OVER CHARGE FOR STICHES REMOVAL FOLLOW UP
I went to the Woodbury MN ER for a bad cut on finger, required several stitches. I was told to come back for removal of the stitches and they stated that is all included in original visit charges. They informed me that there are no additional charges. Went back for removal, doc came in to look at it for less than a minute, and then charged me another $310.75 to write a prescription due to possible infection. There was no other patients in at that time and I still waited over 30 minutes for someone in the room I was put in. Everyone was just standing around talking. I finally stepped out and they said someone will be in soon. You are better off going directly to a hospital ER. Charges are the same and they will get in you faster.

The Urgency Room = RIP OFF FEES; Dr. Shafe = Crazy Man
Update by user Jan 28, 2013
Illinois requires prior consent of all participants to monitor or record a phone conversation. Ill.
Rev. Stat. Ch. 38, Sec.
14-2. It is interesting that Dr. Shafe who is so open about protecting the rights of his staff hires a billing company that BLATANTLY BREAKS ILLINOIS STATE LAW ABOUT RECORDING PHONE CALLS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE PERSON CALLING IN! Michael, you should know better than this!
It is strange that Dr. Shaffe says ALL the charges have been written off when I continue to get and PAY bills sent to me from the Urgency Room.

I had a question about my billing that I had discussed with the office manager but Dr. Shafe called me at least 3 times requesting that I talked to him. He became completely unglued. He said he "double-dogged dared me" to file a lawsuit which I had never said that I would. I returned his call at his request but he said he would "call the police" on me - for what I don't know. The Urgency Room charged $125 for a visit when their price list states $98 and charged a weekend fee of $35 NEVER mentioned on their website or price list. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINEES AND ESPECIALLY THIS DOCTOR!!!!

The doctor is running a business - nothing more! What about the Hippocratic Oath?
This guy is a huckster out to make a buck! Bad medicine here, big bills and poor results!
Hey, way to go Dr. Mike.
Our family and friends all love you and your place.
Found this online when I went to post a positive review again for you guys.

I have decided to add part of the transcript in my response to the patients complaint. Here is the summary from his first call to our billing company on December 7th 2012;
"patient called in regards to code 99051 when we started billing-pulled pivot and notified him of guidelines-was quite upset that there was a charge-requested our address along with ceo info and wanted the facility corp office address and ceo as he is sending a letter to the atty general fwd email to supervisor"
Hmmmmmmm.....judge for yourself.
If Mr. X wants to get into a war of truth, we have the recordings. Our reputation stands for itself.
David, you should know better than this. We can release the transcript of all your calls if you wish, even the first one where you threatened the billing staff in Rockford Illinois.
We did already give this to the BBB. This person called an harrassed the billing people and my staff. His first phone call to the billing company threatend to report to the state that we were false advertising. His insurance company contracted for an actual lower rate and he ended up paying less than our cash pay rate.
We do offer a 30% discount for payment at time of service. My cell phone number is on the internet and it is 816-260-****. This person has some issues and I had to tell him to no longer call the my staff. He filed a complaint with the Better Business people and we responded. We are family owned and family run, and I am available to address any patients concern.
If anyone reads this man's complaint, just take a look at our website comments and the ones online and judge for yourself.I will not tolerate customers harrassing my employees and this fella decided to make false accusations on the internet. I will post his bill with his name removed to prove he paid less and the balance of his bill was written off to get him to stop harrasing our company. I feel sorry for his plumber, electrician, or any other professional.
At least I will give my name and phone number. Respectfully,Michael Shafe MD
