Owner is moody and sarcastic to members. Sounds like kristie!

that's our gal. If she can't give you a *** experience, no one can! Does her cesspool of shittiness still exist?

yup.

If she can't treat her members with respect, why is she even a business owner? What a joke.

Fitness Center for Women, Bristol CT

I went to an open house at the fitness center a few weeks ago. This place advertisies themselves to being supportive and non-judgmental of the ladies who work out at their gym. First of all, the owner, Kristy stood behind the counter eyeing everyone up and down, and wasn't giving a welcoming feel at all. The next thing I hear is her talking to some other woman about who' *** was fat, and who looked like ***, and who they would love to see leave the gym when they moved locations.

For somewhere that is supposed to be "supportive" and different than any other women's gym around, they were pretty nasty. I would write more about what they were saying about their clients, but it was a lot of curse words! I would NEVER, EVER join this gym. I recommend that other women looking for a good place to work out, don't either. I was so unhappy when I left there. I am writing a letter to the local papers as well.

ALSO, they charge way too much for a membership!! And you get NOTHING out of it! They say that they offer a more personalized experience than other places... right, personalized by making fun of you behind your back. Their equipment looks ancient, and again, their staff is just plain rude. Especially the owner.

Hello Kristie's friend (or Kristie herself);

"This gym offers what other gym's don't and never will. So go ahead and go somewhere else. We don't want people of your kind at our gym anyway."

Yes, you're right! this gym offers what "other gyms don't", disrespect for their customers, poorly run mangement and just overall a big headache, as well as a very rude owner.

"We don't want people of your kind at our gym anyway."

What does this mean, "people of your kind"? people who have had poor experiences at this gym and come online to leave a bad review? that doesn't even make sense.

Guest

I sympathize with your experience. I have solved this for myself by never joining a gym; I do strength training at home.

Is this your only blog on this matter? If you have any more blogs or anything on this can you please let me know? I found this blog very enticing.

Classes always start late. This is very annoying.

Or the classes are canceled altogether, and not because of the weather! They need a backup plan!

Guest

Nope. I'm not a "competitor", because honestly, this gym can't compete with bigger, better gyms that treat their customers with more respect.

As i've said in my previous reviews, i've been a member of here twice. I've had to cancel when moving/attending college -- and the second time I tried to cancel, the owner LIED to me and told me (among giving me an attitude), trying to intimidate me and outright lie about what it says directly on their OWN contract --- that you can cancel for fee, which I was ready and willing to pay. The owner told me that "this was no longer available" and refused to let me cancel. I had to block her charges with my bank.

Instead, the owner, Kristie, not only was EXTREMELY RUDE to me, but was also very forceful and dishonest. Customers don't deserve to be treated like this, at all.

On top of that, the gym is no where worth the amount paid. You'll find much better service elsewhere.

Guest

i agree with you... never will i attend life time *** again or any of my family...

Im starting to think that this website is for competitors to trash their competition. I have been a member of this gym for years.

I have cancelled my memberships when I went to college or moved and have never had one single issue with the cancellation process. I have quickly returned when I came back to the area. Also, this fitness center allows many women the opportunity to improve their health by providing a judgment free environment. I have to say that I would not go anywhere else.

I must mention that I do not have any financial gain by making this review.

I simply want other women to know that many members experiences are truly positive and have allowed us to reach our goals.

If we were competitors, we would be giving the names and prices of our fitness centers that are so much better than this place! Also, no one would ever think you wrote this piece for financial gain, especially if they know the owner!

Kristie was just in fact complaining because she has to pay the government a certain amount for every employee that makes over a certain salary/year. Glad this place works for you though!

Guest

This place is way too expensive for what is offered!! The lowest monthly membership is $39. Interested in yoga? A separate package has to purchased. There are other gyms in Bristol that offer more classes (yoga included)and have a pool, but cost less. Why pay more for less when you can pay less for more?

This is to be a new place, but the paint job looks like a child did it. The spin bikes are way too close! Too much ambition for too small a space.

Within the first 2 weeks of the "grand opening," 3 classes were cancelled with no substitution class offered!

Very poorly run. Its clear the owner is not a trained business person.

Will NOT be going back, free classes offered on weekends or not!

