Verified Reviewer | Byron, MichiganDisappointed with my recliner.
I made three trips to Talsma to pick out new sofa and recliner for my new condo. My living room is very tiny and I had the measurements and pictures of the space.
I went over them with the consultant numerous times, worried that what I ordered wouldn't fit.'The furniture was very expensive and it is beautiful but my recliner is not a wall hugger so it sticks half way in to the living room in order to recline it and makes the room look even smaller. I feel I did not get good advice from my consultant. She should have steered me in the right direction being she knew how little space I had and she is the expert. I haven't bought furniture in 25years.
So I trusted her.
Now I am stuck with a recliner that I either can't recline or just let it stick out into my already small area. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH TALSMA FURNITURE.

Was told furniture we ordered was in stock only to learn after purchase it would be several weeks for delivery. Item arrived nonfunctional, waited to have item deemed unrepairable by technician, then waited again for replacement to arrive.
All told, waited almost three months for functional furniture, which is still described on their website as in stock. Never again.

Resolved: Bad chair
They have someone coming out this week to take a look at the chair.
I purchased a recliner from the Hudsonville store. 2 month later while sitting in the chair, the right side collapsed and now leans to the right.
When you set the recliner down it leans foward. I contacted the service dept but havent heard back yet. You would think they would get back to you immediately. The recliner, when it was delievered, and I sat in it, felt cheap and not made well.
My boss told me not to buy from Talsma's as he had issues with their couch purchased from there, same store, Hudsonville. I probably should have listened. Not even 2 months with this recliner and it has damage. Lots of noise also when sitting in it.
I would suggest shopping at a more reputable business. Talsma's has high priced furniture, however, it may not be high quality furniture.

