2 for 1 Offer appealed to me. Selected a frame asked for an upgrade to transition lenses for one pair. Agreed to anti reflection coating also on one pair. Paid for upgrade up front.

  • Told to fit a half hour after business hours; manager unavailable.
  • Confusion over paying for 1 pair, polycarbonate lenses, and a discount, plus rude service.

Was told to come in for a fitting half hour after business hours. Was told I only paid for 1 pair.

Apparently I asked for polycarbonate lenses and a discount. One cancelled the other out?? This was all news to me. We talked at length about the second pair before payment was made.

The sales woman, who was also manager/owner was not to be found to clarify matters. The assistant manager was rude and aggressive and refused to listen. She talked over me claiming this 73 year old was behaving like a 4 year old. Turns out that if you get a discount, you don't get the second pair.

I feel like I was the victim of an elaborate scam. Optical superstore have won a new customer.

Lack of communication

  • Collected standard glasses two weeks after the eye exam.
  • Safety glasses not delivered; order cancelled due to discontinued frames; no follow-up.

Purchased prescription safety glasses and ordinary glasses after eye exam and was able to collect standard glasses two weeks later. Told me that safety glasses not yet delivered to store and to contact then in another week, this I did and an appointment was made.

Arrived at store and was told safety glasses not there and when they checked the order for the safety glasses had been cancelled.

When they investigated the reason was the frames had been discontinued. As I had already paid in full they told me that a new range was coming in a week or so and to contact them then, this I did.

An appointment was made and I attended the store only to be told that there was no new range in stock and they would contact me as a matter of urgency to sort it out as the manager was in a meeting. That was thee weeks ago and two months after the eye test and have heard nothing and am now considering legal action for breach of contact and deception

User's recommendation: Avoid company at all costs

Rude, Obnoxious saiesperson

AI Highlights
  • Rude, pompous service from Carol Alsieris at Speccsavers Randwick.
  • Asked about non-reflective glasses for night driving; not told.

I was being attended by young salesperson who was.attempting to answer my question when a person called Carol Alsieris who was pompous, disrespectful and overbearing. I was inquiring about non reflective glasses and said I had no idea you could get non reflective glasses for night driving and asked how much would it cost to order them the next time.

Carol butted Im saying I would have been told about this cos ALL THE CUSTOMERS are told! I wasnt because I didnt ask prior. She went on saying they did me a favour cos they are nice The ONLY so called favour was that they swapped my frames cos the person who helped me choose the original frame was a trainee and did not tell me that they were from the mens section, hence the reason they were so big. I was grateful and did not ask for a replacement but they suggested this for comfort.

I will no longer go to Speccsavers in Randwick. To talk over a young colleague of hers was equally rude. Carol Alsieris need to learn about customer service and etiquette. A rude and pompous person.

Ive never complained online to any store before. This is another level.

Pros:
  • Location
Cons:
  • Rude staff

Preferred solution: It’s imperative that staff like Carol are taught about good customer service…stop being so rude, condescending and pompous! I am extremely upset! Never been spoken to this way by anyone!

User's recommendation: No way will I recommend Randwick

Unhappy customer

AI Highlights
  • Glasses arrived with the wrong prescription and no apology was given.
  • No prescription copy was provided after return; I must re-test.

The first time I shopped with specsavers my glasses came in with the wrong prescription lenses. Luckily I tried them on in the store before leaving.

There was no real apology I had to wait yet again for another pair.

Recently I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and return. After I left I realised that they did not give me a copy of the prescription. I emailed to no avail and called and was rudely told it wouldnt be provided until I had trialed a product.

I checked the law in Australia and it actually says that this is not the case I tried to argue this point with no joy, so now Im forced to go to another optometrist for a re-test to receive this information. Very sketchy.

Preferred solution: Deliver product or service ordered

User's recommendation: Shop around, ask questions up front

They sold me incorrect prescription glasses and will not refund or replace

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • They charged upfront for glasses.
  • The prescription was too strong and caused dizziness.
  • Complaints to directors and HQ were ignored.

I did not realise Specsavers are merely a francise so writing to head office achieves nothing. I had an eye test and purchased 3 pairs of glasses from specsavers in Wellington, Telford.

These were: A pair of everyday glasses, sunglasses for driving and reading glasses. You will be aware they charge you upfront (unlike others). I collected them and said they felt very strong and was told that was because my eyes had deteriorated quite a bit since my last prescription. I tried wearing them and felt sick and dizzy (the day to day).

I returned to store after two weeks and they said I should try wearing them for half hour daily and then build up after a couple of weeks to an hour and so on. I have had glasses for over 35 years and never had to do this before. However, I gtrusted them. Stupidly.

I tried this and as weeks went on thought there was something radically wrong with me. I went to the doctor and told him I felt sick and dizzy and could not see properly. He referred me for a brain scan. I ended up having two brain scans - then finally after mnths and months of complaining the doctor suggested I try a different optitians.

I did (Giles in Oakendale - pay when you get the glasses - no upfront fee) then confirmed what I had said inititally to Specsavers - the prescription was way too strong and incorrect for my eyes. I went back to Specsavers armed with this information and my new glasses from Giles and they said well your eyes must have just got better!!!!!!!! Unbelievable. I wronte a letter of complaint to their directors - no reply.

I returned to the shop to hand deliver a complaint to the directors and said I would be contacting head office. The girl said 'fine, but you are wasting your time they just send it on to us we are a francise'. I wrote to HQ and guess what no reply. Thoroughly awful treatment and no apology or offer to change the prescription and put the correct lenses in my specs.

I am a few hundered pound out of pocket but they will never ever get a penny off me again ever. They are con artists -- that original advice of theirs to wear them for half hour a day was really stupid, they should have done another eye test immediately and rectified their mistake. They refused a refund or to rectify the effor b y putting correct lenses in the frames. I am a pensioner and this treatment really nearly destroyed me, I was depressed at the treatment I recieved from them.

I was telling a woman about it in Dunelm coffee shop and she had a similar experience - they put the right lens in the left part of her frame and the left lens in the right part of the frame - these were for her young daughter and that caused chaos also. I have suffered the stress of waiting twice for brain scan results and tests, had to go to surgery unecessarilly to see the doctor and they will not even apologise. Awful company and non existent customer service. Beware.

In fact beware of anyone charging you up front. In the star rating area below I had to put a one star as there is no option for zero stars - in reality I would say zero stars but this will not publish unless I but a star.

Loss:
$352
Pros:
  • Range of frames
Cons:
  • No reply to letters of complaint
  • Cause huge stress and anxiety
  • Incorrect medical advice

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: Use an optitians that do not charge you up front for glasses - specsavers will not refund
