Jams are now spreads
- - Smucker's changed the formula to less sugar and now labels it a spread.
- - The product is labeled orange marmalade type spread and tastes different.
When I brought home a new jar of Smuckers marmalade and tasted it I was shocked. Ive been using it for years and suddenly it tasted different.
Boring would be my opinion. Then I noticed the jar said orange marmalade type spread. I called Smuckers and employee didnt know of this change. Eventually customer service wrote explaining they had made a slight change to formula with less sugar so now have to call it a spread.
Reality is the content label shows a higher amount of sugar!!
In response to your inquiry, we recently made a small formulation change with our Pure Jam products, specifically lowering the sugar content.
In doing such, the product no longer fits the CFIA standard of identity to be classified as a jam, but rather a fruit spread. Aside from this update, the product itself is the same high-quality youve come to expect and enjoy.
Anyone looking for the same Smuckers taste will be disappointed.

Avoid. They take no responsibility for a potentially dangerous situation. They blamed everyone but themselves, and then tried to send courtesy coupons to try and satisfy and end the situation
Purchased 2 jars of JIF Smooth Peanut Butter from Amazon, when I opened the first jar, there was no seal, and a scooped line thru the top of the peanut butter, someone had taken a taste, checked the other jar, that was sealed. Contacted Smuckers, and they took zero responsibility for this, saying as soon as it leaves their factory it has nothing to do with them, they tried sending a couple of dollars in courtesy coupons, but I refused, once I accept compensation, there is nothing else I can do. Disgusted in this company, will never buy from again
