Bad work, made my wife cry
We had Upright Fence install a fence and patio. There were some issues with the fence (split boards, etc.) and we withheld 10% of their payment (we'd already paid them nearly $3,500) until they could fix the issues. The owner called my pregnant wife and yelled at her until she cried demanding the money before he would even deal with us. This was not at all the customer service we were promised during his sales pitch and was just completely unprofessional. Once the dust settled and he fixed the split boards and other issues we had, we paid up and were ultimately satisfied with the work. It was not nearly worth the headache, however, and we're going with someone else for the next phase of our project.

Irish, the homeowner was right to withhold 10%. Standard practice that I write into all of my contracts with owners that way they know I will do the job to their satisfaction.
Your immature comments only make the original posts case stronger. To the homeowner that wrote the original post, don't be ashamed or afraid to tell everyone your experience and check references and get everything in writing.

Well if your wife paid up front they would not demand the money and therefore she would not be crying like some three year old whose ice cream fell off the cone. When you go to someone else for your next phase, be a man tell them your wife is a crybaby and be easy on her or deal with you.
