Not all Orthopedics Specialists in this facility are bad. Im talking about Doc.

Murphy who did the arthroscopic procedure to my knee and after the surgery did not want even to see me to check on me. I had very bad experiences with his team as well. Before the procedure he told me not to worry the pain in the knee due to the meniscus tear is going to fade out. I waited for like 2 months and the pain was still there, but I received another bill of $800 to pay where i could see that Dr Murphy performed another 2 procedure that I was not aware of.

Dr Murphy did not tell me after the surgery that he did those 2 additional procedure nor did his team . When I insisted to see him at the next appointment he said he could not ask my permission coz I was asleep during the surgery. Anyhow, up until this day month of Sept. 2021 my pain in the same spot did not lessened at all.He said the surgery was successful but the pain comes for arthritis.

All of a sudden I have arthritis in the knee that I did not have before it appeared after procedure. He suggested a cortizone injection is going to take the pain away at least for a while, which he gave in the opposite side of the knee in the exterior of the knee and not on the interior of the knee where the pain was. Of course IT DID NOT WORK AT ALL! Since he told me he cannot do anything for me any longer, I decided to go back to my orthopedist Dr.

Shirley who recommended me Dr Murphy. On the first appointment with Dr. Shirley, before I even get the chance to say something or complain about the pain he told me in plain English that he is sorry that the procedure done by Dr. Murphy DID NOT WORK OUT for me.

He suggested another cortizone shot as opposed to a gel shot intra-arrticular. And that one he gave me in the same place like Dr. Murphy in the opposite side with same NO REULTS no pain relief. I went back to Dr.

Shirley for the intra articular gel injection and he wanted to put this injection in the same spot where he put the cortisone injection on the opposite side of the knee that has nothing to do with the interior side of the knee where the problem is. I said why would he put the intra articular gel injection in the leg instead of as it is to be intra articular. He said he does not like to do on that side and I have no right to tell him how to his job and its going to be either I agree for him to put in the leg telling me the. gel migrates all over the knee OR he will not do it.

So I said ok ...No problem Im not going to pay for an injection that I know from the start that is injected in the wrong spot and of course its not going to work. So I requested a refund for the price of the injection an I have been told that Dr.

Shirley does not want me in there any longer. So you readers judge on your own.

Zero customer service

This office (Fleming Island, Jacksonville) is nothing short of a butcher shop. It is a money making machine. I was told to come in 45 minutes early for paperwork. I was not called in for an hour and forty-five minutes for the paper work. An x-ray is taken whether you need it or not. I tried calling the office, but no one responds to your calls, especially the Billing Department. I have been waiting a whole week for a call back. They do not have an option to cancel an appointment or talk to a live person at any time. They cannot blame it on the Coronavirus for the lack of customer service since their office is packed even in the hallways.

User's recommendation: stay away.

Absolutely no response by managers to phone calls all day.

Needed Celebrex new RX as old one expired. Was informed by pharmacy that RX was DENIED. The TEAM that denied it is the worst team there and I have since changed teams. However, someone at the clinic should have seen all the physicians I have been to and the years I have had them as my doctors and had someone renew this RX. It isn't like it is a pain pill … just arthritis pill.

User's recommendation: Do NOT even go there. They just want $$$ and won't return phone calls or fill prescriptions.

Calling center

Trying to reach certain departments is very difficult when you are switched from one recording to another it needs to be addressed asap otherwise it causes confussion and the relationship with staff is on pins and needles communication one on one is the best, the right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing I think an email system would improve relations and cut down on confusion on the phone. The staff in person are much better at reception

SEO, specifically Duffy and his team (PA's Diane & Chunky) HORRIBLE! Arrogant, do not listen, do not follow up, extremely quick to recommend surgery.

When in hospital awaiting my surgery, heard from hospital staff that he does more surgeries in a week than any other ortho - should tell you something! Steer clear - go to Mayo instead.

