Unbound Solar - Broken promises, wrong parts, infusicent parts to install properly and...

I purchased two solar systems online. The price was $4,995 each, plus the package that insured everything needed to get a permit and guaranteed you would get a permit for about $1,200.

Before I made the purchase I called to make sure I understood the package included everything, and I was assured it did by the representative, Haleigh Tuiolemotu. I said I live in Hawaii and she assured me that Unbound Solar had experience in Hawaii, and would provide everything needed to get my solar permit.

Once I made the purchase I received a call from David Regal to discuss the purchase. I told him what I had purchased and he said, We dont go by the website, and put a package together based on what I had actually ordered. The price then went from about $11,200, the online price, to $13,627.74.

Thats about $2,400 more than what I ordered. He explained that in spite of what I was told there were more items I needed to order, but assured me this would be everything I needed. So I went along with it.

The order complete, I am working with David to assist on the solar plans. I draw the plans and David said, You cant install the solar panels sideways.

I questioned that but he assured me that these were the better panels he was giving me deal and they only had a few left so I need to redraw the plans with the panels vertical to get the better panels. So I did. Well, I found out you can install these panels sideways and the reason he gave me false information was Unbound would have to supply more mounting hardware if mounting the panels sideways.

Then I get an email from David saying he made a mistake and the new price is $13,659.58.

Then I get an email from David saying he needs to collect another $301.10 for SnapNRack metal roof attachments

But I already bought all the hardware. What am I going to do?

They already have my $13K plus money. So I pay it.

Then Im told by David Regal, engineering isnt included Electrical will be $450 and structural is $338 extra. I reminded him of what I was told by Haleigh and himself that I would get all I needed. David said, yes, but some places (counties) dont require engineering.

I said, but Hawaii does and you knew this was for Hawaii. So there was more expense.

Recap; two $4,995 (about $11,200 with extra package) complete solar grid tie systems is now costing me $14,241.

When I received my system there were missing and incorrect parts. I was told that I would be credited for the wrong part and sent the correct one. I never received the missing part and was not credited for the incorrect one.

With much communication and unfulfilled promises, numerous emails, I get nowhere. David Regal stopped returning my calls and emails a long time ago. Wil Burlin and Jeffrey Jankiewicz did answer my emails and tried to help, they said they would forward my request to the right department. But replies to my requests were never answered.

Haleigh Tuiolemotu was still trying to help.

The last issue was mounting brackets. On the back of the inverter there are slots for hanging on a bracket. Online it shows the mounting brackets, so I request the brackets. Haleigh contacted tech support and they responded to her with the answer the next day, which she passed on to me.

Thanks Haleigh.

The answer was an alternate mounting method that should work.

All in all it has been a frustrating, expensive experience and knowing what I know now I should have never trusted David Regal and demanded what I actually purchased. I will not use Unbound Solar again on my next upcoming project.
