resolved, yet the dept f education still takes money from me,a below the poverty level, elderly disabled person.
However I am still "invite' to tae ut another student loan while they are offsetting this one, which has already been discharged1
there is a group callled recvery and recapture, where 'those in the now' can capture this mney for the fed govt/dept of education..this grooup actually seaches out defaulted loans and gets the money that is not owed to dept of ed,for example, the interest, often much more than the loan, inmy case, loan was 4500,I supposedly "owe" $40,0001 with 'interst"..these peple, usally educators, principals or schl superintendents,no one you have anything to do with, but they have access to all these records, and they earn a god retirement calling these debts in.
all the dept f ed wants is th eorignal loan, but min is all taen care f and even the cmpany I borrowed it from sent me a letter stating so.
these 'recover and recapture people" als do this to mortgages, jsumping right in when they see any red letter pop out at them, and stat foreclosing procedures, again, the govt only wnats what owed not,th einterest.
this should be done away,bc their is n oversight on these peple and as in my case, they are doing it to a poor, old and idsabled person.twice.
the govt peple barely have 2 minutes to tal,l somehtig up,give a 2 word answr and thats that with your life.
this is stealing,to tae money withut permissio, withut notification, and t d i twice bc I had to go thru all this in 2009 when i finally got discharged.
so the above write is nt th eonly one and I am sure i am not either..it is abut time, some of these depts are scrutinized as they are either by accident or design, stealing from the poorand tose who cannot speak or pay for lawyers and legal aid dismisses this as in ntin their purview.
keep whatever faith you have left,in yourself and in God,not the dept of education or its recapure and recovery group.