Horrible customer service
I will start by saying I have never done a review before, but after the horrible service I received I can’t help myself. I went into Talisma’s “other store” in Cascade. The sales person was sitting at the table having lunch. So I just started looking around. I found a chair I was interested in and wanted to know what fabrics it was available in. So I walked all the way back to where she was still having lunch and asked. She then did show me where the samples were, before she went back to finish her lunch.
The real issue came when I came in to return the fabrics. Their was a man at the counter so I walked up to him. He did not greet me or even look up. So I said I would like to return these samples and handed him the paper work. Still he said nothing, didn’t ask if I wanted to order something, just started inputting stuff on the computer. Then he said do you have the Visa card. I gave it to him, he did his thing and while I turned my head to look at something he set the receipt and pen on the counter. When I turned around and signed it,
he said, OK.
That’s it, during the whole transaction he never looked at me or said anything to me.
I wish management or ownership to know how this type of service is spoiling their store and their customers experience
Misrepresenting store policy to customers
I know a lady from Holland Michigan that went down to look at a mattress and was told that if she didn't like the soft mattress she could exchange it for the firmer one. The sales person didn't say anything about any additional charges if she wanted the firmer one.
When it was delivered and taken off the truck she called the store in about two days and said her back felt terrible and she wanted the firmer one. When she was in the store the sales person then gave her additional paperwork saying there would be additional charges to exchange it. The owners of Talsma supported the sales person that lied. Nothing was said that additional charges would occur.
They lied to her and lost my business which would have been to fill my new house that I had just build. I will never buy any furniture from them again because of false statements.
Shame on you, Talsma furniture of all areas. I would greatly suggest attending a church that lied to this elderly woman in Holland.
Total frauds and cheats
These people will say anything to get you to buy *** furniture, and will deny it as soon as the *** is off their truck.
Damage replacement
We ordered a custom dining room and paid in full at the time we ordered and was given a 4 to 6 week lead time. The set came arrived in the wrong color with the table heavily damaged.
They left the set and we were told that it would be reordered correctly.
It has now been six months, no replacement yet. Strangely, it keeps arriving at Talsma damaged. We are told that they are chasing the manufacturer and the delivery service to get this resolved and that we will be kept informed of status.
That has not happened; terrible customer service.
So, they have my money and I have yard sale quality furniture with nothing but empty promises. Six months and no end in sight.
Refused return of a couch that failed in 2 weeks
Never do business with Talsma's furniture! We bought a Best brand reclining sofa from Talsma's this spring ($1058 out the door). The salesman Luc Bergsma, told us it was completely restuffable, which we liked because our previous sofa couldn't be restuffed. We liked the feature but were a little concerned at the same time. We told Luc we didn't want to have to service the sofa right away and asked him how well the sofa would wear. He told us that this sofa wears really well and it would be quite a while before that would happen.
The sofa was delivered on July 2nd 2012. A week and a half after it was delivered we noticed that the outside seats (where my husband and I always sit, the middle rarely gets sat in) were sunk about 3.5 inches more than the middle cushion. The cushions had totally collapsed already, and the sofa was not even two weeks old. In addition, when you look at the back of the sofa, the three seat backs don't line up. Our old sofa is 9 years old and only started showing wear a couple years ago, and the backs still line up perfectly. Wear this excessive on a brand new sofa is simply unacceptable to us and we called Talsma's to request they return the sofa. The customer service rep said we needed to try getting it serviced first. They sent a technician out a few days later. The guy was at our house less than 5 minutes. He lifted one of the foot rests, wrote a couple things on a paper, told us he was going to order more stuffing for it and left. I asked him if he sees this issue a lot with this sofa, and the guy said not a whole lot; but there was something about the way he said it, and how fast he diagnosed the problem that told me he sees it a lot more than he let on. We spoke with reps from several other furniture stores and they all confirmed that this sofa will most likely need to be re-stuffed again before too long, as it is filled with a material called Dacron.
Even though they were going to service it for us under warrantee, we just couldn't believe that a sofa needed to be restuffed after ONLY TWO WEEKS OF OWNING IT! We decided we didn't want it serviced, and we just wanted to return it and go find a different sofa. We called Talsma's on 7/21/12 and requested a refund. The store manager Doug Dykstra told us that this collapse of the cushions was normal, and that he even needed to have his sofa restuffed within the first month (this completely contradicts what the salesman Luc told us, so which one was lying?). We told him about the backs of the sofa not lining up and he told us that all reclining sofaes have that issue. We sent him pictures of our old sofa proving that his statement was false. On 7/23/12 Doug emailed us and said that he got the ok to exchange our sofa. We responded telling him that this sofa was the only one in their store that we liked, so we just wanted our money back. He responded saying that he wouldn't return it and if we didn't want to exchange it then we'd have to settle for getting it repaired.
On 7/23/12 we filed a BBB complaint against the store. Talsma's responded a few days later and their response basically parroted what Doug told us, that Dacron filling in sofaes is expected to collapse and they claimed we refused to allow them to service the sofa. We never had the chance to refuse service; the parts hadn't even arrived yet!
On 8/3/12 the service department at Talsma's called and told us our foam cores were in and they wanted to schedule a time to service the sofa. So now there's a discrepancy on what needs to be fixed; Doug is saying it's the Dacron filling and the service department is saying it's the foam cores.
The BBB complaint wasn't getting us anywhere, so we decided to go around the store manager (Doug) and try to talk to the owner of Talsma's in the hopes that he'd be more reasonable. On 8/13/12 we spoke to Tim Talsma. We told him everything that had happened up to that point and asked for a refund. He actually had the AUDACITY to tell us that "we could have worked that out but not anymore because you tarnished my reputation by filing a BBB complaint." I couldn't believe my ears. The owner of a large, profitable business was throwing a fit and acting like a child because we filed a BBB complaint against his store. If his employees hadn't lied, and taken proper care of their customers in the first place, we wouldn't have "tarnished his reputation."
We added this information to our BBB complaint and Talsma's never responded. At this point, the BBB has closed our complaint with an "unresolved" tag. They're tarnishing their own reputation by not responding to the BBB report. If they had responded and the BBB thought their response was appropriate, then it wouldn't hurt their reputation. But by not responding at all, that alone is hurting their reputation.

When you purchase a mattress you need more than two days to break it in. The fact they would even take back a used mattress is a kind gesture on their part because they can’t resell it!!!
