Construction Plum Creek heavy dust - how is this allowed? 3-7-2020

Town of Castle Rock - Construction Plum Creek heavy dust - how is this allowed? 3-7-2020

posted 3-7-2020 @ https://nextdoor.com/post/13960****?init_source=copy_link_share

Constructions workers are working on Plum Creek and are dry scraping their work area next to the road - dust and particulates so heavy that people are honking. Workers not even wearing face masks.

This picture does not do it justice, video is better but can't upload. This is high-density neighborhood. People don't need to breathe this, in other places these things require wetting first.

BTW, every time I drive by Martin Marietta plant dust is everywhere on the road too, the other day they were dry sweeping with a street sweeper. Children live and play in the apartments across from that facility.

They should not be forced to breathe in dust and fine particulates.

No one should.

If the town allows this during construction, how much faith should I have in their regulatory abilities once the proposed 24-7 gas station, convenience store car wash with its noise, air pollution and public safety issues when they arise? https://nextdoor.com/post/13965****?init_source=copy_link_share

Preferred solution: Have Castle Rock require wetting for high dust generation construction and other operations

User's recommendation: Town should require operations producing heavy dust engage in wetting.

To date it would look as the town does not care about the citizens and their concerns, especially when it comes to things like snow removal. the city seems too busy on pet projects to even care about the tax payers who happen to live here.

Original review Apr 04, 2019

On March 13, 2019, we had blizzard like conditions here in town but unlike the blizzard and snow storms in the past (dating back to 1977) a lot of the lower income type housing additions were left in shambles. In 22 years of pushing snow/snow removal for couple of small mountain town in even worse conditions I had never left the tax payers streets and roads in the conditions that was left in this town with that snow storm.

I had pushed through snow drifts up to 5 foot tall and yet had never left anyone to shovel out 12 feet from the curb into the street with snow and ice piled up close to 2 1/2 feet tall drifts. I had pushed up to 36 hours straight while the city works started near evening and was home by around 10am the next day.

To top all this off was calling the city to get someone would to clean the street better all one got was recordings and had to leave voice messages. All the while the homes which prices start around $650,000 to over one million had the best cleaning of snow removal in the town. When I complained about the lack of services I was attacked by folks who claim that their spouse worked from Wednesday evening until that Sunday afternoon and was exhausted by their work.

One would have to believe the public safety of those who write the city employees checks should not expect to shove out from their driveways 12 feet from the curb. This was never observed on the areas where housing does cost less than what is quoted above. And yet outside of those higher priced homes, the streets where city council members live and the employees own streets the rest of the housing additions were left like the picture.
