Excellent product
I just received our second Spa cap replacing our first one that lasted 8 years! This is a well made cover with high quality materials custom made to your spa. The company is easy to work with and very responsive, they remembered us from 8 years ago.

Bottom of cover gets slimy
Within a month after I got my SpaCap cover, the bottom of the cover was getting very slimy. I called to ask the owner to see whether there was a solution.
He said I needed to make sure the filter cycle was on for at least 2 hours twice a day. At that point I couldn't check my settings but the next time I could, I verified that the settings were correct and since I still had slime I called him back. He reiterated that that was the only solution so I tried to do one better: I set the filter cycle for 3 hours twice a day and I left the temperature on all the time, even when I was not there. A month later when I was there again, there was still slime so I called once again and said I was very disappointed in the product and wanted to return the cover.
He said that that was not possible, that all I could do was to return it and try to fight it out with my credit card company.
I checked and my credit card company might have fought on my behalf for 120 days but the guy had strung me out for so long that it was past the 120 days. At this point I think I am out the total cost of the product since I will have to replace it with a new cover.
Horrible product - horrible company
I have had 3 or these and now I'm done. As others have said, you can't get these people on the phone or e-mail without a lot of effort.
I think this is a husband/wife team as you alway get the same gruff answers; it's always my fault it fails. The inner heavy vinyl turns brittle with exposure to cold weather and allows water to fill the bladders. The first time after 2 years, it was due to my using chlorine to sanitize and they suggested copper based Blue, which I did. The second time was after 1 year and due to using shock after each use.
The third time, I declined their offer to make a new SpaCap for full price (they used to do a $300 rebuild if I sent them the old Sunbrella cover). I will not buy a third and urge you all not to buy a first.

Big Problems
We purchased a spa cap for a swim spa. The first year we were in a drought, the next year it rained like crazy.
It filled with water and took us a long time and a lot of effort to find the drain hole and position it to drain. The cap weighs a lot empty but you get it full of 10 gallons of water and it is impossible to handle. Once we got it drained, we followed the instructions regarding water level etc.
Rained again and back to square one. We finally realized that we should water-proof the darn thing.
If the customer service had been any good they would have told us this in the beginning. This guy doesn't know you after he gets your money. We wish we would have read the complaints before we gave him our money. I e-mailed him twice in the middle of this disaster and know response.
I would be surprised if he is still in business.
Main point - water-proof the darn thing and it could be good.

Spa Cap owner is the problem
Great Product, but when it fails do not expect much of a "warranty". My second Cap from them failed after 2 years.
The owner said that my kids must have jumped on it!! Then when I explained to him that this was not possible and sent him pictures of the tub to be covered he said the problem was my spa was too different. We agreed to a "repair" price and I asked for some additional changes to the cover. What arrived was the exact same cover I had the first time.
So becareful as he is very crafty on doing the minimum to cheat you. Also when you place and order and he tells you 3-4 weeks, expect it to be 3-4 months. I think I will start my own spa cap company and just sell to all of his P'Oed customers.
What a shame because the product is intelligent in its design and really can work. Just don't expect it to last more than 2 years and the owner to lie to you about warranty and delivery.

Don't waste your money on a SPA CAP!
Crappiest cover ever; does NOT outlast the others, the membrane fails and it fills with water, the customer service
S U C K S (supposedly I was speaking with the owner.... 'Jeff' via chat), they have no suggestions other than to drain it and maybe put one of those solar bubble covers on it before the water-logged air bag of theirs..... And it stinks! It is very mildewy smelling and takes away the enjoyment of tubbing. I'm going back to a traditional cover now that they make them tapered. Do NOT spend your money here; it is all custom and wayyyyy more expensive for the same duration warranty and snotty service to boot. Why bother?

Beware of Spa Cap Owner
I bought a spa cap and have actually not been disappointed with the cover. When I ordered it I was accidentally charged for a feature I didn't get.
Simple enough, no big deal so I call them back to get a $95 credit for their mistake. I have been calling for 9 months just trying to get the refund due to me but the owner Jeff just ignores my polite requests. His mom Marlis helps him run the business by answering the phones and taking orders but she appears to be powerless to get her son to behave even remotely like an honest business person. He is really foolish because I would have ordered several other covers for the rentals I manage but can't allow myself when he won't even send me the money that he overcharged me.
The way it all has played out, I wonder if he intentionally charges for things he does not provide and then just ignores his customers complaints. Spa Cap: no integrity.

