Speedway Flooring - Told me "*** on you" as I left the store.

I bought tile from a lady named Barbara at Speedway Flooring, AKA Robert Walton Flooring, in Daytona Beach, FL. I arranged for Barbara to come to our house to measure for the tile and give us recommendations on the installation but she never showed up.

We made our own measurements and went to the store and picked out the tile. Barbara figured out the amount of tile we needed based on my measurements and we contracted for one of her installers install it.

The job started badly. The contractor had no idea how I wanted the tile installed and it was pretty obvious that he did not have the tools or skills necessary to install this type of tile. Everyday when he left I had to go in and fix the tile he had installed.

When the job was done I had 14 square feet of very expensive tile left over for a job that was 65 square feet total and extra bags of just about everything used to complete the job.

I took the materials back to the store but I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get much of a refund because it was mostly special order stuff. When I walked in with the materials and set them on the floor Barbara was already pretty fired up and defensive. I couldn't understand why she was so upset. She finally said that the reason I had so much tile left over was my measurement were wrong. They were not wrong but there was no listening. Then she told me that the installer wanted $275 more than she quoted me because of the way I had the tile installed. I tried to talk to her but she just wanted to fight. Finally I'd had enough and I got up and walked out and on the way out the door she said, "*** on you!"

This is the second job they have bone for us and both jobs ended with an awful lot of tile left over. The first job her son did the measurements. My guess is she pads the orders knowing that she doesn't have to give you money back for the extra materials. This tile cost me $23.39 a square foot. Total job was almost $4000 for a stand up shower. I'd say I lost $600 and will have to live with the shoddy workmanship until I get tired of it and do it over.

If you shop with these people make sure your measurements are correct and most important, check how much tile they order before you give them your credit card and use your own contractors.
