Tokyo Treat (AUTO- RENEW) SCAM. AVOID!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Auto-Renew is opt-in with no disclosure.
  • - You are enrolled in Auto-Renew without authorization.
  • - No account required; renewal emails aren't sent.

WARNING: Tokyo Treat (and sister company Sakuraco) operate a scam.

This company uses a predatory and deceptive business practice which deliberately uses an "Auto-Renew" opt-in on any purchase regardless of its duration (ie, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, etc) without disclosing this fact.

Tokyo Treat automatically "Opts you In" to Auto-Renew, without your direction, or authorization (ie, check box or button) to do so.

No account is set up is necessary.

No emails are sent to purchaser of this service, disclosing auto-renew will be taking place.

No email notification is sent by TokyoTreat prior to the renewal, so the renewal happens before you can take action.

Their customer service portal is deliberately broken, and no claims can be filed.

Their customer service department does not respond to email (or expensive international phone calls) to resolve the issue.

Tokyo Treat / Sakuraco does not process a refund, based on their predatory practices.

They simply continue to charge your Credit Card, without interaction with any of your Cancellation requests.

AVOID these companies!!

User's recommendation: AVOID Tokyo Treat and Sakuraco companies. SCAM

Fraudulent charge for $1,620

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Ordered three 12-month Tokyo Treats subscriptions in 2022, charged $1,620.
  • - Auto-renewed without notice; cancellation in 2023 did not stop charges.
Updated by user Mar 05, 2024

TokyoTreat persist in their predatory practice of hooking customers into subscriptions that automatically renew and are charged without informing consumers. Since they have this practice buried deep in their TERMS AND CONDITIONS the insist that they are legally protected to do so.

Original review Feb 19, 2024
My story begins around Christmas in 2022 when I went on the Tokyo Treats website and ordered 12-month subscriptions for monthly packages of Tokyo Treats to be delivered to my three children. I was charged $540 for each subscription for a total payment of $1,620.

My children received a package monthly for 12 months and enjoyed your products.
However, in November 2023, I discovered that Tokyo Treats had charged me $1,620.
This surprised me, and I contacted Tokyo Treats to find out why I had been charged.
The response I received from your company was that the TERMS and CONDITIONS of my initial subscriptions were that they would renew automatically until canceled. So, I immediately canceled the three subscriptions I had placed in 2022 for my children,
Tokyo Treats then told me that I am not entitled to a refund because your TERMS and CONDITIONS state that cancellation must be made before the anniversary date of the initial subscription.
In all my experience with online subscriptions, vendors always contact me before a subscription is due to renew and offer me the opportunity to cancel my subscription.
In the case of Tokyo Treats, I was never notified that the three subscriptions I gave to my children would renew, nor was I asked to approve the $540 x 3 for a total charge of $1,620.
More importunately, from the beginning I was deceived when I first ordered 12 months of Tokyo Treats for my children for Christmas in 2022 since Tokyo Treats failed to make it transparent that I was subscribing for LIFE and would be charged every year thereafter until I canceled.
Later, I checked where TERMS and CONDITIONS appear on the Tokyo Treats website and discovered that at the very bottom of the CHECKOUT page, in small print, there is a link to TERMS and CONDITIONS.
I need for TokyoTreats to refund me the $1,620 they have charged me since I have cancelled my subscription and have nothing to show for it.

User's recommendation: Do not subscribe but if you do, immediately cancel your ongoing subscription or you will be charged each year until you do cancel.
