AI Highlights
  • - Loyal customers report declining meals and worse service.
  • - Menu items can't be ordered and they close at 3 p.m.
  • - Gravy is salty; bacon is hard.

My husband and I have been going to Shoney's 2 to 3 times a week for a very long time. But lately, we have not gotten the quality of our meals, and customer service has been extremely bad!

I do not complain very much, but when the food is not good and the customer service is even worse than the food, it's time to let someone higher up know what is going on in their restaurant. When we were there today, my husband always gets the buffet, and I usually order off the menu, but today they said they were not taking orders off the menu. This has been happening a lot lately. They are only open until 3 p.m.

during the week, and the gravy was so salty we were not able to eat any of it. The bacon was so hard we couldn't eat it either. We mentioned that to the waiter, but he said that there was no way it could be salty, and they were extremely rude and hateful, so now my husband says we are not going back. I have had total knee replacement surgery just a few weeks ago, and we always go to Shoney's after my therapy 2 to 3 times a day.

I don't know what the problem is, why they don't let you order off the menu, but it has been a very long time. I don't like complaining, but this is enough, especially when not only the waiter was getting mad and yelling, but so were the other people refilling the buffet.

Refused seevice

AI Highlights
  • - Refused service because the service dog wasn’t wearing a vest.
  • - ID and certification were shown but denied.
  • - ADA does not require certification or a vest.

I was refused service because my serví animal was not wearing his vest, I do carry his certification and identification card with me and immediately volunteered the ID. Yet was told no not without a vest.

I ask for a manager and they sent out Keith, who by appearance isnt a manager but likely a shift leader. However I ask him for service and was again denied service. Im not one for law suits but I am for educating those who need it. Can a Restaurant Ask For Proof of Service Dog?

If a customer comes into your restaurant, can you ask for proof of a service dog?

The answer is no. Neither you nor your staff can ask a disabled customer to show you their service animals certification. The ADA does not require an animal to be officially certified to be considered a service animal as long as they can perform the tasks a disabled person needs, are housebroken, and can be controlled. Under most circumstances, a disabled person is also not required to carry their certification papers with them, so the likelihood of them having it with them while they dine is minimal.

There are two questions you may ask a disabled customer about their service animal:

Is the animal a service animal required because of a disability?

What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?

The customer can only be turned away if the animal is just an emotional support animal, therapy dog, or pet.

You may not ask the customer what their disability is or to see the task the animal has been trained for.

Any further questions or entry restrictions can lead to ADA violations.

Do Service Dogs Have to Wear a Vest?

No, service dogs do not have to wear an identifying vest, collar, or backpack while they work to indicate that they are a service animal.

Do Service Dogs Have to Be On a Leash?

Service animals will typically be on a leash or in a harness but this is not required as it could interfere with the task they are trained to perform. If they are not wearing a leash, the owner must be able to maintain control of the animal through vocal commands, visual signals, or other training techniques.

  • - I asked to sit in a section at Shoney's on Donelson Pike.
  • - The blonde manager spoke to me in front of two parties and followed me to my car.

Today i went to shoneys on donelson pike and when was asked about my party i asked to sit in a specific section. I can understand being short staffed but the way the blonde hair manager lady talked to me in front of 2 other parts was appauling.

Once the 2 parties before me left i decided to leave as well. When walking out the door the blonde manager lady followed me to car saying i was gonna seat you come back inside your meal will be on me.

She did that to one of the parties before me as well i advised her to have a good day. But that is no customer service and managers shouldnt be following customers to their cars cause they screwed up

FOOD POISON

AI Highlights
  • - Breakfast bar tasted like it was from the fridge.
  • - Vera was unhelpful and suggested waiting for lunch.
  • - They won't return due to health concerns.

I purchased the breakfast bar to go and got home and the food tasted like I had gotten it out of the refrigerator. I called and spoke with VERA who was no help at all.

She advised me that I should have waited for lunch because it was around 11:40am, but if I want breakfast and you know that it's been sitting there and should have been thrown out why serve it to the customer? Well I'll NEVER go back there. I been twice in 15 years and it will be another 15. PEOPLE IT'S GETTING HOT AND I HAVE BEEN CHECKING OUT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENTS RATING YOU BETTER DO THE SAME.

I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE STOPPED EATING AT SHONEY BECAUSE OF FOOD POISON SYMPTOMS. WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN BEFORE I GOT SICK.

They have not yet to get intouch with me

Original review Feb 15, 2025

My mom and I went to a bar for Valentine's Day and were told she couldn't have her walker in the booth. We were going to leave, but they wanted us to stay, so we sat down and they took her walker away.

I had to get her plate.

The food was cold, and I think it's discriminatory to bar disabled people from having their walker. We will not be going back ever.

  • - Greeter polite; server ok; manager rude about T-bone tasting like vinegar.

Shoneys Manager Review from Spencerport, New York

Shoneys Flatwoods WV.

Went there on a tues. afternoon about 3. The greeter was polite, server was ok, Manager was an absolute *** when I complained about the tbone special taseted like vinegar. She said to me "its the A1 sauce" I didn't use A1, "then it must be the spice you put on" like I carry around a f×÷π®g spice rack with me. She assured me the meat wasnt maranaded in vinegar or anything. I asked her if she ever tried it? "Im a vegetarian" she said rudely.

On top of that the buffet food was bland & tasteless. The only upside was the salad bar was good it had a limited selection but the ingredients were fresh

To make a long story short, the food is lackluster at best, the service SUCKS, the customer is wrong, & the music is so loud you feel like youre in a night club, and thou you complain no discount offered.

A Waste of $20.00
