  • - Bought a Chevy Nova for $24,000; couldn't inspect in person.
  • - Missing wipers/horn; wiring cut; $2,700 harness; welded axle; two bad cylinders.

purchased a 1970 Chevy nova and from the photos it looked pristine and form 24000 dollars it should have been. it was the first time buying a classic car and was looking forward to it.

i lived in New York and was unable to personally look at it but because i financed it the bank sent someone there to validate that it was worth the asking price and so was able to get the loan. i purchased it in November and so when i got the car it was time to put it in storage due to winter and i didn't want the car to rust. when it arrived i noticed that there was no windshield wiper motor or wipers and no horn , this means a automatic failure in New York, so no biggie this spring i take it to a shop that works only on classic cars to have it done but only to find out that the wiring harness was cut at the fuse block and required a new harness which was 2700.00 they then said the motor had 2 bad cylinders .

on top of that when they went to install the e brake cables they discovered that the rear axle was all welded together therefore a new rear axle had to be installed, I'm very upset and feel this was a coverup by them. it is a hard lesson to learn but i will never buy another vehicle from them

AI Highlights
  • - Inflated expectations from an overpriced used car dealer.
  • - All risk is on the buyer; full payment before shipping expected.

Recent new business. Inflated expectations for an over priced used car dealer.

Ebay user account "983oldshurst" has scant vehicle sales and recent Negative feedback regarding Rust, at $10,000. Ditto Impala rust on this site. 4 BBB complaints, 2 unresolved. Jeff or owner Jeremy Thomas are not always responsive.

Low-balls my pretigeous classic trade. Expected full payment and my vehicle delivered to them in advance, before shipping his. Bottom line: All risk is on the Buyer.

Do you want one car so bad you would deal with mental aggravation, or a law suit to get what is right and fair to you?

Pros:
  • Unique inventory
Cons:
  • Business practices

Unique Specialty & Classic Cars of Mankato, MN

AI Highlights
  • - Drove 200 miles to view a Thunderbird; brakes weak, engine miss, body damage.
  • - Offer of $9,000 accepted; deposit refused; BBB administratively resolved.

On August 8, 2012, I drove 200 miles to Mankato, to look at a 1964 Ford Thunderbird that Unique had on their website. I drove the car a short distance because the brakes barely worked. The car also had an engine miss and some body damage on the driver's door. I offered $9000 for the car with the brakes to be repaired along with the engine miss and body damage. They did not take the offer at that time. The next day the dealer called and said they were going to take the car to a charity auction, but before they did they wanted to offer me a chance. I said I had made my offer and was not going to change, he said he would talk with the owner again. He called back and accepted my offer of $9000 and asked for a deposit at that time.

I received a call 10 days later, the car is ready. I drove 200 miles, back up to Mankato and took along another individual to drive one of the cars back. I said I wanted to drive the car before I accept it. The body work had been done, but the car drove just as before, an engine miss and poor brakes. I called the dealership 2 days later and said I wanted my deposit back, I was not being treated right. They refused. I called again in a week the parts were ordered. I called a week later and the wrong parts were sent, I again asked for my money back. They refused. After 2 months, the dealer called and said the car was ready. I said I was not going to accept the car and I want my deposit back. They refused.

I turned in a Better Business Complaint. The end result of the complaint, the BBB said they knew I was unhappy but that they were listing this a administratively resolved and the cas was closed.
