Medical error

I'll explain this briefly: I had my surgery on 6/9/2011 at Surgicare of Hawaii and was VERY upset with their service and inefficiency of their staff. After my procedure was done I was transferred to the recovery room awaiting general anesthesia to wear off and be picked up by a family member. I was awaken by their staff with upsetting news .... They told my family that my surgery was CANCELED and that I had gone home earlier that day. My family was in total disbelief that they were NOT informed. So my family had left the facility and headed home. With all the miscommunication being said in the front office, I was in the back Recovery room the whole time waiting to be picked up. At 4:30 pm the staff had realized that they were talking about the WRONG patient, they informed me what had happened and if I knew someone else that could pick me up. (Keep in mind I am still lightly sedated from the anesthesia). Close to 5 pm, I some how got a hold of someone else to come pick me up. I remember feeling disoriented, nauseous, and slumped over in the wheelchair as the nurse was wheeling me out of the facility in a hurry. I had called a few days after my procedure to make a complaint, spoke to Joan Arakawa, Manager Facility. During my discussion with Joan, I was informed if they could not get a hold of my family member, they were going to pay for a Taxi to drive me home. Not a bit concerned that I was vomiting in recovery. Their office hours are 6-5 pm, so they were trying to discharge me as soon as possible . My opinion...... it was the least of their concern to make any corrections of this MAJOR incident that had happened. I had not received any phone call or an apology from their office after the surgery. I had to make the call. I personally work for a large Hospital here on Oahu (in Surgery Department) so I know this type of error is a BIG CONCERN. Overall .... my experience there was a MESS!!!

if you work in a hospital you should be more understanding that occasionally these things happen. we are only human ...

be thankful that you were ok and able to get the surgery you need and thankful you live in a country where this is available to you.

by the way , didn't your family think to call you , to see if you were actually at home ??!

You must be emotionally damaged. Hire a shyster lawyer and sue them for mental anguish, etc. Tell shyster he can have 1/3 of anything awarded, the standard fee.