It's a shame that because you have an opinion on something that you get to trash someone or their business on here. No one said it was a "new place", the gym moved to a different location.

If you saw this place before she did all this work and put her blood sweat and tears into it, it looks amazing. Not that you care anyway because you're not in her shoes and you don't know her and what this gym has been through. This is a locally owned small business that support women and the owner works her butt off so women have somewhere to go and feel comfortable. This is home to a lot of women.

You don't like the price, the paint job???? Then go somewhere else. You have no clue about this place because you obviously don't belong here. This gym offers what other gym's don't and never will.

So go ahead and go somewhere else. We don't want people of your kind at our gym anyway.

I fail to see how "Kristie" still has customers. She's very rude, unpleasant woman.

Thank you so much "anonymous" for this post! Its a prime example of the rude, judgmental people at your gym!

I agree with MissM, this was definitely posted by the owner, Kristie, or one of her minions. There was just an article in "The Observer" about FCW, and it had that same phrase about blood and sweat in it. Funny coincidence! "We don't want people of your kind at our gym anyway?" What does that mean?

People who want to get healthy and live a fuller life? If you are truly an advocate for women's health, you shouldn't discriminate! Everyone should be welcome, and not be judged or talked about or dissed!

Yes, I was a member there, so the rest of your blah blah blah post is irrelevant to me.

The Fitness Center for women is local, small gym that's currently moving to a new location. Generally, the staff is very pleasant and polite, and they help you with everything, take free measurements for you and all. The trainers are VERY nice and polite. The owner, however, is anything but.

I signed up twice --- the first time before I had gone to college, and had enough free time to commit to a schedule. It worked out fine until I had to cancel due to financial problems (I enrolled in college and could no longer afford to be in college and to afford the $41.48 membership fee, so I had to cancel.) I did this legitimately, by paying the $99 cancellation fee after about 5-6 months. After that, since I was in college, I did not attend the gym for about 2-3 years, until this summer when I had about 3 months to sign up again, this May (my new contract actually began 5/29/13).

So, I thought fine, I can afford this until I get a stable income after graduating college (I am graduating this year.) However, as the months passed on, I noticed another charge on my bank account for $46.59 in ADDITION to the $41.48 which was already taken out. I was fully aware of the yearly $25.00 fee, which had already came out, but this was something else. This extra charge was explained to me (much later, I might add) and the staff of the bank as an "insufficient funds" charge. The $20 "insufficient funds charge" + $41.48 - $46. I called the gym the very day I noticed the charge, and immediately asked to speak to the owner, however she was on vacation at the moment and they said I needed to wait for a week until she got back.

This was not acceptable due to the fact I had missing funds in my account at the moment, and I could not wait for the owner to sort it out with me. I am a college student and need EVERY cent in my account, and I do not account for such errors like "double billing" and other things that would cause my account to go into the negative. And I don't think it's fair to bill me twice, since Bank of America assured me this WAS the gym's error, not theirs, because I had enough funds in the account at the time this mysterious $46.49 appeared. How was it an "insufficient funds charge" when I had more than enough in my account?

I had to call my bank and file a chargeback for the extra amount of the $46. Bank of America explained this charge as a merchant error, and the bank refunded me the amount. The gym owner very rudely stated when she called today, that she disputed the charge against her company, because it was "not her error" and said that the bank is going to retract the refunded amount from my bank.

The owner, Kristie, was VERY rude and didn't seem to be very understanding of the problem. She insisted that she "did nothing wrong", and when I mentioned i'd like to cancel out of pure frustration and because I was moving out of town soon (and would be signing up with a much cheaper gym) in addition to all the trouble this has caused me with the bank (with overdraft fees and calling both the bank AND the gym to no avail), she informed me (or rather lied to me) about not being able to cancel.

On the very back of the membership agreement, it states that you CAN cancel before your contract ends, by paying a $99 cancellation fee. She blatantly lied to me on the phone when she called and told me that I not only can I NOT cancel, but that "the option to pay the $99 was no longer available" and said very condescendingly" "you signed a contract". Well yes, I signed a contract, because i've been at this gym before, AND because I read that you can cancel before your membership ends if you need to, by paying $99. She also tried to rope me into "freezing my account" which is much cheaper, but EXTENDS YOUR CONTRACT. So nope, that wasn't an option.

