  • - I brought the car in for service and battery check.
  • - Starter motor quoted at over $600.
  • - Car would not start and must be towed.

I drove my 4 years old car in for service and battery checking. Because i had two times need to turn key twice to start the car last week.

But it was ok this week. The guy in service told me that I need change starter motor. I said I would think about it and come back when I want to change, since it costs more than $600. After 10 minutes, the guy told me my car can not start at all.

I have to change it or they will push my car out and I have to tow it away.

I have been drove in and out this week with no problem but after I brought my car in and they told me it stopped working completely after I said I need to think about it. And I had no choice , so I have to pay for it.

Fuel pump failure

  • - Fuel pump failed near Clinton, OK on I-40.
  • - 2020 recall to replace the pump; status unclear.
  • - Total outlay: $2,396; pump life questioned.

I recently drove from Ontario Canada to Sonora Mexico in my 2019 Subaru Outback. During that trip I experienced a fuel pump failure just a few kilometers south west of Clinton Oklahoma.

This occurred on the I40/Route 66 on July 2. During an investigation as to why this could have possibly happened I discovered that there was a recall on my vehicle for a potentially faulty fuel pump, and that I recall was issued in 2020 to have this fuel pump replaced. I purchased this vehicle in 2021, and at the time of purchase I was unaware of this recall. Online documentation showed that this recall had been completed, and if this is indeed the case I would very much like to know why a $1,050 fuel only has a 3 year life expectancy?

However, if the original fuel pump was only inspected instead of being replaced (which is my belief) then the recall was not completed at all. This incident left left me out of pocket $2,396 with parts, labour, tows and accomodation.

At the time the vehicle had less than 114,000km on it, and a fuel pump failure should not be occurring at such an early stage of the vehicle's life. I have retained the pump that came out of the vehicle so it can be properly inspected, along with receipts and documentation.

User's recommendation: Subaru North America wants to put an end this fuel pump recall, however recent events is suggesting that others woulf be put at risk by this move.at