Would not recommend

This is the practice I had surgery scheduled with next month. They recently sent me to Optimal Imaging for a guided epidural shot in my spine. When I got the bill I was floored. Seems because they are affiliated with St Vincent's healthcare they charge hospital rates. What would have cost me under $300 at a doctors office ends up costing me $1,542. Guess who else is affiliated with St Vincent's? That's right, Southeast Ortho. I do not believe they were not aware of the difference in billing. AND, this is after having to pay the government 4.5 million last year for improper billing practices. Have they just found another way to make more $? It is shameful. After further investigation I found plenty of dissatisfied patients of my surgeon as well. Needless to say, I have cancelled my surgery and am in search of a new office. This one seems to have some moral issues.

Avoid Dr. Kevin P. Murphy and Dr. Gavin P. Duffy of Southeast Orthopedic (SE-ORTHO) of Jacksonville, Fl for any orthopedic Injury related surgery.

I'm writing this complaint about Doctor Kevin P Murphy and Doctor Gavin P Duffy of Southeast Orthopedic Specialist of Jacksonville, Florida because of several different occurrences and observations I’ve made over the past several months dealing with my Shoulder injuries and the other orthopedic injuries of family and friends. My complaint started several months ago when I went to the Emergency Room at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville Florida. I visited the ER after I had a personal injury to my left shoulder during a company sponsored flag football game.I knew immediately my shoulder had to be injured because of the pain, but I didn’t know exactly how bad it was until later that night. Due to that pain I was experiencing in my shoulder, I didn’t realize my knee had suffered any damage until I was home and sitting on the couch. My knee started hurting and it felt like someone was stabbing me in the side of my knee with a knife. At this point I knew I had to go to the ER.After visiting the Emergency Room at St Vincent’s Hospital and having some X-rays taken, I was told nothing was broken and that I may have a rotator cuff issue. I was instructed to Ice both my Knee and my Shoulder and set a follow up appointment with Southeast Orthopedic Specialists (SE-ORTHO).I was referred to see Doctor Kevin P Murphy for both my shoulder and my knee. I was told not to worry because he specialized in Shoulders and Knee Injuries in Jacksonville. After setting my appointment, my first observation that bothered me was when I was sitting in the waiting room. Their office appeared nice and comfortable at first glance but upon closer examination the furniture was dusty and the magazines were dirty and old which made me wonder if the rest of the clinic was dirty too. If the furniture is dusty that means it hadn't been wiped down every day like a Doctor's office should be to keep germs down. The waiting room, examination rooms and bathrooms should be sterilized daily at any type health facility that's just common knowledge.I arrived at my appointment 15 minutes early to get paperwork completed and verify my insurance was active and to pay my co-pay. After an hour and a half past my appointment time, I was finally led back to a small typical room with no windows and just a door, sink and a medical exam table. As I sat there alone waiting some more I remember thinking to myself "Am I witnessing the side effects of Obamacare?"I started getting nervous on top of being frustrated so I tried to calm myself by rationalizing what I was experiencing by thinking maybe they are just shorthanded this week.It was another 15 minutes and Doctor Kevin P Murphy MD shows up and asks me a series of questions and recommends I have an MRI done on my shoulder and knee. It took over 1 week to get a referral to get an MRI facility and then 3 more days for Advanced Diagnostics (the MRI Company) to fit me in. I finally got my MRI results back and by now I’ve been injured over 2 weeks and it took another 4 days to get an appointment to see Dr. Kevin P Murphy. Here is where my shoulder injury situation went from bad to worse. Apparently at Southeast Orthopedic Specialist (SE-ORTHO) they don’t schedule their doctor’s vacations around the medical needs of patients. I understand this but it is disturbing when the bedside manners of the doctors are so completely different. I could tell within the first 3 minutes in the exam room with Doctor Gavin P Duffy of Southeast Orthopedic Specialist in Jacksonville, Florida that the doctors in this practice have an internal rivalry and competition of some sort but wasn’t clear as to what the "game" their competition was over. Doctor Gavin P Duffy sensed I was nervous due to my line of questions about the clinic and where Dr. Kevin P Murphy was and why I had to spend my time going over all the same information with a different doctor.Dr. Gavin Duffy decided to go over his education and was proud to have studied in Ireland. He discussed his experience level and clinical qualifications and went on to say he does more surgeries that most of the other doctors. (I instantly felt uncomfortable)I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Was this Doctor, specifically a Personal Injury Orthopedic Surgeon, bragging that he had "Cut" more people in a year than most surgeons do in a few years? I think he was trying to impress me with his high surgery rate but it actually did the exact opposite. By nature I am a trusting person and love the connection with other humans, but this guy gave me bad vibes. First we had not determined if I was a candidate for surgery and no one had reviewed my MRI results. I Mean come on at least look at my MRI before telling me that I needed surgery. In my mind I am thinking... does this guy have x-ray vision? Why is he telling me how many people he cuts? I am thinking he knows something about my injury he isn’t telling me. I ask him to explain himself and he admitted he had not reviewed my MRI yet because