Verified Reviewer |Severe Health Hazard & Misrepresentation - Avoid "Rockwood Getaway"
- - Refrigerator broken; spoiled food; temp hit 18C.
- - Deck not as advertised; moldy chairs.
- - Upstairs beds require a steep ladder; we left after 4 nights.
I want to warn anyone looking at the "Rockwood Getaway" property in Rockwood, ME. Do not trust the filtered 5-star reviews on the corporate booking sites.
We stayed here for 4 nights (leaving a day early because of the conditions) and we are incredibly lucky we did not end up in the hospital with food poisoning.
The refrigerator was completely broken. There was no thermometer inside, but after noticing our watermelon and strawberries had completely molded and spoiled, I tested the temperature with a digital sensor. The coldest the refrigerator could get was 18C (64.4F)which is deep into the USDA bacterial danger zone. We had unfortunately already eaten meat stored in there before realizing it was a warm box.
Furthermore, the deck was not "furnished" as advertised; it only had broken, moldy plastic chairs.
The sleeping arrangements are also an undisclosed hazard, requiring you to climb a steep ladder or a highly unstable, rickety spiral staircase to reach the upstairs beds. We had to crowd onto a single downstairs bed.
I emailed management (Tides to Pines) to warn them about the dangerous refrigerator and the conditions, they did not offer any compensation.
