I was Scammed by Writers Tree

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • Retired CPA says Writers Tree scammed him; paid June 2023, book not published by Jan 2025; upselling and fake reviews with AG complaints.
Updated by user Apr 10, 2025

Unresolved. Retaliation started with daily phishing emails from *** sites with expletive sex acts.

I report phishing each time, block each email, block each call, but they just keep on coming.

I’m targeted by criminal actors who are able to slip by multiple filters and spam blockers. I cannot prove that Writers Tree is behind these criminal activities, but I believe that a sudden surge of spam just after my posts is the direct result of my negative reviews and not just coincidence.

Original review Mar 25, 2025
Fellow Authors, Beware of Writers Tree
I was scammed by Writers Tree.
I'm a retired CPA specializing in IRS audits and appeals. I advised thousands of clients over 50 years to avoid being scammed. Then I found myself scammed!
I needed assistance in publishing the second edition of my book on " How to Avoid IRS Audits." I chose Writers Tree after reading their claim as the #1 Top Book Writing Company and glowing reviews of 4 and 5 stars. Then, my nightmare began.
I hired and fully paid them in June 2023. It's now January 2025 and they have not published my book. What they did, however, was annoy me with unending sales pitch to buy extra services. My wife advised me to stop dealing with them when she noticed that I was constantly arguing with them to stop bugging me.
I dug deeper into reviews and found that they were rated with 1 or 2 stars. How they received glowing reviews, I don't know. I wouldnt be surprised that they were fake reviews. Even their names are fake. Their HQ address is fake. I found reviews that they operate out of Pakistan.
I lost money from sales during the 2024 tax season and had to visit my doctor for elevated BP from stress from their constant strong arm tactics.
I'm now lodging a complaint with the Attorneys General of the states of California where I live and New York and Florida where they claim to be headquartered. Id love to connect with Jennifer R of Charlotte NC and Liza M of San Ramon who are also lodging complaints wit the Attorneys General of NY, FL, CA, NC.
I'm a conservative professional and careful businessman but I still fell for these scammers. Theyre great at scamming, poor at helping their customers. They were relentless in aggressively selling extra services but did not care about publishing my book. Do yourself a favor. Do not hire Writers Tree. Youll be sorry.
Update: I previously posted a 1* review of Writers Tree. Since that review, I have been receiving a swarm of *** invites to bait me into into opening links to phishing sites. Im 80 years old and do not visit *** sites. My bank also had to cancel a credit card due to fraudulent activities. I have no proof that they are involved and this may just be a coincidence but Id like to know if other authors who posted negative reviews have the same experience.

User's recommendation: Do your Due Diligence before hiring Writers Tree or other Vendors

•WRITERS TREE IS SCAM – FAKE NAMES, FAKE HQ IN NEW YORK & FLORIDA

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • Failed to publish the paperback; contract unfulfilled.
  • Lawyer filed suit over fake names and HQs.
  • Complaints to AGs, FBI, FTC; phishing emails.

I hired Writers Tree to publish the 2nd edition of my book How to Avoid IRS Audits.Contract called for fees that I fully paid and for Writers Tree to publish my book which they did not.I signed up last June 2023; it is now March 2025, and they still have not fulfilled their obligation.I hired a lawyer to sue them for failure to publish the paperback version with Amazon and other media.Writers Tree settled by promising to fulfill their contract, but they failed to comply. Im preparing documents for my lawyer to sue them in California Superior Court.

Its been challenging for my lawyer because they use fake names and multiple HQ addresses. They claim their headquarters to be in New York per website but lists a Florida address in Facebook. My lawyer researched and found them to be operating out of Pakistan. My lawyer lodged complaints with the Attorneys General of California, New York, and Florida. He also filed a complaint with the FBI cybercrime unit.We are now filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at https://consumer.ftc.gov.It was challenging for me to cope with calls from Rob Dustin because he did not take no for an answer. As we prepared to file complaints, I received an email from Stella Jones that Rob Dustin died in a tragic car accident and that his laptop was lost so they could not help me; however, her email was signed by Nathan Smith. Funny. Not so funny: Ive been receiving about 10 phishing emails per day from *** sites since I started posting negative reviews. I did not visit *** sites before; neither did I receive these types of emails before. It seems that theyre just waiting for me to accidentally click a button to connect with naked women.

I just must be careful and vigilant.I suffered stress from their endless pushy relentless calls to buy more and more services.Their strong-arm tactics to sell extra services took a toll that caused me to suffer high blood pressure.

Im conservative and careful but their claim to be the #1 book publisher and 4-5* ratings hooked me.My lawyer did deep research and found them to have 1-2* and rated F by BBB Better Business Bureau. Its a mystery how they received 4.5* from Trust Pilot that kept rejecting my 1* rating.Fellow authors, do your due diligence before engaging Writers Tree or any other vendor.Fellow authors, do your due diligence before engaging Writers Tree or any other vendor.

Their "Professionalism"

AI Highlights
  • They contacted me about a low-priced service and tried to match the price.
  • Drafts didn't match the cover; no body text without corrections.
Contains 1 confidential file for company representatives

I ran an inquiry online for low priced service and they contacted me. I mixed them up with another company but then they tried to match that price.

They received my full file completely done with everything but proofreading and formatting. Signed up with them on October 15th and the two possible draft examples that they sent me back weren't even what the cover was supposed to look like. Hadn't even made it past the cover, without corrections, to see a body, so I called and demanded a refund.

Each time we talk, it's a different person. No clue of the scammer's name, Jessica, Tyrone and Brian are all scam squad.

Failure to pay royalties owed

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • Writers Tree is four months behind on royalties owed to me.
  • They say funds were deposited and should have arrived in 3-5 days, but it has passed.
Contains 4 confidential files for company representatives

The Writers Tree is, at this time, 4 months behind in paying royalties that are owed to me. I have been told repeatedly that the money has been deposited, and I would be receiving the money within 3-5 business days, That timeline has long passed. They sincerely apologize for the delay, but apologizes cannot pay my credit card bill for the amount of money I have paid them.

Loss:
$50
Pros:
  • Good customer service
  • Some team members doing a good job
  • Easy to reach
Cons:
  • Cost far above original price
  • Many unexpected upsells to original project

Preferred solution: Deliver product or service ordered

User's recommendation: Carefully research the company before investing money.
