I was recently called. They were very nice, and wanted to know if my home was affected by Hurricane Ian.

But beware the sugar-sweet tone of their callers:

Translation: Was their collateral impaired by Ian?

Why do they want to know that?

Well, once the house is damaged, their collateral is no longer worth what they loaned you on it. They can ask for more money from you perhaps, or perhaps call in the loan.

Bad enough people lost their homes-- must TMF now make it worse by calling in their mortgages?

If they want to know this, they should send out their investigators and underwriters, instead of further victimizing those who lost their homes.

Shame on you The Mortgage Firm!

Beware of "The Mortgage Firm".

We had the same bad experience! We had sold our home so fast that it never hit the market.

We packed up and came to Florida without having bought a home. When we did find a house, Jim Taggert, at the Mortgage firm in Altamonte, FL advised us that it would take way longer to get a VA loan and basicly said he would not handle it. We had been in a hotel for 2 months and needed to close the deal, so he pushed us into an FHA loan. At closing I found out that he was putting a PMI on it.

I contested stating with us putting $155,ooo.oo cash down, with a loan of $105,000.00 loan on a home, we should not have to pay a PMI. He lied and said that in Florida we had to have a PMI for the life of the loan. The intire time we were dealing with The Mortgage Firm, Jim put us through a living *** and said what he was doing was the only way to get us a loan, even though we had EXCELENT credit. As the last person was saying, he told us we had to pay off AND CLOSE every credit card we owned.

He also made us Pay off the truck we bought from Ford (with a loan) 2 months before, stating "we had to do it before anyone would be able to get us a mortgage loan on any house! Jim Taggert not only made us spend $20,000.00 that was going be used to pay down the amount we would need a loan for, but by making us close all our credit cards that we had for year, closing the cards dropped our credit rating quit a bit. My advise would be to stay away from The Mortgage firm if you don't want to pay way more and have your credit rating drop, by using this company! Remember, they need your business, you DO NOT need theirs.

Shop for a Mortgage Co.

of your chose, not your realtors. That is were we made our first mistake!

Reason of review:
dishonest practices

Preferred solution: Make others aware. I am paying 3.5% on $20,000.00 that we were force to spend on paying off bills, instead of going into the cash be used to reduce the price of the loan

The Mortgage Firm drug my loan out for over 3 months, required me to cancel credit cards and then denied my loan.

Jeff Green & Tammy Earley at The Mortgage Firm drug my loan out for over 3 months and then denied me all together. I asked for a Freddie Mack loan and they were so mad I didn't go FHA since the commission is higher they stalled pretending they write Freddie Mack loans.

I refused to go FHA because I was putting 50% down to reduce my monthly payment. I went to a new lender and was approved in a few weeks but to my surprise the appraisal was $16,000 less than the one The Mortgage Firm had ordered. I of course would never over pay for a home so I started looking for another place.. Come to find out The Mortgage Firm does not follow Federal guidelines or Frank Dodd.

This is exactly why the housing bubble burst in 2008. Unethical Mortgage companies appraising houses for more than they are worth. This company and their representative, Jeff Green is the most unethical mortgage company I have ever delt with and I've bought 7 homes in my lifetime. Jeff Green spoke down to me for asking intelligent questions and actually reading all three of the contracts he sent me to sign.

Tammy Earley told me to close credit cards. Any mortgage company that tells you to close all your credit cards prior to having funding which will lower you credit score is unethical. By law they are not allowed to do that but I found out after the fact. I am filing claims with the BBB, & the State Attorney Generals office as well as any home lending governing agencies..

My advice to anyone seeking a mortgage would be to avoid The Mortgage Firm and especially Jeff Green. He is a condescending, unethical liar.