11-1-14
I purchased a SPA cap on 4-6-10 for $695.
After a couple of years the bottom and top of cap was filling with water.
I contacted Spa Cap Marlys Slinger. She was nice person and explained to me that I was not using the recommended water treatment in the Jacuzzi.
I shipped the Spa Cap back to the manufacturer in May 2012.
They replaced the bottom bladder. I had to pay $250.
I purchased the non chlorine water treatment products (Clarity Water Minerals) that Spa Cap recommends.
As of July 2014 I must drain about five gallons of water per week from the bottom bladder. Sometimes there is some water in the top bladder.
I believe that the coated fabric does not hold up when it is in constant contact with the water. It becomes bridle and cracks allowing water into the bottom bladder. I recently purchased a solar pool cover to lay on the Jacuzzi water surface. I then placed the spa cover on top of the solar pool cover. Hopefully this will prevent the spa water from entering the spa cap. Over all after spending about $1000 using the spa cover has been a negative experience. I need to spend more time maintaining the spa and cover and refilling with water then the time I spend in the spa.

Spacap Review from New York City, New York
I bought a spacap so I wouldn't have a waterlogged cover. I spent $850 for this.
In less than a year, I found water in the the bottom chamber. When I called I was told I was only suppose to use 1/3 of the chemicals recommended. I was never told this. The bottom of the cover needed to be replaced.
They told me it would cost $150 and they would pay for the the return shipping of $60.00. It was returned and was too small and did not fit. I had to return it again to be resized. I was told the shipping would be refundeded.
This never happened. After several phone calls and emails I gave up. After 8 months of using 1/3 of the chemicals the cover is dry rotting again.
Stay Away From this Company!!!!! This is a piece of junk.
Spa Cap Performance sub par
I purchased the Spa Cap cover in April 2010for $700.Replaced the bladders May 2012 for $250 due to cracking vinyl bladder. Since then I have been using only Crystal Clean non clorine potassium oxidizer.
It works well to keep the water clear. I have the top and bottom cover bladders inflated completely. About 1 gallon per month must be drained from both top and bottom inside the bladder.
I must scrub a dark ring stain from the bladder every couple of months. Sorry to say that I am not to happy about the performance of the Spa Cap.
Spacap is a bust! Not the best!
I purchased a spa cap a year and a half ago, totally a mess, valves leak, got a skin infection from the minerals they recommend and state are required, so swiched to bromine. I was getting skin infections from their recommendations!
To prevent skin infections you have to use chemicals! This ruins a spa cap. So now I have a $1800 worthless spa cover and had to go to a dermatologist. I was treated with antibiotics and steroids.
Not worth it! I have been thinking about getting a lawyer because they clearly state that you must use minerals!!! How can you produce a product that can not withstand chemicals in your hot tub? It is dangerous and can cause harm by recommending not to use chemicals in your spa?
I can't believe we bought into this scam. Live and learn! Don't buy this without checking this out! They will not honor their warranty if you use chemicals!
If you use chemicals it cracks the underneath and takes on water and the valves fall off!!! Please don't make the same mistake!
SpaCap piece of ***
Purchased SpaCap hoping it would outlast the conventional foam cover, well guest what it didn't hold air after 11 months. I called company to honor warranty and still have not been able to get a return phone call.
Not sure how I ordered as no one seems to answer the phone. Please don't waste your money on this piece of *** cover. It is simple rain out weighs air. After calling for 4 months I gave up and ordered a new cover.
Customer service sucks at the company.
Stay away, I mean stay away. Funny the valves just pulled away from the fine marine grade vinyl.
Spa Cap complaint read it all
Like many I needed a new hot tub lid. I have had my experiance with the foam lids over the years, looked to see if anyone had something better.
I found spa cap. It looked good, made sense and didnt cost much more than a good foam lid, so I gave it a try. Well I have had it going on 3 years now, and it is shot. The first year was fine.
It performed as advertised, had to adjust the air a few times, but nothing much than standard maintenance, of something that is filled with air like that. After the first winter was when everything went downhill. They talk about the seal around the hot tube, ya right, mine still seapted steam out the back side even though I had pulled tight, and froze itself to the hot tub, so I could only roll it off one direction and let it hang there. In the spring I was noticing that I had to fill it with air more and more frequently.
The cap developed holes where it bent the most from rolling the hot tube cover on and off. It was still under warrenty then, and they fixed it, and it worked fine for a while, until it wen through another winter and all the patches came off. So spring comes along again and the rain, and witht he hot tub lid loosing air faster and the temperature changes, it would not stay inflated enough to roll the water off the lid, no biggy, except the fabric no longer repelled water, and started to soak through and hold itself in the lid, until I roled the lid off and removed the excess water and allow the rest in the lid to evaporate out. Thats right, the lid that isnt supposed to absorb water does!
