Sunshine Subscription Agency - Subscription Review

A nice but rough-looking 20-ish year old boy came with his spiel and I signed up for an NFL football jersey. After reading some bad reviews, I cancelled my check and called the company to cancel my order. The lady I spoke with nicely told me that I did not need to cancel the check and incur a bank fee, because if I sent her the reciept with the cancellation requestshe would send my check back uncashed...which she did. I guess I could have saved the $25 fee.

Sunshine Subscription Agency or SSA (scam)
I just had a guy who knocked on my door and told me he is in a public speaking contest and he needs to win points for the trip to italy. To make it short, the whole time I could tell he is just another sale guy try to sell subscription etc.. but I said to myself let's hope these books will go to children. So I decide to give $24.95 because that what I saw on his receipt as he said I can claim tax later. He was expecting me to give him cash but I didn't have cash so I told him I will give him a check. When I start to write he said $59 I was like no I don't have the money to give you and I only agreed on $24.95. He kept on explaining to me that he won't get bonus points etc.. and I told him you are asking for money and you are negotiating with me?? He told me his sister got in the contest and same as his brother and he will win this time if I help him to get there. After 20 mins of back and forth, I decide to write $44 so he can leave. He left me with a phony receipt and took off fast. Like some of the comments here, he wants cash at first. The whole time while talking to him he smelt alcohol. I asked him but he denied. At this time, I knew I need to shut the door asap. He even said he will put a sticker in front of my house so other won't come to ask me the for the same once they see the sticker (trying to sound legit) As I am writing this, I feel so dumb that I even open the door to stranger. Anyway, I cancel the check. This is totally a scam and there is no website. He told to to check for the contest online. I am so angry of myself for being so naive at this age. I attached a receipt he gave me. His name is on top (must be fake) He wrote my address on the receipt because he said they will send me a thank you card. I can't believe I fall for this but also thing like this is still happening. I am in Southern California btw.

This scam has been around for a long long time. I fell for it over 20 years ago.

don't beat yourself up.

good that you canceled the check. I'd call the company and tell them that this scam is unacceptable and then I'd report to my local police.

Also, don't open your door to people you don't know.

You could also put a sign on your door that says "No Soliciting". We are all busy people and don't need our day interrupted!

Guest

There was no trip to Italy, it's just a ploy to get your money. Sometimes they will say they are raising money for college or have a new baby on the way and need to buy diapers.

They will say ANYTHING to try to get $ from you. Future-going: do NOT buy anything from some random stranger at your door. Tell them no, to leave and not return and then call the police.

These people do NOT have the proper permits to solicit. Also, get on the phone and warn your neighbors.

Guest

I did the same thing. And feel the same way.

Naive, ***. Super mad at myself. I gave $55 for a 2yr. Subscription.

Im praying it comes so i can stop feeling so dumb. I should have known better too.

Guest

Don't feel bad- happens- just keep an eye on your checking account- even though you cancelled the check, they have your routing and account number

Disaster Averted?

So, a guy, African American came to my apartment, he asked for donation of 59 dollars for something that I didn't even pay attention. I did heard that he's studying Journalism and he knew some stuff, related to mine, which, I guess was done to soften me up. I gave the check and took note of the number. As soon as I saw the internet of the scam(s) I immediately stopped the check cash-in after he left, which I assumed he just go to another neighbor to scam or sale again. I did the check null just in case it IS a scam. Sure I had to pay for 25 to stop the payment but it's better than losing more. Also, it's very fishy and the guy stinks too.

The WORST DEAL!!

I have tried to help these kids twice now. I'm either really *** or.... Anywhoo... This last time these two charming guys came, I ended up buying a fishing magazine for my son. They assured me it would be here in 2 weeks regardless of the 120 day wait on the receipt that they handed as they wee walking away. Well after a month, I call to see what's going on with the magazine. The woman on the phone literally said "I don't give a *** what they told you, it's being processed"....um.... They won't let me cancel, nada! So I'm stuck waiting. All I know is in my job, if I lied, or had the pleasure to cuss when I wanted I would be in the unemployment line. Just sayin! Enjoy your day and don't buy from these ppl! They are mean! :)

Possible scam?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
A young woman just came by my house asking me to buy a subscription to help out her organization. I was under the impression the total cost was $12.79 but after I took my checkbook outside, the price has risen to $59. I gently told her I couldn't afford the $59 and she said she'd made that clear but she didn't. Before I offered to pay by check, she asked me if I had cash because she'd get "bonus" points. That seemed odd to me. She wasn't really rude, but I told her to make sure she told people in the future exactly what the amount was before they wrote a check.

