Horrible service - Stay clear!

HORRIBLE SERVICE!

Do not waste your $ with this company.

They never show when it snows more than the 2 , even though that is what the min requirement is. Their equipment seems to always be down and we are told that is why they did not show.

When we call the provided hotline number, a generic message is played stating they are keeping an eye on the forecast. This is the biggest waste of $, and I will NOT be referring this company to anyone, and have told my neighbors to stay clear of this business! My suggestion is to stay clear of this company!

As a past driver for the snow guys, I can tell you they do NOT own a fleet of trucks. They contract all their plowing out to independent owner operators.

I have seen several comments that, when asked why customers didn't get the paid for service, have been told "their" equipment is down. Based on the great promises of "next day pay" in their ads, owner operators sign up but find they are lucky to get paid "next year"

Drivers simply quite and that is why customers don't get service.

The Snow Guys (TheSnowGuys.com). Total scam!

Hired The Snow Guys (www.TheSnowGuys.com) out of Livonia for snow removal. Only once in 8 snowfalls they came withing 24 hrs.

I had to shovel snow myself every single time to be able to get out and then eventually had to buy a snow thrower in January. Twice I had to call them 2 or 3 days after snowfall so they'd come and clear the snow ... that almost wasn't there because I had done it myself(!). And then ...

they sent me invoice for total of 15 service calls, with many visits charged as two or three !!!

Total Scam - never hire them ever!

Buyer beware

worst snow service removal I ever had. only twice they came overnight to clear the snow, the rest of the times either took them 48 hours to 72 hours, and in some cases they did not show up at all.

phone line is either always busy or they never respond to voice messages. the one time I was able to get hold of someone, they never apologized and had promised a plow in 12 hrs, they came in 36 hrs.

I have reviewed many other complaints from different websites, it seems they try to get a fresh batch of customers every season by posting flyers all over town.

After reading these and other comments from BBB (they score an F) I decided not to sign up.

Key phrases from the Terms and Conditions are:

"Snow guys shall not exceed TEN service calls without additional written permission. Any additional service calls exceeding ten in total for the season will be billed at a rate of $20 per service call." OK, this sounds reasonable. Then it gets very odd. "Blizzards and storms with heavy accumulations or resulting in the issuance of winter weather, snow or storm watch advisory or warning by the national weather service may be services and may at the contractors discretion count as MULTIPLE SERVICE CALLS."

The above second quote from the contract is ridiculous. Isn't the point of snow removal to get plowed out when it snows? Funny, now I am now searching for another snow plowing service.

Guest

Thw worse service I have ever had. Sent a bill for an additional amount of 90.00 over an above the first 99.00.

Said they came out 16 times and that is a big lie. I am lucky they came out 8 times. They are using the bad winter to make more money. They also tore up my sod when their truck got stuck in a snow bank.

I am writing them a letter and am not paying them the full amount.

They really should get nothing. Their flyers should be pulled out of the mail boxes when you see them.

Guest

Well, they ARE the cheapest. If I were you I'd fire that expensive snow removal service right now so I could take advantage of this incredible bargain.

Oh wait. thats just what you all did and now you are upset.

Well look at it this way. If it never snowed last winter you would have had one heck of a bargain!

Guest

BE CAREFUL of these people. Their business practices are not right to the consumer. They operate through a post office box and their phone number is voicemail. The only way they want to hear from their customers is through email so that they can ignore you. Several phone calls and days after a storm you MIGHT get a reply if they are so inclined.

Their billing practices are questionable. They will offer you a number of service calls for the season at a package rate and then at their own discretion claim that if it is a stronger storm, while they only make one call to your home, (as much as a day after the storm is over) will count it as more than one service call. But you won't realize it until they make some wildly arbitrary decision and send you an end of season bill conveniently claiming that you underpaid by their view.

They've even been seen on local tv shows for problems with the way they conduct business.

Be careful! Have an attorney read their contract before you sign it. and MAKE CHANGES! In fact, do yourself a favor.....save yourself the grief and go elsewhere. It's not worth it.

Guest

We are in the same boat... paid them for 10 calls, they came only 4 times and then charged us after the fact an additional $75 saying they came 15 times!!!

Crazy!

We received a letter from a lawyer today. Has anyone not paid and had them really take you to court??

Guest

I too received the letter from James R Sparrow, crooked attorney out of Flat Rock, MI, reach him at (313) 260-****. Really Snow Guys, no attorneys within 100 miles would collect this garbage?

