Stannah
Stannah unable to buy direct
Tried to purchase direct from Stannah as per their advert on the Internet.I Didn't find out until the guy turned up to measure for the stairlift that he was an approved dealer and his prices, delivery times and warranty were different to what was advertised on the Stannah website. Stannah should have told me when I made the initial enquiry that I couldn't purchase direct and prices, delivery times and warranty would be different and not as advertised on their web site. I contact Stannah again and I spoken to a few different people at the company but they insisted that I couldn't buy direct and delivy dates, prices etc was entirely up to the dealer.

I have worked on all types of stair lifts for the past 15 years including Stannah, Acorn and others, they all have their issues. Some seem to have a lot more issues than others but i can confidently say Stannah lifts are generally the most reliable design.
It sounds like the first service guy was more the problem not finding the fault, I suspect he was not a certified Stannah engineer?
Avoid Stannah! I spent > $10,000 for my mother's Stannah and it was a disaster.
Forever stranding her on the steps. She couldn't climb out so the fire department had to rescue her each time the stairlift froze. Also the grease of the bottom of the monorail would ruin clothes, get on pets and children, and become tracked through the house on the carpets. Stannah service was terrible.
They never could fix it, just kept replacing the computer. Eventually a Stannah guy from the UK visited and said it was just some crushed wires and not related to the 3 computers we paid for!
If Stannah are messing you about try another manufacturer. There are plenty to choose from Stannah aren't even the biggest, they're just the best known because they spend so much on advertising!
