American Flag icons

AI Highlights
  • - A Canadian newspaper shows American flag icons next to customer service numbers.
  • - The 416 line has a Canadian flag icon but leads to American numbers; subscription canceled.

Why does a CANADIAN newspaper show American Flag icons (3) beside customer service 1-800 … help line phone numbers. The one 416 help line # has a Canadian flag icon but when calling this number I was directed to call the American Flagged 1-800 numbers.

Has there been a takeover of the Globe and Mail by America???? anyway I cancelled my subscription and this played a small part.

Misleading product by Globe and Mail

AI Highlights
  • - Globe Unlimited did not include Globe2Go content.
  • - Refund was refused after 10 minutes.
  • - User felt misled about what Unlimited includes.

Yesterday, I decided to try "Globe Unlimited" subscription product provided by The Globe and Mail -- major Canadian newspaper http://www.theglobeandmail.com/

I assumed that the term Unlimited implies a full access to all their content available online. Their Help and FAQ pages suggest the same:

http://feedback.theglobeandmail.com/knowledgebase/articles/118854-what-do-i-get-with-a-subscription-to-globe-unlimit

http://feedback.theglobeandmail.com/knowledgebase/articles/124473-what-is-globe-unlimited-and-how-does-it-work-

http://feedback.theglobeandmail.com/knowledgebase/articles/130751-how-is-this-different-from-globe2go-access-or-glob

It turned out that the subscription does not provide access to every day news available online under a different product called Globe2Go. Basically, the "Globe Unlimited" does not provide access to the news and article available in both printed newspaper and its epaper version called Globe2Go.

They refused to refund me the subscription fee although I requested it 10 minutes after registering for the service. I am really embarrassed by the tricks this newspaper uses to mislead and confused readers in order to make more money online.
