Employees with whom I have had negative experience: Avi, Reuben, Jennifer, and Scott.
To whom it may concern,
I do not know if your branches are franchised or owner-operated but I want you to know of my experience with your Norcross, GA branch. I have been dealing with Reuben, Jennifer, Scott, and Avi. Although each of them is not a good representative of your company, Reuben was, by far, the worst of all. Scott convinced me to go with your company by telling me your company does business with honesty and integrity and that I was to be careful of other companies because they would try to scam me. I now realize he was talking about Statewide Van Lines! Using your company has been the worst moving experience I have ever had! I have never filed a complaint against a company before in my life so this letter is an indication of the extremely negative manner in which I was treated by Statewide Van Lines.
Statewide Van Lines picked up my bed, dresser, a half-table, and mirror on 25 May, 2012 from GA and told me delivery would take 5 - 7 business days to CA. 9 days later, my items had still not even shipped from GA! I was told by Avi I would have to pay an additional $500 for packing materials and, as they were treating my bed as 4 additional items, I would have to pay for the additional cubic feet of space you claim my belongings would use. (Update: The packing materials they used were 3 strips of tape to keep my Tempur-Pedic mattress folded in half for the move and bubble wrap around the mirror. A mattress blanket was not used nor was the mirror placed in box. There was no protection for the mattress, headboard, or footboard) You claimed a headboard and footboard and the slats on which the mattress rests in the bed frame (all which can lie flat on the floor or against the wall of the truck) took up so much additional cubic feet that a $500 increase in the moving charge was necessary. Ridiculous! An obvious and predictable way of extorting additional money from customers after you have their belongings. The online form specified a BED, not a mattress. If I was only moving a mattress, I would have specified so. A BED is a mattress, frame, headboard, and footboard.
Avi then threatened to take my belongings back to the house from which he had picked them up. I stated that was not possible as I do not live there. After negotiating with Reuben, I agreed to pay an additional $200. Now, without my knowledge or consent, your company placed my items in an unknown storage facility in CA (Update: I finally received the name and address of the storage facility), when you did not deliver my items to me on the date I was told they would be delivered by your driver (I have a text message from the driver he sent me on 16 June, 2012 stating â€œYes and we are talking Tuesday early morningâ€ confirming early morning 19 June, 2012). I now have to spend more money to hire a mover to move my stuff from the storage facility to my home. According to my attorney (and my contract), that is illegal. The contract specifically states:
â€œThe services included are:
Up to one month free storage (includes redelivery from storage to your new destination).â€
I didnâ€™t even want my items to be placed in storage. Statewide did so without my knowledge or consent but, as it was done, Statewide should be moving my belongings to my home from the storage facility free of charge. As I state above, I had to hire a mover to move my items from the storage facility to my home.
At this point, Statewide still has not even given me the address where my stuff is being stored although I have paid all of the money Reuben told me to pay in order for me to get my items! (Update: I finally received the name and address of the storage facility). I knew this would happen and told Reuben I would not pay until after I had my furniture in my possession. He told me to call him back when I was ready to pay and hung on up me. I then went to the bank and deposited the remaining money in Statewideâ€™s company account. After multiple phone calls and multiple conversations on 20 June, 2012 with Jennifer and Reuben (wherein I was promised the address to the storage facility where my items are being kept), I still do not have the address!!! (Update: See above, and below). I have already filed complaints with the GA Department of Transportation and the Better Business Bureau and have filed a very negative review on Yelp! I want everyone on the web to know about your terrible moving company so they will not be put through this ***!!!!
Update: It is 23 June, 2012. I now have my belongings but your company is now guilty of extortion and coercion. Reuben stated he would not permit the storage facility to release my belongings to me unless I pay either an additional $500 or remove the complaint from the sites on which I filed it and sign a complaint discharge release form promising I would not file a complaint with any agency or Internet site . I signed the release form and removed the complaint so that I could get my belongings released to me.
After I got my belongings from the storage facility, I sent a letter of rescission (drafted by my attorney), to Statewide Van Lines on 23 June, 2012 within the 3-day statutory time limit allowed under law to rescind/cancel a contract. I was forced to sign this letter under duress as Statewide was holding my possessions unlawfully. Now I am re-filing this complaint with all of the sites I previously used (Pissedconsumer.com, Complaints.com, Yelp!, Movers.com, MovingScam.com, etc.), in addition to every conceivable consumer Internet site of which I can think. I will also file a complaint with the GA Attorney General, the CA Attorney General, the GA Department of Transportation, the CA Department of Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and Move Rescued.
Companies such as Statewide Van Lines cannot be allowed to operate with such impunity. They damage the reputations and businesses of honest, reputable moving companies. I pray the various agencies with whom I have filed complaints perform a thorough investigation and permanently revoke the business license of Statewide Van Lines as soon as possible before other individuals and families become victims of the illegal, coercive, extortive business practices of Statewide Van Lines.