I'm not paying this, let them take me to court over $95. We place all Snow Guys letters in the circular file at my house.

Guess what people if they have to plow more than a regular season, why shouldn't they get paid more money. I know I didn't sign an unlimited contract, did you?

I'm an attorney and I read the contract and agreed to have them plow for me because I wasn't willing to pay the top dollar companies what they wanted.

You people have no one to blame but yourselves. Check out the other companies in the area and you would realize you would have ended up paying about 4 times what they asked for.

Guest

Yesterday, I received a letter from their lawyer as well. They did not provide the service as per contract to me and infact did not show up on one occassion and showed up after a day on another.

I intend to fight them in court if they plan to take me to one. I wanted to take them to court myself and claim the money for not showing up.

This will give me an opportunity to counter claim. I have all the proof that I need.

Guest

My husband worked for them last winter and they still owe him over 1200.00. The company also goes by a few other names.

Northernstar, Mikes Best, Snowmen, north star, snow king and the snow guys. I received a couple checks from them and the bounced. We are still trying to get paid. Please becareful this winter on who have plow you out.

They are a bunch of crooks if u ask me. We always get excuses from them and run arounds when we try to get paid from them.

Best of luck everyone! :( :( :( :( :(

Hired these guys this season based on a flyer they distributed. There have been two occasions so far, the most recent being Friday, 02/22/2013, where they didn't show up at all.

With this afternoon's snowfall (02/26), just for kicks, I called their number and listened to a long BS message in which they cautioned that they may not get to everyone until...wait for it...02/26! Thank God I still have my shovel, looks like I'll be needing it tomorrow AM.

Wish I had done some research before I hired them.

I have always gotten paid from them for subcontract work. Maybe they're some guys plowing snow that shouldn't.

Consumers need to realize that if they sign up with the least expensive company you get the least expensive service. My company charges about double what they do. The difference is my customers are all serviced within 5 hours of the end of a snow fall.

Maybe the customers need to realize they get waht they pay for. You want to make sure your drive is clear by a certian time in the morning, it's gonna cost you.

Guest

I believe my company went out 16 times last winter. We plow at 2+ inchs, bigger storms we most likey will have to plow more then once. I know these guys are scammers but you people should also realize that you are not the only ones that want to be plowed early in the morning, everyone wants that. There is no way it can be done. Especially for large events, you should expect a longer delay and should not be out driving anyway. We make exceptions for doctors on call but that is it, you can't make everyone happy.

I think a lot of you tried to save a buck and dropped the more expensive companies and went with these guys and are now realizing you got what you paid for.

Also Snow guys don’t just scam the customer they scam their sub-contractors as well, I am amazed the guy isn’t in jail by now.

I never have had a problem getting paid my monies. Did u suck or something?

Guest

We plowed several times for these guys on good faith after receiving one or two payments. After that they gave us NSF checks and after that they told us to hold checks until funds cleared.

The funds never cleared and these guys owe us over $5000.00!! We are looking for bank account numbers, business information, anything they own that we can collect.

We have a judgement and now need info as to where to get paid from. We'll pass along all info we have to anyone who needs it - give us a response to this email.

Guest

We also regret switching from our previous commercial snow removal service to SnowGuys at the same cost. They advertise that they are residential and a morning service but so far we have had NO service at all despite phone calls and email. We did not pay so we could shovel our driveway ourselves.

Guest

BE AWARE!! DO NOT USE. EVER!!!!!

I signed a contract in October for their snow services. Their flier indicates EARLY MORNING SNOW REMOVAL.

It snowed maybe 3 - 4 a couple days during X-Mas week. At 2:30pm on the next day, our driveway was still snow covered. Also do not EVER expect to reach them. We left messages in their voice mail three times requesting them to return the call, but they never called us back. So I had to do it myself. So much for Early Morning Snow Removal. And this was not even a lot of snow. Can't imagine if we were to get even more snow.

Contract says refund if cancellation sent certified cancellation by 1-12013. They rec'd it on the 29th, we will see if I get even some of my money back.

Guest

1. came 5 times and charged me 12 times. (*^(*&*(*()()*&+%&^%

2. I should have read the contract more carefully

3. I should have done more due deligence in researching about them before engaging them.

4. I blame myself.

5. Don't pay a dime extra than that 99 dollars, infact claim for the refund for the number of times that they did not show up.

6. Their attorney don't do a jack %$#@, don't worry all of those letters are scare tactics. They have no case in the court of law. In fact they don't even show up with their reputation in the court on the court date.

7. TAKE IT EASY...
