The Tile Guy is Great Shop - The negative reviews here are BS

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Kevin and his team are top.
  • - They provide installer recommendations but do not back them; deep-set 1600 sq ft tile in an Austin home turned out great.

I have worked with Kevin and his team on several DIY jobs, big ones. They are first class, honest, and incredibly helpful.

They will recommend installers but are clear that they do not stand behind them.

The first job was a 1600 sq ft installation of deep set 16" x 16" tile. Yes, deep set tile - about 1.5" of mortar under the tile. It is a old home. The installer and I intercommunicated on a few things and I paid him too soon (before the job was completely done), but it turned out great.

Lesson learned - you need to know what you want and be very specific with the installer.

There was no one in Austin that knew how to handle this deep set mortar. Fortunately, Kevin knew a guy whose dad was a long time tile installer so there he had experience with this sort of work.

Pros:
  • Integrity
  • Good adivce
  • Customer service

Wrong Vendor!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Reviews shown aren't for margins' company.
  • - Please clarify location and the vendor address.
  • - Texas company has good service and product selection.

*Neither* of the above reviews is for the company whose address appears in the margins on this page. Please clarify your location and the address of the vendor you are criticizing so as not to harm good reliable companies out there.

I was surprised to find negative reviews for the company I know and have turned to for numerous projects, which is very much beloved by all of its customers, who excels in customer service and product selection here in Texas. But I note that neither of the two negative reviews is even in the same state.

Please do NOT get them confused.

The tile man is a rip off

AI Highlights
  • - Tile guy did poor grout and caulk; he didn't answer.
  • - Neighbor referred mostwantedlandscaping, who did the flagstone porch and then bathroom tile.

The first time I hired a company called the tile guy. He did a poor job of grouting and some of the caulking around the bath and we now know that he ripped us off.

We tried to call him over and over and over and he never returned any of our calls. Last year we moved into a new house and we were referred by our neighbor to a company called mostwantedlandscaping, he did our front porch in flagstone. He only charged us for his time and we know this because we went to the tile store with him to buy the materials.

He new the best places to get the cheapest rates on materials. He did such great job and we eventually hired him to do our bathroom in ceramic tile.
