Dissatisfied with service

I can only echo the above comments. I met with Craig Welsh in the Netherlands. All of his recommendations (QROPs, investment platforms) made recommendations based on the greatest fees that Spectrum could take. I would avoid them like the plague.

User's recommendation: Avoid at all costs. These guys are crooks.

Terrible Organisation

Barry Davys caused me more hassle and complications than I could have imagined. Please do not use this company. There are other organisations which are properly regulated, and much safer

User's recommendation: Avoid this organisation.

Unregulated Opportunists

Spectrum IFA Group - Unregulated Opportunists
I was approached by a Mr Barry Davys of Spectrum IFA whilst living in Barcelona regarding my final salary pension informing me that Spectrum would invest in and get greater returns . I dismissed the idea however Mr Davys continued to aggressively pursue the subject visiting me 4/5 times and I eventually surrendered my pension over to Spectrum a decision I deeply regret . And so now several years later it has not gained in value due to the ridiculous fees involved from the Trustees and the investment company . If I had left my pension with my employer I would have been 40,000GBP better off . In my opinion Spectrum IFA are a rogue financial company and I would strongly advise to avoid them at all costs.

Spectrum are Not true IFAs

I had a consultation with Spectrum in France. As a former Financial adviser my self I found that they only deal with a very limited range of companies. They are not what I would call a true IFA. The number of companies they have connections with are only around five or six. That severely limits their professional advice. An IFA should have access to the whole range of suitable products. My advice? Find some one else and check how many companies they deal with before investing. Upon asking why they felt they were IFAs I was told that was enough. Not in my book it isn't. I would suggest using a search engine to specify that you require a real IFA

Did you find anyone that is in effect what we'd consider an IFA in the UK? I've spoken to someone from DeVere and while looking for a second opinion was recommended Spectrum, who don't sound much more qualified or any more truly independent. Maybe IFAs as we know them from the UK don't exist in France?

John Lansley

You claim your advisors live in the communities they serve? Why is Mr Lansley, who lives in Nerja, Spain allowed to be your Advisor here in France, and continue to use my Home Address as his office when he has no permission from me to do so as has not been here for 10 months and is receiving mail, including confidential client and individual investment reports on a regular basis. Hardly a professional approach and is a misuse of trust. This, combined with other experiences, I would strongly advise extreme caution in dealing with this person. Unfortunately during the time I have known him, I introduced him to many of my friends and this I regret, as many of them do so as well, some not having met their advisor for 6 months!! Due to the structure of the organisation, there appears to be no way of contacting a head office or a person to talk to therefore you can only contact by E-mail the person you are complaining about! Absolutely hopeless

I invested £52,000 following Spectrum's advice and after 5 years received £51,099. Any interest on the 'investment' had been taken in fees which would have been in the region of £3,000. The statements I received did not explicitly show the fee deductions and there was never any analysis or advice offered as to how the investment needed managing. I really would have been better off leaving the cash under the mattress. Spectrum sales people seem to have little knowledge of what they are selling other than they will be receiving a %age of your investment as a fee. Avoid.

As a result of divorce in 2007 we requested our policies be equalized and placed in separate names. Graham assured that this was possible and I executed the change form joint to individual ownership. Interestingly enough on checking my account “new” account the following day, I ended up with 1/3 of the value and my ex husband ended up with 2/3 of the value! Since 2007 I have tried to get this resolved with Hansard and Graham to no avail. It is now 2013! Recently, (October 2013) in a request for information on accessing my funds I received the following response from Graham: Our servicing relationship with you has been on a voluntary basis (I remind you that we have not been paid for our service as the original policies were not sold by us) and as such we feel that we prefer ending this relationship as we do not feel that we are in any position to help resolve. Incapable, unprofessional, not transparent, patronizing, dishonest, disrespectful, incompetent….is my experience with Graham, Spectrum IFA and Hansard.

I forgot to mention in my earlier comment that Hansard had already drawn up all the transfer forms before any contact was made with myself. In spite of considerable correspondence, telephone calls and e-mails, my company has never asked for or received any remuneration.

The policies were taken out by you long before you contacted me.

Just one last word of advice - I know where the policies are held and that particular jurisdiction has signed an agreement to divulge all information about investments held by US policyholders, to the IRS, from January 2014.

I am prompted to reply to your totally unfair and misleading comment. As I have consistently pointed out to you and your ex-husband since 2007, this is a matter between yourselves and Hansard.

If they did not carry out your instructions correctly, then you should be taking appropriate action against them.

I am not in a position to force Hansard to resolve this although I have, out of courtesy, used my best endeavours to try and help. I am a financial adviser, NOT a lawyer.

Spectrum IFA Group - Wheres my Money???

Update by user Feb 18, 2013

Do not go near Jonathan Cooper at The Spectrum IFA Group!!!

Original review posted by user Feb 18, 2013
A few years back i took out a retirement plan with the Spectrum IFA Group. I was sold it as a Tax efficient plan the would be portable. Since I have moved back to the UK I have tried to get in contact to start drawing down my 'pension plan' but I have heard nothing. When I check my investment online, it can differ by £50,000 on a day to day basis. I also to out a QROPS with The Spectrum IFA Group and in the last 2 years I have seen the value drop by £30,000. The plan is held in Guernsey and was told I could take the plan to the UK and just move it into a SIPPS. The investments in my Pension are not allowed in the UK so I had to sell the funds on the secondary market. looking at everything I was sold, it was expensive, bad advice and has caused me more hassle than it was worth. Do not go near The Spectrum IFA Group, they will sell you exactly what you want to hear, give you the opposite and never hear from then again

In 2007, as a result of a divorce our policies were to be equalized and put in separate names. Graham assured me this was possible. Upon executing the request I find that I have 1/3 of the value of the policy and my ex husband has 2/3 the value. So they botched it big time. To this day Hansard has been unwilling and unhelpful in making things right. Today as I request to switch funds and access a porting of my money I am getting a brand new run around. See the cheeky response to my request for information on accessing my funds:

Our servicing relationship with you has been on a voluntary basis (I remind you that we have not been paid for our service as the original policies were not sold by us) and as such we feel that we prefer ending this relationship as we do not feel that we are in any position to help resolve this dispute with Hansard.

Incompetent, dishonest, misleading, unprofessional, patronizing that is what I call the whole lot of them!

Having called and seen all my clients in the last couple of weeks, I know you are not a client. There are several other reasons why you are not a client, which I am unwilling to go into further via this medium. If, however, you keep insisting that you are then respond with your name and telephone number and we can have a conversation.

Yours sincerely, Jonathan Cooper

Dear Jim1970

I don't think you are a client of mine for the following reasons:

1. You mention you took out a "Retirement Plan" a few years ago, firstly, I have only been with The Spectrum IFA Group for 19 months, and secondly, I have never sold a "Retirement Plan".

2. None of my clients have returned to the UK.

However, please feel free to contact me via The Spectrum IFA Group website.

Yours sincerely

Jonathan Cooper

@PissedConsumer611866

I would hardly expect you to admit your on this website that I am your client after I was treated so poorly!

But I agree Jonathan, when I mentioned 'in the last 2 years' I was being rather vague.

I believe it was around 18 months ago. My apologies for the exaggeration.

I stand by what I said and I am sorry that it has come to this.