So now that it is loosing air again and absorbing water, and out of warranty, I figured I would do the patches myself and coat the lid with a water repellant to help bead the water off again. Worked for like 10 months, patches are comeing off again, the lid is absobing water again. It has been raining a lot at home with big temperture swings, and the lid filled up with water, by the time it stopped raining and got the extra water off. The lid absorbed so much water, that I could not get it back on.
3 years and this thing is shot, I have had foam lids last twice as long and cost have as much. I followed their instructions, it just didnt hold up to the hype. They will most likely say that I dont have the proper amount of air in it. Well lets talk about that, it is filled with air, that expands and contracts with temperature, so when you fill it in the summer, you have to fill it, so when it heats up from the hot tub and then from the sun, it is not going to have too much air in, and if you are still haveing cool nights, it might cool down enough to not repel the rain, if it rains that night, it will push down the lid and pool, same goes for in the winter.
I have had to fill it so often in 3 years, that the fill plugs have all broken off. It is great for the first year, but after that, it becomes a maintenance hog. I get in my hot tub just about every night, and it couldn't hold up. This would be could for some that has average temperatures, but not for anyone that uses their hot tub a lot and lives where the temperature can swing greatly.
Just like an innertube, it will loose air, and the temperature swing will make it worse. They also say not to run the chemicals to high as it can eat the material, well I run mine with little to no chemical, just enough chlorine to keep the bacteria at bay, and only put it in before we got in the hot tub, so it had time to dissipate, before I put the lid back on. So the holes in the lid are from chracking from the bending, not the chemicals eating it.
I also email them to let them know how dissapointed I am with the product, and no one has yet to contact me. $550 wasted and so much headach.
DON'T BUY A SPA CAP HOT TUB COVER
Spa covers of thick rigid foam gradually get waterlogged and cave in, like mine did. So when I saw an ad for an innovative design at SpaCap.com, I got interested. The Spa Cap is essentially a large air bladder enclosed in a couple of layers of heavy-duty marine vinyl, so it sounds like a promising product.
It is not. Its insulation qualities are close to nil, and worse, the company's got the worst customer service this side of Attila the Hun.
I bought a Spa Cap, and after watching the company's online instructional video, I installed the cover appropriately. From that day, our electric bill skyrocketed. During the previous year, when we used a foam cover, our electric bill averaged $100 per month. With the SpaCap in place, our first month bill was $177, the second was $362, and the third, $571!
Of course, I turned off the tub and phoned SpaCap. I left several messages and then e-mails, and never got a response. I finally reached a woman in SpaCap's office, having possibly caught her off guard. She listened to me and asked me to send them a photo of the installation. I did that the same day, waited a week, and then began calling and e-mailing once again. Finally I reached the same woman. She told me the company's president had concluded I hadn't tacked the cover down with enough fasteners, and he'd already shipped me more fasteners. I'm glad I didn't wait by my mailbox.
I returned the cover to SpaCap, enclosing a request for a refund under the warranty, which covers workmanship and materials for three years. Since it didn't insulate worth a fig, it wasn't a genuine spa cover, so was completely defective. As you might guess, I heard nothing further from them.
If you go to SpaCap's website, a subpage, "R-Factor Testing Results," offers data on the product's insulation capability. The study, done by Dr. H.F.Poppendiek of Geoscience Ltd. of San Diego, CA, seems to suggest that the SpaCap provides about ten times more insulation capability than a rigid foam cover. But if you read it carefully, it's actually incomprehensible.
So I wrote to Dr. Poppendiek, asking what the story was. He replied that something was radically wrong with the information on SpaCap's website. It was not in conformance, he said, with the technical data Geoscience Ltd. supplied. Dr. Poppendiek wrote, "I'm not sure whether someone at SpaCap doesn't understand the data or whether my findings are being misrepresented."
Why did that not surprise me?
The Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org/western-washington/business-reviews/spas-and-hot-tubs-supplies-and-parts/spacapcom-in-lynden-wa-1302****#ratingdetails) gives SpaCap.com the grade of F, their lowest rating. The BBB says there were 41 complaints filed against the company, which failed to resolve or even respond to a significant number of the complaints.
If you Google "spa cap," you'll find websites such as www.doityourself.com, which feature numerous other extremely negative reviews such as mine.
In sum, SpaCap's product is lousy and may actually be fraudulent, and their customer skills are even worse.
