Look before you drink
- - A fly was found in a Glenlivet bottle.
- - Glenlivet apologized; little follow-up.
- - The store offered a refund; the rest was poured down the drain.
Pouring a drink from a large bottle of Glenlivet a couple of weeks ago and something black fell into my glass. I fished it out and found it was a fly.
Yuck. So I wrote a note to The Glenlivet and told them about it. Nothing happened for a couple of weeks. Then I found an email from them asking for a picture of the bottle, and they were sorry for the "inconvenience." I sent a picture and suggested this must be a pretty common occurrence, since they refer to a fly in their scotch as an "experience." I'll guarantee you it was more than that to me.
Yuck again. Kind of makes you want to start straining dark liquids before you drink them. So now, two weeks later, still no word, no apology, no "bug letter." Even though the store at which I bought it has said they will refund my money. Tonight I said the *** with it and poured the rest of the bottle down the drain.
Glenlivet has been my only choice in scotch for as long as I can remember; I actually can't drink any of the popular brands: Johnny Walker, Chivas, etc., or any of the less popular, more expensive single malts. But I'm sorry to say I'll have to find something else; just don't want to deal with a company that treats its customers with such indifference.
- Best-tasting scotch in the business
- Flies in the bottle
Preferred solution: They should certainly give me a full refund: $100. They should also do something that makes me feel better about the company.
