Verified ReviewerSubstandard workmanship with poor customer service
While the UNIDEN R3 may be a good radar detector, for me, quality is the worst. Let me lead with the fact that I have been in a customer support role with my aerospace employer for many years on both the government and commercial side of the enterprise.
Our equipment is not cheap, but it lasts a very long time. Warranties are long and customer support is top notch. My story with UNIDEN is neither. I bought a UNIDEN R3 from Best Buy on 25 SEP 2021 and had to send it in for repair around 25 APR 2022.
The corrective action was to replace the GPS board. Fast forward to mid-September 2022 and the GPS feature had failed again. I received an email with a FedEx label but was not able to send it in for repair immediately so UNIDEN did not receive the radar detector until October which was past the one year original warranty term and the 90 day repair warranty. When a customer calls about a repair the person on the other end can't help and only lets the repair center know about the call.
Then the repair center might respond 48-72 hours later. That's weak. Anyway, after two or so months I call and the agent takes my information and I wait some more. Nothing.
Now it's the holidays and I know people are busy. I call again after the new year and finally receive an email on Jan 10 stating I owe UNIDEN $87 for the repair. I was floored! Why do I owe for something that apparently wasn't repaired right the first time?
Why do I owe when the unit was purchased less than a year before? My theory is that UNIDEN is using substandard parts or the repair technicians are not trained well. UNIDEN proceeded to send me three emails stating I owed the money so I finally called and talked to agent. I told her that I shouldn't have to pay anything, but I'd consider paying half because of the shipping fees and I wanted my radar detector back.
She stated that the repair center would reach out to me in 48-72 hours. After ten or so days I called again and was passed off to a supervisor named Alyssa. She wouldn't tell me her last name. Well Alyssa and I guess UNIDEN are not customer service oriented and stated that I would not get my radar detector back unless I paid the $87.
Based on my experience and background I find that unacceptable. For a company founded in Japan where quality is important I'm disappointed.
I will NOT be buying anything UNIDEN in the future and look forward to going back to Escort. The only problem I have with my 8 year old Escort Passport MAX is a dim LCD screen and false alerts to vehicles with blind spot monitoring.
Preferred solution: I would like my radar detector returned without providing payment for the repair.

Recently received a Home Patrol 2 as a gift. Tried to download Sentinel software from the link provided in the owners manual.
Got a 404 error - thanks Uniden for a useless link. I did screw up after installing Sentinal by connectining the HomePatrol to my PC. Got Sentinel 2.03.05 installed and then based on prompts proceeded to update the FIRMWARE. NEVER NEVER EVER do this if you have the Home Patrol programmed by BearCatWarehouse for your local area.
It wipes out the local programming on your SD card with NO warning this will happen. Soooo pissed I uninstalled Sentinel 2.03.05 from my pc. Next day spoke to Bear Cat Warehouse customer support and they were gracious to provide a reinstall of the data base I had already paid for if I paid for it again. LOL - Thanks for nothing BearCatWatehouse.
They also directed me to go to their Home Patrol page to get to the Sentinel software upload page. Guess what - it takes you to an outdated 2.03.02 database page at Uniden.
I dont know how to get the latest Sentinel update- seems like Uniden doesnt update any support after they sell the product.. Uniden customer support is via email only (with an up to 48hr response) and NO live phone support.
Based on my experience I DO NOT recommend anyone buy a Uniden product or from BearCatWarehouse.NOT BUTul uusefDDo

I received my DFR1 radar detector as a gift. This was in November 2020.
My cigarette lighter power adapter just came apart on a recent trip. I was frustrated and couldn't find all the pieces. I just reached out to their customer service to see what could be done while it is under their 1 year warranty period. The first representative I spoke with told me I needed to give them an order number, I told them I don't have one it was a gift.
I was told they could not assist me further without this information. I asked for the adapter number do that I could find it elsewhere as the gentlemen told me it was also not in stock. I then received the order number from my girlfriend (mind you this was a gift) which was purchased on Amazon and then showed me how much was spent, not ideal. But I digress.
So I call back and get connected to a different representative.
This gentlemen told me that the item is not in stock and looked as though would not be in stock as the model is older. So I asked if they could give me a credit or what else my options are. They said I could send the unit back but there is no guarantee that they could try to repair it but no guarantee it would be. I then asked nothing can be done with a credit and he said no sir we do not do that.
This was by far one of the worst experiences ever with a customer service team and multiple people that just don't care if you have issues they already made their $$. I have ordered a universal 12V DC cigarette lighter power cord and hope that the $10 will fix my worthless detector.
Preferred solution: A replacement adapter or credit for needing to purchase a new one.

i ordered a very expensive radio from uniden. upon receipt the power cord was bad.
i contacted customer service and had to make multiple attempts before someone responded telling me no power cords were available but they would find one laying around somewhere. 2 days later i was asked to send a copy of my receipt so the cord could be sent to me under warranty. i immediately provided the receipt and was told the cord was to be shipped next day and id receive an email confirmation. that was almost 2 weeks ago.
ive emailed 3 times and no response whatsoever. i contacted the shipper who immediately took care of the problemd and sent a new cord. ive still never heard from uniden again.
i like the radio but the customer service is beyond poor, and i will not make another purchase from uniden. after taking your payment they simply do not care.d
