Continental IO 520 Engine Failure at 98 and 565 hours of from Triad Engines in Burlington, NC
- - IO-520-L engine; 98h: broken push-rod housing; 565h: cracked case, bent rods, hollow rod, burnt valves, crank below minimums, 3 cyl blow-by.
I bought an IO 520 L light case continental engine from Triad Engines in Burlington, NC, for my C-210. After 98 hours, I had a broken push rod housing from a bent push rod.
Then at 565 hours, I had a cracked case, with 3 more bent push rods, one being worn out to hollow, burnt up valves that had to be hammered out and replaced with new valves and sleeves, a bad welded oil pump, a cracked oil cooler, a bad crankshaft that didn't meet minimums, and 3 cylinders with blow by.
I have 8000 hours of flying and they said it was the way I flew that caused all the damage. Read this before you buy.
Preferred solution: Full refund