he was over worked covering for Dr. Kevin Murphy and dealing with his own patients too. This led me to believe that surgery was already in his mind for the solution to my orthopedic injuries without really discussing my options first. I've been in pain for 3 weeks now, and had been recommended to this clinic by the Doctors at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Riverside area of Jacksonville, Florida to go to Southeast Orthopedic Specialist. I decided to trust Doctor Gavin P Duffy to proceed and schedule me for an appointment to review my MRI results and see what damage was there. My knee seemed to be doing better but my shoulder still had sharp pain. I am a young adult American male 28 in excellent shape. I surf, play sports and lift weights on a regular basis, so overall relatively healthy. I don’t smoke or do drugs, an occasional beer but overall good health and in good shape. When I heard the word surgery I was instantly thinking about all the things I do in life that I would not be able to do again and became nervous about the quality of life I would have. I left the Southeast orthopedic clinic office in Jacksonville Florida thinking that I needed to do more research on the injury and the history of Dr. Gavin Duffy. Obviously the first thing I did was google shoulder injuries and watched videos and read every article I could find about the shoulder and the parts of the shoulder. If I was going to be faced with surgery for the first time in my life I needed to have more details on what I was facing. It did seem like a routine surgery and not as many complications as a transplant or other "Major" surgery. I admit I felt a lot better seeing that it was a common orthopedic surgery. I did read about the risk of infection with any surgery and remembered the dirty chairs and dirty lobby that SE Orthopedic specialist had in their clinic. We expect a clean environment in and orthopedic doctor’s office, or any doctor’s office for that matter.I continued to investigate further as I was on a timeline now and had to research shoulder surgery and orthopedic procedures and try to find some actual patients who would give me their real life experience. So with the age of technology and Social Media, I asked by connections for recommendations and any help or input they could share. What I found out was next to horrific and downright scary and ultimately the reason I decided to write this on pissed consumer. The more people that I spoke to the more issues I uncovered.I discovered that many of my friends had been to this clinic and had actually been in their words "the victim" of Dr. Duffy at Southeast Orthopedic specialist. Four of the their past patients that I spoke to had gotten an infection from a surgery that Doctor Gavin Duffy performed and one of those is currently seeking legal action against the SE-ORTHO clinic and Dr. Duffy.I researched Dr. Duffy further and turns out he was right graduated medical school in Dublin Ireland but didn’t even go to school in the United States which I saw as another warning sign. I tried to find reviews but the ones I could find weren't much help.Another Warning sign these guys are not trust worthy. The southeast Orthopedic group recently added another doctor to their list who claims to be a "Trauma" specialist Named Doctor Farid Hakim MD. The research on him shows he is a general orthopedic surgeon and doesn’t have the experience he claims to have. He was brought to their group to develop the trauma department, yet he has no record of having done a trauma fellowship. The Clinic's website www.se-ortho.com has him listed as a trauma specialist and as far as the health department records indicate he spent the last 20 years working locally as a Doctor, but not performing any trauma related surgery. I do not think Doctors and other professionals should be allowed to put "False advertising and fake Profiles". The information they put out that is not true and should be considered misconducts and an ethics violation. This whole organization seems to have ethic issues. These guys used to all work together in Jacksonville Florida under the name Heekin Orthopedic institute. I spoke to a woman who used to work there,( who asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons)and the rumor is that Dr Heekin was tired of these other doctors ruining his good name and reputation and left and took his name with him and told the "Bad" doctors that they needed to get their own business name and start their own practice. While doing my research I came across another group of orthopedic surgeons who I made an appointment to get another opinion on my shoulder and to see if I needed cut. Keep in mind I’m over 3 weeks into the injury and recovery process. The new doctor looked at my MRI, had me do some physical testing and asked me a series of lifestyle questions determined that I had two options. I could do the surgery but with no guarantees of being able to still do some of my physical activities to the same level or option two was to try physical therapy and strengthening the affected muscles, ligaments and tendons.I chose option 2 the rehab. I have been very happy and recovered what seems to be 100% without the need to be cut or open my skin to outside infection or any other post-surgery concerns. In conclusion to this event happening to me in my life, It has opened my eyes to the realization that there are doctors out there that are more interested in billing your insurance company for as much as they can by performing unnecessary surgery as the course of treatment rather than what may be best for you. During my research I discovered that there is a dentist name Dr. Snyder who has multiple lawsuits pending for pulling out almost all of small children's baby teeth when only one was bothering them and billing Medicaid. If you have had an orthopedic Injury in Jacksonville, Fl. and it requires surgery please do yourself a favor and get a second opinion. If you have that feeling something isn't right, It most likely isn't especially at SE-ORTHO

