On July 24,2019 our almost new low mile SUV was hit from the rear by two pickups in a construction zone on I-44 in Joplin,MO..My wife went to the emergency room.The vehicle was badly damaged but driveable...

The next morning (Thursday) I contacted our local Shelter agent about the wreck..The next day we were contacted by a Shelter claims adjuster whom was to be there on Monday..We waited all day Monday and nothing...We waited all day Tuesday and nothing...We finally got a call Tuesday evening to reschedule and the claims agent finally came on Wednesday afternoon...We wanted the car totaled..At the time of the wreck it was worth $26,000.

Things drug on for 4-5 weeks and the last I heard from our claims agent was that our SUV was offered at auction to the rebuilders and that the bids were poor because it had frame damage...All of the sudden we had a new smart *** claims agent Dakota Reeves that said he was fixing it no matter what because we drove it home-etc..

Well, the GM strike came along and we lost the use of the SUV for over 4 months. After 7 weeks and a $4,000 rental car bill we turned it in and bought another new SUV...We planned to sell our wreck repaired one....Our wrecked SUV had over $11,000 in damage and spent almost 2 days on a frame machine.,Everyone that looked at it in the body shop said it should have been totaled including a claims agent from another company..

After getting our wreck repaired vehicle back we immediately took it to 3 GM dealers we have done business with. The one we bought it from new picked it apart and said it was now worth 40% less..The door jam gaps weren't right..They would not take it in trade..They ran a Carfax and much to our shock it was listed it as being totaled.The same day two more GM dealers looked at it...They said it was untradeable and was worth 40% less...

Two used car dealers looked at it...One valued it at a 45% loss and the other a 35% loss..One offered us $10,000 for it.

We had the local liscense agent call the DMV at Jeff City,MO to see the status of our wreck repaired vehicle..It was shown there as a total loss and that the owner had retained it and had to retitle it as prior salvage.We think our first claims adjuster totaled it and was either fired or quit...We contacted Shelter and told them that they owed us a new SUV..It was in our insurance if totaled before 12 months or 12,000 miles we got a new vehicle..They basically did nothing for 2 weeks...I then called the Jeff City DMV and much to my amazement there was no record of our car ever being totaled nor of a phone call from the local DMV agent..Shelter must have someone on the inside to take care of things..

It took almost 4 weeks to get it off Carfax as being totaled..We then offered it for sale at $17,500 and after 4 weeks there was no interest...So we lowered it to $16,000 and it sat another 4 weeks with no interest..Finally some of our neighbors took a chance and bought it...7 months after they bought it, it was broad sided and totaled with $8,400 in damage..The driver had no insurance or liscense..

We lost $10,000 on it but Shelter said that the companies that hit us would pay for diminished value which was a lie..The 2 insurance companies at fault offered nothing at the start and finally after 2 years we are up to a $3,000 offer which is a $7,000 loss..What a joke..

I had been with Shelter for about 50 years total and they threw us under the bus..Stay away from them.If I could give them no stars I would..

Preferred solution: Shelter could have went to bat for us instead of throwing us under the bus and giving us back a shoddy repaired vehicle that was shown as totaled on Carfax worth 40% less..We are no longer with them.

Ive had car insurance through Amshield (part of the umbrella company) for 4 years. Today I tried to renew my registration with the DMV. Im told I have current insurance, but Im showing no coverage from March 2020 to August 2021. What? That cant be right. I switched out my insurance card last week, in the car, I saw it. Apparently, Amshield NEVER TOLD THE DMV I WAS INSURED. My car has been suspended for 18 months. Because these *** didnt do their ONE job.

My daughter is going through a nightmare experience with Shelter Insurance. She had a tornado to do excessive damage to her mobile home and outside fence. The tornado was so bad a neighbors house was completely demolished. The adjuster, Sonya White, very uneducated as to what she was doing, came out and spent less than an hour looking at everything. The insurance does not want to cover the repair of the fence nor the repairs to her mobile home. The adjuster is very rude when she talks to her. Why pay for insurance when they are not going to be there to help you in time of need.

So far we have been completely ignored . They have not reached out but they did change the app to check my policy on line. The part that read 100% replacement on personal property is no longer there. I k ow we are just an elderly couple that they are hoping kicks the bucket so they dont have to deal. But I will give them another month then go to a lawyer. We have pictures to back up our claims.

Correction: I worked for Allstate for 9-10 years, and lemme tell you Shelter ppl…. you do NOT do business like Aaron Luan did.

I signed up with auto insurance with Aaron Luan in Grand Junction Co. To my understanding when you sign up with a insurance company you are locked into that price until renewal. I had the insurance on my car and my grandson's. for 1 month. and the next month the rates went up over 100.00. I told the agent that this was ridiculous, and agrued with him. he told me if I take off my grandsons car it would be a lot cheaper.. (what kind of agent says this?) I told him to cancel the policy ASAP. next thing I know, im getting 2 bills in the mail from a collection agency for $60.85 each. no original bill, no phone call no nothing,,,, directly from a collection agency. this is BS is this how Shelter really works? wow! I have never in my life experienced such service as this. shame on me for thinking shelter was a good company. my policy was under Julie Hickerson/joey segura. I have expressed no good things about this insurance. I worked for Allstate for 9 years.. this was NOT good business.

