People can steal at the register

Original review updated Aug 01, 2025

I'm writing on behalf of a friend against Trader Joes (not Trader Lion-the site changed the store name).. She is a disabled veteran who needs to use a walker to get around because of a leg brace for a fracture that's not healing well.

Aside from the fact that other customers expected her to yield to them in the aisles, they also blocked her ability to get by so she could expedite her trip to get home to get off the injured leg. When she got to the register, she had to use 2 $50 bills to cover her groceries because the bank didn't give her smaller bills to cover the $59 charge. She keeps her money in a tan fabric zipper money pouch so her ID cards can remain separate. As she was trying to get the groceries onto her walker to take out to the car, she was unaware that she had dropped her money pouch, or it had slipped out of her purse.

So this pouch was either sitting by the credit card reader on the counter or it was on the floor by the 1st register near the exit door. Naturally, she panicked when she noticed her zipper pouch missing. Of course, the cashier tells her to go check at the desk in the back. She goes there dragging her painful leg only to discover no one turned her money pouch in.

This brazen piece of crap who took her money pouch stole it by the register INSIDE the store. She is a disabled veteran. Every penny is a big deal, but this loss was over $50; she had a lot of quarters in the pouch for laundry as well ias other change (the pouch has 3 zippered compartments). I can't believe that this lowlife didn't have the decency to return the money pouch with the money.

How low to steal from a veteran, but low just to steal in general during these hard times. Worst yet is that Trader Joe's did nothing but tell her that usually their customers are honest. Well, that mold was broken today. Too bad Trader Joe's couldn't have been kinder to this woman to check the surveillance cameras, especially since it's rare for someone to pay with 2 $50 bills when credit cards are more common.

Funny how a lot of these retailers can catch a shoplifter, but they can't catch a *** stealing someone's wallet. Sadly, 2 cashiers saw this veteran took money out of the tan pouch and put the change back in.

Seems like they could have recognized the pouch when someone else picked it up to steal it. She's not going back to Trader Joe's, but neither will I.

Loss:
$55
Cons:
  • Trader joes not trader lion
  • Site changed name

Preferred solution: Have Trader Joes check their surveillance cameras so they can see who is stealing in their stores and hurting our Veterans

User's recommendation: Caution thieves troll here

Your complaint will go to Trader Lion or wherever you sent it and Trader Joe will never see this. This is your error, as 257 people before you had no trouble sending their complaint and reviews.

You wasted your time even writing this, since you couldn't send it to the right place.

My questions to you: why is someone on such a tight budget shopping at one of the most expensive grocery stores and why isn't someone helping this disabled person shop? It sounds like she is not capable of managing it alone!

So easy for you to find fault in others. Be thankful you're not elderly and .

disabled like we are. The site changed the name of the company 4 times even though it was edited that many times; this has happened before where the site also mismatches addresses with the company. It's been reported. Understand that smaller stores are easier to manage for disabled folks than the longer aisles in the bigger grocery stores.

Also even though the larger stores have scooters have you noticed that they are never available for the people who really need them? Check out Walmart where your "larger" customers take the scooters and let their kids climb on like it's a carnival ride. When we get to the scooters, if they're available, they don't run because they're out of charge since no one plugged them back in. I can't tell you how many times we've had problems with deliveries because they're left at the wrong door or the shopper doesn't know the difference between spinach and kale.

Second did you consider that maybe she went for the some of the produce which is more affordable here?

She didn't go in for steak but that shouldn't be your concern anyway. Just like the thief, there is no shortage of crass when people have to put down others when they don't know the circumstances.

Maybe you should be a better friend and either shop for her or accompany her while she is shopping. You seem to have little concern and empathy that she has to drive, walk the store and shop, load her car and unload it at home. You should feel humiliated calling yourself her friend and writing this.

You should mind your own business, and your friend should be in a nursing home. Just being honest.

Maybe you forgot the purpose of the site, to inform other consumers. We have been to other establishments where staff have been more helpful in trying to track down a list or stolen item.

Sadly, many of you don't realize how difficult it is being disabled when home services are poor from deliveries to transportation. Our area has non medical transport that refuses to take people in wheelchairs (which she can maneuver better) but she was forced to take a walker instead. Remember your worst, they may boomerang back onto you.

You will age too. Good luck