Misleading and lies

On Oct 5,2015 I had two guys who said they were college students and were trying to get a trip to Italy for a work study program. (I know a gal that is going the college they said they attend and she has never heard on any such program) In short I bought what are supposed to be a set of four cookbooks for my wife for Christmas. Since it has been over 2 month and Christmas is two weeks away I called to find out what is going on, and the women told me that I won't get this for 150 days (some time in February) and it is not four books but four magazines....when I said I was told they were books the woman I talked to said "books...magazines, the same thing. NOT TO ME..a book is not a magazine. At $15.00 a magazine that is pretty expensive magazines

WAS ROBBED FOR THE SALES PEOPLE IN MY OWN HOME

I was on the phone with my girlfriend when i heard a knock on the door and opened it, there was two girls saying they were selling magazines for school if i wanted to send magazines for the troops so i let them in and was talking to them. One girl did all the talking and the other one very pretty just stood there, after i picked the mag out and gave them the money 55.00 i placed the envelope with my money back in a basket on the counter, they stated talking to me more and saying how cool i was and that they wanted a piece of military cloth or something i gave them one of my name badges on my army bag then they left. the next day i when was getting ready to leave i saw my money was all gone 2800 dollars gone!!! I had the girls names, the company and the managers number. i called up and told them what happen and that there thieves, after i talked to the cops they told me that its been happening alot where i live and nothing they can do. So the sales *** made off with over 2800 dollars of my hard earned money and the company wont admit to employing thieves

Sunshine subscription, whats going on??

I was sitting on my porch smoking a cig when a pretty girl came up selling magazines 4 school. Named Shae soomething..She said something about lots of points and she was winning, and I had to help. I said Okay, what do I have to do? She said it was hot and asked to come in and show me. So i let her. I didn't want one, but after we hung out for a while she was cool. Poor girl was telling me how tired she was, saying she had a mean boyfriend and how glad she was to cheat on him etc. Anyway she told me so much that I started getting iffy. Then she asked if I smoke. What's really going on here? i told her to leave and never come back.

Sunshine Subscription Agency

On October 26, 2007 a young man knocked on my door and said he was selling subscriptions to further his education. I found a set of Disney Princess Magazines and DVD's that I thought my granddaughters would enjoy- as that they are in to anything Princess. I ordered and wrote a check that has cleared the bank the next day. I was told that I would start receiving the magazines and DVD's within 10-12 weeks. Well here it is almost 6 months later and have never received a Magazine or DVD- no response from the company either. This is a rip off!!!!

I also had a young man come to my door back in Feb. saying that he was selling these magazines to further his education and he would not go away so I gave in and bought one.

It was a magazine for my son called Preschool Playroom and the total was $44.

My check cleared 2 days later and now it is the end of April and still haven't recieved a single magazine so I called the phone number that was on my reciept and it went straight to an automated recording so I decided to look the company up online only to find out that it was a scam. I am PISSED and I want my money back!

Ripped off!!!!

On Oct. 6,2007 two men came knocking on my door.

They stated they were selling magazines so they could further their education.

I should have known better as I usually never buy anything from door to door salesmen. But they were so aggressive and so I decided I would order one magazine , "Quick and Easy Crocheting", for the sum of $42.00.

To date, no magazine has been delivered to my address - those bastards ripped me off!!!! How do I go about getting my money back as I understand that the "Sunshine Subscription Agency", is still in business! Freedom is the sales co, and the salesman's name looks like Frickle, hard to make out.

Also circled on the order form is NFSA -National Field Selling Association Membership.

I called company but they wanted me to mail my reciept with signature and date then id get check back....im sorry but no....my checks cancelled please be aware ive read some of these sales men are running from law while others have no clue their scaming u their victims as well. Best to not answer door

The salesman that looked like "Frickle" is Josiph Fricker. I know this because I was a sales agent for this company, thinking that I was doing a job.

I told the truth in my sales, saying it was a contest that took me to the Bahamas and gave me $1,000 if I won. I had no idea people didn't get their orders until it was too late. I had to call the runaway hotline to get assistance to leave from Oklahoma City to Jacksonville, FL (my home). NEVER BUY FROM DOOR TO DOOR SALESMEN, NO MATTER HOW INNOCENT THEY SEEM!

They could be innocent, though. But you will still not see a magazine. I apologize, guys.

You can't get your money back. :(

A young lady and a young man also came to my door trynna raise money for their college education. I subscribed to the seventeen magazine for a total of $52 dollars on October 3, 2008 and have yet to see my magazine.

Today is November 27, 2008.

If you were scammed and got your money back, please let me know how you got your money back?
