Several years ago I purchased a Bostitch pneumatic stapler SB100SX. I rarely used this tool, recently I had a small staple job and loaded the tool with 1" crown staples. After 2-3 shots the stapler quit working. I then examined the tool removed the head cover and notice...
Black and Decker - Black & Decker story 2 of 5 from JLD - Power Shot stapler
Black and Decker

I purchased a Power Shot stapler in early 1997' or so. It was at the same time I started a large home remodel so really close to then.
It promised a much lighter and easier way to shoot staples and I used it with fine success for some years, about 3 or so. It was easier on my hand for a day of use than my Arrow brand T50 stapler which worked very well. I take excellent care of my tools and used the proper staples in any stapler so both looked perfect and worked well until the Black & Decker Power Shot didn't. I am very mechanical so I opened it up and found the spring fork that gets lifted up and rapidly snaps down to drive the staples had slipped off the PLASTIC rest on one side.
Notice PLASTIC is capitalized. PLASTIC for a heavy spring steel actuator fork. Realize that a stapler has to drive tens of thousands of staples, in a very typical life cycle mind you, with this snapping action design Black & Decker has used. Well this tool got to maybe a thousand staples if that.
I corrected the fork alignment so the stapler would work again but did notice the PLASTIC rest had started to deform on the side that the fork slipped off on. Well as you can guess it would intermittently slip off again and again. Each time I grabbed my older, very trusty Arrow brand model T50 stapler to finish the job.
With the plastic part continuing to deform worse and no affordable replacement part available for the Black & Decker Power shot I finally thru the metal parts in the recycle pile and the plastic parts in the trash. Yet another lightly used Black & Decker tool that I have had fail since I started tabulating my losses with Black & Decker in 1997' or so.

I have shopped at Lowe's rather than other hardware stores for many years. My satisfaction with Lowe's has diminished over the last few years for many reasons, but today they lost a good customer.
In the middle of a project today my staple gun died. I went online to...
