I have lived in Troy (Pike County), Alabama for two years now after escaping the city life in Miami, Florida. This is a small town that centers around Troy University and the company of Wiley Sanders.
I know crime is everywhere but I can't believe how nonchalant the cops in this town are, especially about drugs. I am sick of the drug dealers and the users being able to just go about their destructive lives without any problems. Every weekend, the local Days Inn and other hotels are filled with drug dealers and their 'friends'. The auto service shops are full of guys known for their use of crack, acid, pot, and *** What do the cops in this town actually do?
The only time I see them doing anything is when they are escorting a football team through town. Otherwise, our houses are burglarized, our businesses are robbed, people are getting shot over drug deals, and addicts roam the town with no driver's licenses, bad checks, stolen goods, and arrogant attitudes. I just wanted to live someplace where I could take a walk down the street without being asked if I was 'straight'. I'm sick of it and sick of cops not being around to clean up some of this mess.
It makes me think the government in Troy, and Pike county, is corrupt and allowing the dealers to do whatever they want to.
Word of warning: Be careful about sending your kids to college in this town.

The cops let inmates at the pike jail smoke *** in their cells and bathrooms and are very unprofessional with how things are handled. That place is a joke and so are the incredibly uneducated "cops" that work there. Definitely not an area to send your kids to college.
Don't forget the "illegal aliens" who roam the area as if they have more rights than anyone else. They work the chicken plants and farms so the corrupt politicians instruct teh corrupt others to ignore them.
How many DUI's and wrecks happen involving one of them? They can't collect because they just buy a new i.d.
