Safety issue
- - One swing hanger failed at slow speed with a 35 lb child; four of the other five hangers were severely corroded inside beam, some near 3 mm thick.
6 years ago purchased pioneer kit , last week one of the swing hangers failed , at slow speed thankfully, the child on it 35lbs approximately. Upon inspection and attempted removal of the other 5 hangers I discovered that 4 of those were in serious condition.
All but one snapped off easily . The corrosion was so bad on some they measured around 3mm thickness in the area where they snapped off during attempted removal. The real issue is you could not see any of this, it was inside the beam and the exposed hanger on the bottom showed nothing more than expected surface rust All serious degradation was on the lower parts of hangers. I did manage to unscrew one hanger it was still in fair condition , the other 5 however were very dangerous and scary.
I might add this is my second pioneer kit. I built one 30 years ago for my kids and this one for my grandkids. I have also ordered a new kit from home depot to replace all this swing hardware. These are critical unseen pieces , maybe better metal , anti corrosion, my original did not have these issues.
Better metal for such a critical piece is the right call. I have photo of hangers but do not see ant way to attach it.
User's recommendation: Newer model was made of much better and thicker materials, they already took care of it. Thanks