After she explained about how she runs a business and all the faxing a paperwork she now needs to do because of her company's billing error, she also made it seem as if she was doing me a favor somehow. She said that "as a courtesy", I could continue using the gym! wow! I get to use something i'm being billed for, in addition to dealing with your billing errors! cool! what a favor! how gracious.

Also she took the time to mention to me on the phone today that "I was afraid when you signed up again, because you had a history of this." Meaning, she resented the first time I canceled. Very, very rude. I am so displeased with the service I received.

I was given a really hard time there also when I tried to leave. I was given such attitude and treated rudely that I had to finish out my "contract" by avoiding the owner.

She is NOT a business person. I will never go back there due to the lies Kristie pulled with the billing and the contract!

She's lost over 100 members in the past year. I guess she needs to make her money for the new gym and her new car from somewhere!

That was my exact experience. The owner did not like that I canceled before ... (as stated above in my story, I did not login to make this post.)

I've also given her poor reviews on yelp and other review websites explaining my experience with her.

Basically, Kristie is NOT professional, she's rude and she will HATE you and treat you like garbage if you cancel, even though it is explicitly stated in the contract that you can cancel, for a fee of $99. I didn't notice it until she actually called me and very rudely yelled at me that "it wasn't her fault" and that the fee refund would be reversed. Very, very, very rude.

She's losing customers and she should.

To whomever is reading "Truth's" post, I wouldn't put too much merit behind it. First, it was posted by Rhea, the owner's best friend.

She asked for supported truth, here it is: As a point: If there is a so called "waiting list" for the gym membership, then why is it there was a Groupon for The Fitness Center for Women? How does that work? Also, if there is a so called waiting list, why are there always coupons for new members in Clipper Magazine? Just another lie put out there by this so called "Fitness Center." This place is a joke.

This is not a properly run business. Instead of running with them, I'd run away.

Far far away.

Someone brought it to my attention that the reviews on this site have been updated with misinformation and slanderous comments so I felt the need to state the truth about me and my experience about The Fitness Center for Women instead of "not defend the gym anymore." This is someone's business and livelihoods may be affected by misinformation and untruths.

Please don't believe everything you read...my decision to leave The Fitness Center was a personal decision and I will recommend The Fitness Center to any woman like I always have.

The Fitness Center for Woman is a wonderful & welcoming atmosphere for any woman in need of encouragement & guidance. Every trainer that I have ever worked with or learned from there has been positive, uplifting & educated. Good luck to Kristie and her staff at the new location. I wish you continued success and membership support.

First, I want to say that I just happened to stumble on this website while looking for a new gym to go to. I currently go to the Fitness Center and have been a member for close to 10 years and have recently decided that I need to move on. In the past few years there have been so many changes with staff and in general the vibe of the gym has completely turned around. It's no longer the encouraging place it once used to be. It's funny to me that Michelle was the first person to defend the gym on this website and now she and Kristie have apparently had a falling out, Michelle is no longer at the gym, therefore, not defending the gym anymore. Also, it's hysterical to me that Tanya left a few years ago and is now back. I wonder if she knows that Kristie pretty much trashed her when she left, as she does when all her instructors/tainers leave. I think it's time Kristie start looking at herself and not blaming everyone else when there's a problem and people quit or move on...

And I 100% agree with Becky and anonymous, the people "training" are not certified and really should not be taking $$ for services as such. That's DEFINITELY not only illegal but immoral. For Krisite to profess her love of God and to be "spiritual" and whatnot, she really needs to take a close look at her deceptive ways.

Unfortunately I feel like there are alot of unhappy customers and therefore if/when Kristie moves I don't feel like she'll have a big following. Which by the way, is she moving??? Does anyone know? As a member, I'd like to know. When you ask anyone there, they say they don't know..... Very unorganized... Very frustrating......

I understand this website is for people to share their own experiences and if you had/have a good one there, more power to you. That's great!

This is/was my experience. I wish it wasn't because it's close to my home and for conveniene sake I would like to stay there but with everything I just can't. Hopefully I can stick out my last few months and find a new place that doesn't have all the drama.