I dont have this insurance but was hit by a lady that did, and I cant get any0ne t answer my calls. The body shop finally got to talk to someoneand send the estimate to them. after about a week or so he got email about them sending check and they would pay for rental car but the still wont answer my calls I wanted to make sure checi was mailed to correct addressl It should be send to Mildred Rose, PO Box 31, Campton, Ky 41301 if not it will be returned and I will have another delay. I had insurance with them for many many years. I had insurance on six vehicles and maintain a good driving record. A car ran into the side of my truck when changing lanes. The police reports stated it was clearly the other persons fault. I had my shelter insurance adjuster handle the process through subregation. The other insurance company was Farmers and they agreed to accept responsiblity and pay. However, my shelter adjuster stated that they would not pay the extra labor charge to repair aluminum even though Farmers said they would. It ended up costing me 1200 dollars out of my pocket because the Shelter adjuster wouldnt pay as they should have. I dropped all of my vehicles from Shelter after being a customer for over 30 years.

My husband had a rebuild 440 dodge we only claimed 1800.00. They said he could get a rebuilt 350 on eBay for 500.00That is like comparing apples to oranges

Example I hade a Samsung French door side by side I paid over 2200.00 for they gave me 800.00. Don’t think that will replace my fridge when I get a house

We paid for 100% replacement if anything ever happened well something did happen house burned down . They paid quickly and fairly on the buildings but personal property was another story. We paid full price for high end appliances and lawnmower, and they give us market value not what it will cost to go replace what we had . Oh, if I come up with the money to go replace 52 years of things and send them the receipts over next 3 years they will reimburse some of the cost. We saved to buy what we had did not go in debt. Now we will never replace most of the personal property because we wont have enough money to do so. Before we worked now are retired I guess it is easy to rip off the elderly.

on 7-26-19 we had a house fire,i believe i left the stove on,it was a bad fire the whole roof is gone no kitchen one bed room floor had fell in to the crawl space,also several layers of brick have heavy smoke damage, fire dept broke out every window by the way the f/d did an awesome job,it has been 90 days since the fire shelter has done nothing for us i keep getting the run around they did not even offer any monies up front for housing and other items needed for every day life,now they want to bring in an engineer to say its a total loss,i live in illinois and we have had several rain storms the whole house reeks of nasty smells and crap growing in side of it,so now im fighting with them to get living expense funds this is a bunch of b.s i paid my premiums every year only to get treated like *** on the bottom of their shoes,DO NOT TAKE SHELTER INSURANE, any more info feel free to txt me 309-275-**** wayne t

I was hit in my car, which was subsequently totaled by a Shelter insured person. The one star is for the rental car I was given for 3 weeks. My incident occurred on August 13, and as of today, the claim is still not finalized. Most recently, today I returned a call form the Title Procurement Department at CoPart, looking for the title to my totaled vehicle. The Shelter agent assigned to my claim, advised me to put the signed title in the glovebox when we released the vehicle to CoPart. CoPart commented today that it is usually not the case for the agent to do that, as they were looking for the title in the signed documents I returned to them. Lots of confusion with this claim Six weeks post wreck (half of which I have not had a car), and no compensation yet. I would not recommend Shelter Insurance.

a few weeks ago i left a horrible review and i spoke on the phone to my adjusters supervisor and i gave him an ear full of bad my claim is been handled,i was so pissed off at the world and yet he allowed me to vent to him,my issue started with a home fire that destroyed my home,i explained to them that from the start of the claim i believe i had left my stove while boiling eggs when i left the house, in the same week i had a stroke and was put on disability from work i do know now why it was taking so long to resolve my claim,and i apologized to the whole team working on my claim,mt ajuster eric has been very kind and understandable why i was so angry,none of my anger was their fault it was mine to deal with,at this time i cant say anything bad about them i will continue using shelter insurance for my needs,

I thought Shelter Insurance was great until I filed a claim

I have had Shelter Insurance for my car and home for decades and have had a few minor claims but they were always very accommodating and settled quickly. The premiums were a little higher than some other companies but I thought it was worth it to know they had my back. Then I had a big claim. I totaled my 2017 Lincoln. No other cars were involved and there were no injuries to me or anyone else. The adjuster doesn't return calls and when I call him he has to call his supervisor before he can do anything. He continually blames the collision center holding my car for the delays. I always carried rental car coverage but when I asked for a rental I was told I didn't have it. I never authorized anyone to remove it. I am now paying for a rental out of my pocket. I have not been able to work because I'm not allowed to use a rental car and asked for lost wages. "Oh no, that's not covered on your policy". Their offers have been way below even the average estimated value and I refused their offer. It has been FIVE WEEKS now and nothing has been done. They have treated me like a step child. They could care less about the emotional and financial hardship they have caused me and refuse to compensate me for any of it. I am contacting the Insurance Commissioner and will definitely be taking my business somewhere else. Integrity and customer service is non-existent at Shelter

Lack of respect for disabled veterans

My father, a veteran passed away and shelter insurance sent a refund check to me and it was less than $100. To cash this check i would have had to open an estate ban account. The problrm was it would have cost $2,000 to hire the attorney to file this w the courts. It makes no sense to pay that much to cash a check so small. They would not issue another check to avoid this. I wonder how many other families of veterans they have done this to. Its not the money that is important it was the principal of it. I do not recommend this company to anyone. They do not care about the veterans of this country. I have spread the word about them and i hopr others will to.
