Stewart Beall MacNichols Kenneth Harmell misrepresented me and lies and threatens people
I was compelled to write this report to complain about this law firm and especially this particular attorney. I found another report on this site about this person and it made me even more angry that he did the same thing to someone else and displayed the same behavior. I think the public should know what kind of person this attorney is and I am now certain that there must be others out there who have had similar issues with this firm and/or this individual who may not have come forward for one reason or another....probably out of fear of retaliation from/by them/him. Like the other person who made a report on this site, it could not have been any worse for me to represent myself than to use this attorney as my representation. I did not have the money to pay an attorney, so this firm and this attorney were assigned to me as my public defenders. Just like with the other complainant here on this site, Ken Harmell did not take any time to discuss my case with me and even went as far as trying to publically embarrass me on more than one occasion, by shouting my business across the room when everyone was assembled for a hearing in the correctional facility. He also pushed for a plea bargain, rather than taking my case to trial, as I requested....and later lied to my family members that it was his idea to go to trial, but that I did not want to do that. It was several months before any of the plea agreements were ever acted on because Mr. Harmell did not follow up on anything as quickly as he could have done. He agreed to having my friend act as liaison between us, because it was difficult for me to call him when I was incarcerated. Mr. Harmell had to constantly be pushed to deal with issues on my case and when he did not want to do his job, he threatened my liaison that he would report them to the police and bring them up on cyberstalking charges. This was a huge deterent to my case and because of it, I was not able to communicate with my attorney as needed. To top it off, Mr. Harmell (or the firm) sent a law student to represent me at a critical hearing in my case, so after completing the requirements of the plea and thinking I was moving on to the next steps needed to comply with the court, I did not have proper representation. The prosecutor was able to get the judge to take me back into custody for another year and when I was finally able to get in contact with Mr. Harmell, he wanted nothing more to do with my case. As soon as he was able, Mr. Harmell resigned as my attorney by telling the judge the reason was that he was being cyberstalked. My friend had not contacted him in several months prior to his resignation. I had to hire a real attorney to get a warrant quashed and to allow me to get out on house arrest. I was back out within a month. I would definitely not ever recommend this attorney, or this firm to anyone and it's extremely upsetting to think how many others this kind of thing has happened to. I will also be reporting Mr. Harmell to the Washing State Bar Association for his behavior. I'm not sure what, if anything, will come of it, but people need to know and the public has a right to be warned so that they don't waste their valuable time and get the poor representation that this attorney had to offer. Mr.Harmell....we are not afraid of you and you need to be stopped...sooner, rather than later!

In 2005 I was arrested and charged by the city of Kent (Washington) for Extortion and Harassment. The city claimed that I was harassing them and then tried to extort money from them. Total BS. Kent, Washington, Attorney Ken Harmell represented me in the case. I would have done better representing myself. I notified Mr Harmell by fax and e-mail that I wanted to fight the charges. Mr Harmell soon talked me in to accepting a plea deal. The fact that my father had recently passed away, and my mother needed my help in California, I agreed to the plea deal as long as their was no jail time involved so I could put an end to this and take care of family business. At the hearing Mr Harmell briefly explained the plea deal and asked me to sign two papers. Mr Harmell failed to show me a third page that stated / implied that I was stalking and harassing a child for immoral purposes. The city's complaint against me was for harassment and extortion. There were NO children involved. Earlier this year I requested copies of my file from the city. That was when I saw the third page falsely accusing me of stalking and harassing a child for immoral purposes. I was pist. I sent a nasty letter to the attorney blasting him for this, explaining that I would never have agreed to any plea deal if I had seen the third page with the "stalking and harassing a child for immoral purposes" statement. Ken Harmell denied any wrongdoing and refused to help me fix the situation. Ken Harmell and his company are also public defenders for the city of Kent. My opinion? Ken was over worked and did not want to take the time for a trial. With the exception of a few minutes conference time before each hearing, Mr Harmell never met with me to discuss my case. I was prepared to fight the charges but Mr Harmell talked me in to a plea deal and then withheld info about the deal that could portray me in a negative light. I should have spent the time, and more money, on a better attorney. These are my opinions based on my personal experience with this attorney. I could have ignored this. Chances of anyone seeing my misdemeanor case file from a town up in Washington state are very slim. I just don't want to see others get screwed over with false allegations. I believe most attorney's prefer plea deals to avoid costly court trials. Before accepting any plea deal, please make sure you read every detail, and spend a few extra dollars if you can for a more qualified attorney.

I have been appointed this firm as a public defender for my DUI case.
Over the last two weeks I have been attempting to speak with an attorney regarding my case, and it's just been dragging along. In addition, I have been asking them to see copies of my records and it's been a tedious process with receptionist refusing to disclose any basic information such as actual legal fees, lawyers experience, time at the firm, and so on.
Speaking with independent attorneys these were the first questions I asked, and face time and full disclosure was always granted withing 1-2 days of request.
I am actively looking for another lawyer to represent me for my case.
Because I confronted Ken about him misrepresenting me, and the fact that I was upset, who wouldn't be, and the fact that I filed this report online, Ken has filed a complaint against me with King County falsely accusing me of harassment and cyberstalking. Everyone has a legal right to voice their opinions and file complaints.
This website, and many others, give people the legal right to file complaints. I also filed a complaint with the Washington State Bar Association against Ken.
Attorney Ken Harmell and his law firm, Stewart Beall MacNichols And Harmell, received, and may still receive, a lot of business from the City of Kent as public defenders. Could this explain why Ken didn't vigorously defend me against the city?
City of Kent attorney Arthur “Pat†Fitzpatrick had previously threatened to vigorously prosecute me (via e-mail). In the charging papers by the city it was stated that I was trying to expose secrets.
I'm assuming Arthur “Pat†Fitzpatrick was afraid I'd go public with what I know about some photos. Not one of Ken Harmell's clients ever wrote a good review of Ken at AWO.com, but shortly after I posted my negative review, and after Ken unsuccessfully tried to have the review removed, Ken had clients write good reviews in what I believe is an attempt to discredit my negative review.
Like you two would know the facts. Were you there?

Ken Harmell is one one the best criminal defense trial attorney's in the state of Washington. Anyone who thinks that he would do anything to "avoid a trial" simply doesn't know him.
As an aside, contrary to Very Upset's assertions, City of Kent plea forms have only two pages . . . only one of which requires a signature .
. . oh, and, one last thing . .
. "pist" is correctly spelled "pissed." Just saying.
Mr Harmell is a very honest and exceptional trial attorney. If this person had an issue, it was probably not Mr. Harmell's fault