Apparently this person has no real idea about Orthopedic Surgery or the doctors she is speaking of. I worked with Dr.

Gavin Duffy prior to his association with Southeastern Orthopedics, when he was the Revision specialist at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. He is an amazing surgeon, and yes, he is from Ireland. Also, Dr. Kevin Murphy is the absolute first person I would go to for a sports related injury.

He does an amazing job, as I see with my own eyes - I work in the operating room. I would send ANYONE in my family to him, hands down.

Good luck to you in seeking out care elseware in Jacksonville. I have no idea what the dust comment is really about, it does not seem to be there when I have walked up to the office at any time.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! I will have to say that my 31 year old son had a good experience with Dr.

Murphy years ago. I have been with my 85 year old mom through 2 knee replacements with Dr. Duffy. The first went well and the second she almost died from infection.

I'm seeing an orthopedic doctor for my knee right now and it isn't this group ! I'm sure he's a very good doctor but not for me.

#1355255

I'm always amazed at the range of opinions among people. I saw Dr.

Duffy for several years for my knees. He did not push me to have surgery, although I had a second and third opinion of my condition and all three doctors agreed that the eventual outcome of my case should be knee replacement. After treating the symptoms of my case for four years, I accepted the need for the surgery and had my knee replaced. I followed the doctor's orders to the letter and had a wonderful outcome.

My second knee is now nearing the time for replacement and even though I no longer live in the Jacksonville area I am considering returning to have Dr. Duffy perform the surgery.

Everyone I spoke to before and after my knee surgery spoke very highly of Dr. Duffy.

Both patients and other medical personnel who were not associated with his practice used the words "the best" when referring to him. I recommend him highly. While I can't guess why someone else might end up with a different opinion, I recommend that anyone facing surgery who has the option, spend time researching.

That might include seeing more than one surgeon to compare. I did and I was very happy with the process and the outcome.

Yes. Scam artists!

Anyone else see their fraud conviction? Had to pay 4.5 million for scamming medicare.

#1238228

They are scam artists and just keep you coming back to rob you of your money and they don't do anything for you.

Very helpful and enlightening review. Sorry for your experience, but thank you for sharing it for others. I was just looking for reviews on a Southeast Doctor and now question my decision.
