Thrifty Car Rental Complaints and Reviews
I issued a reservation for a car with weeks of anticipation. The reservation was originally $57 for 2 days. When I arrived to counter clerk tried to charged me first $299, I ask him about the change of cost, and with a very bad attitude he told me about an underage fee for being under 25 years, and told the best he could do was like $199 (I couldn't afford that) And By the way they ask you for your age at reserving but they didn't add any fee at...Read more
Zero Zero Zero Just had the most appalling experience of my life. Booked a car on line via a special that offered the choice of a compact or midsize vehicle. The agent at the airport refused to honor the special-despite the fact that we explained that the compact car would not accommodate 3 car seats. We showed him our coupon-he said we could have a midsize if we paid extra. classic bait and switch. We asked to speak to the manager. I explained...Read more
I hired a car (Confirmation no H0821951929) pick up was Miami Airport and return was Miami Airport. On return from the US to the UK, I checked my bank details and saw that you had charged me $87.89 for Road Side Cover I knew nothing about. At no stage during my picking up the car at Miami was Roadside Cover mentioned by the lady who served me. The only extra I agreed to was the Toll charges. In all the years I have been renting cars (and I rent...Read more

BAIT AND SWITCH!!! Even with a confirmed reservation Thrify will tell you they are "out of cars", forcing you to rent from their affiliated companies, Hertz, Dollar. This has happened to many other renters. Thrifty corporate does nothing to remedy this fraud.

I just read more reviews for Thrifty Car rental and it seems they rake all thier customers that do not know the rules in that state. This is not just one location. From what i am reading there are several complaints about the same problems. I would have opted in to any sunshine pass if I had known how they steal from me if I didn't opt in.
I had a rental car from Hertz in Chicago. One of the employees named Jada provided me with excellent service. She was very polite. She did everything in her power to get me exactly what I needed. She was very helpful and did an outstanding job. I travel a lot so I use Hertz car rentals very often. They provide you with a great choice of car and a very great and very cheap price. I have been using Hertz for a very long time & will continue to use...Read more
I reserved a car at Thrifty's LaGuardia facility (NYC) for a holiday trip. I booked a month in advance. The quoted prices was $239 for my trip (plus the usual nonsense always tacked on - taxes, fees, anything else they can do to jack up the price). The Thrifty location is off airport grounds. I arrived on Christmas eve. Although my car insurance covers rentals, Thrifty forces you to take basic insurance. I declined their absurd charges for other...Read more
For the last two days of our trip in Israel, we hired a car from Thrifty in Tiberias via Expedia on 30th Dec 2016. The trip was commenced on 5-6 Jan from Tiberias to Ben-Gurion airport. On the day of 5th Jan we arrived to Thrifty car rental (71 Hayarden Street, Tiberias) at 1.55 pm. When we walked in we saw a lady sitting behind a desk and presumably working as a car rental assistant. However, her desk looked more like a desk at the beauty...Read more
I was accused of smoking in the car. The car wasn't clean when I picked it up but it was 10pm, dark where the car was parked, I was tired from traveling all day, so didn't notice it until the next morning. There were ashes, dirt, sand, etc. throughout the carpeting and on the seats. There was grease on the bottom of the driver's seat that stained my pants. The cup holders were full of 'goop', apparently a mix of excessive Armor All and filth....Read more
Reserved a $50k Grand Cherokee. After 20 minutes in line I was told there were none left. Instead I received a crappy $34k Forerunner. The back seat was full of trash. The Service Engine light was on. Called Customer Service to get a replacement. They refused to pick it up. I had to drive back to the airport and get in line AGAIN. Nothing decent was available. Reluctantly I exchaned it for an even crappier $21k Journey. I'm afraid to take it...Read more
AVOID THRIFTY HEATHROW AT ALL COSTS - They are liars and cheats. As i checked out my car I was told they had noticed a "tiny" dint in a tyre - when i asked to see it as i hadn't noticed anything they said "not to worry" as i wouldnt be charged. Loe and behold i got back to discover that i had been charged £200 - it took TWO WEEKS for them to reply and they basically said "tough"... ABSOLUTE SCAMMERS!!! I have heard from other people that have...Read more
We had recently rented a car in Israel and I am quite shocked that our story is similar to other customers. Usually, major corporations react to negatve feedback and try to fix the problem and not pretend that it didn't happen. We have rented a basic car thru Internet to save some money as Israel is incredibly expensive. Upon arrival, we were told that because we have booked the car based on the online reservation, the actual quote will be given...Read more
