Switch service under false information

AI Highlights
  • - A salesperson claimed to be from CP&L and offered a $150 rebate.
  • - The service switched to Reliant; the rep did not identify; can't switch back.

Sent from my iPad

A sales person came to my residence saying that he was on behalf of CP&L electric company which is our provider as he talked to my spouse saying that our provider CP&L was overcharging us and wanted to give us a rebate of 150.00 dollars. All that my wife had to do is place a call so that the rebate would take effect. He went further as he read the bill which is under my name that we were on a month to month contract. As my spouse place the call the call changed our services to Reliant Energy. The salesperson failed to identify himself as an employee of reliant he said that CP&L had sent him with false pretense . Now we find out that our provider is reliant charging me a 299.00 deposit fee and CP&L charging me early termination fees. We talked to reliant and they told us the transaction was legal because a recording was made yet the salesperson failed to identify himself that he was on behalf of reliant instead he said he was sent by cp&l . I feel we were wrong . I talked to their supervisor that it is unethical. To sent out salespeople using false information. Presently I am stuck and do not know what to do about our situation. I told them I do not want their services I just want to go back to CP&L but they won't switch us.

Texas POWER ~ FRAUD & Embezzlement

AI Highlights
  • - Referred by 99.3 KLTY and felt safe.
  • - Rate jumped 11.9 to 19 cents per kW; bill rose.
  • - Noticed six months of underbilling; charged $400 and $175.

We were referred to this company through the christian radio station 99.3 KLTY so we thought is would be safe.

Several months went by at a rate of 11.9 Cents per KW so needless to say we were happy and seen no reason not to be. We went out of town for two weeks in July and expected our bill to be cheaper. When it arrived in the mail, much to our surprise our 11.9 cent rate jumped to 19 cents per KW and our bill was $100.00's more then the previous month despite the fact we had used HALF the electricity!

I called to inquire why and she stated it was because gas prices had increased..blah blah. Needless to say it takes approx. a month to switch companies so we had to ride it out another month before the change went into affect.

Bill number two comes in again almost $400.00's! for a mobile home! Tears streaming down my face, I didn't know what we were going to do. I still don't! To make matters worse we then received a notice the same day stating they had UNDER BILLED us for the last six months and that we were responsible for the 6 consecutive month BILLING error.

They stated that according to PUC rules and regulations they have the ability to bill you for any undercharged amount within a 6 month time frame which was exactly to the "T" what they were doing. They said in addition to the $400.00 bill for August we now owe them an additional $175.00's! for their billing error and that we have no rights but to pay!

BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! is all I can say~

I called 4 times and was referred to the bill pay arrangement desk where I was forced to leave my name and number for a call back.

I am the mother of three young children and go to school full-time pre-med. My middle child has a rare genetic disorder. Needless to say at this point in our life we are extremely low income and don't know what's going to happen from here. WE may be low income but I am highly educated and I Will report them to every person I can to prevent this from happening to more innocent people!

I've filed with the Better B.B. and the P.U.C.

I called to request bill pay assistance which they claim to have for families experiencing severe financial hardships! They referred me to 211 and told to seek help from my community providers!

AGAIN BEWARE..and please pass the word!

They are misrepresenting themselves. They are cheating and exhibiting Bad Faith.

Don't justt report to the town but to the state regulatory agency AND the ederal office in charge of utilities. I've found that in the south it's sometimes best to skip the local, corrupt offices likely to be getting kickbacks to look the other way. Be careful with your new company, too. It might just be a shell company operated by the same people in order to form a monopoly and cripple any consumers rights.

you have to nip that in the bud, asap. It'sillegal.

We had a similar problem with Texas Power. They issued a statement dated February 10, 2009 showing an amount due of $304.56 on February 26, 2009.

We paid the account by check, and it was credited to our account on February 23, 2009--three days berfore it was due. Meanwhile, I had phoned Texas Power because I did not understand some of the numbers on our January statement. The agent told me that our bill was wrong, and that we owed $386.92 instead. I asked them to send me a revised statement, which they refused to do.

I had already sent the payment that was due according to the February 10, 2009 statement; I said I would pay as soon as I received a revised statement. They said they were not gong to send arevised statement. I decided to transfer to Green Mountain; the same day Texas Power were notified about the change, they issued a disconnect order. The power was turned off.

I phoned and asked them how much we owed, and they said $60.94. They said they disconnect anytime the amount owed is more than $25. Later the same day they told us we owed $368.25, which we paid. They have still not issued a reconnect order.

Warning: although Texas Power looks cheap, it is VERY EXPENSIVE to do business with them, and you cannot rely on the statements you receive; they will claim another additional amount and disconnect you if you don't pay, even if they don't provide you with a revised statement. One of the worst utility companies I have ever dealt with in the last 50 years.

Save yourself a lot of grief--go with any other company than Texas Power. :(
