Money

I had money taken out of account by employees. Even employees admitted it. I had about $995.00 in account and it was mostly from Apple account. I looked at the account several months ago. I was told by an employee that the stock was split into 7. I thought this was Apple's thing... I later thought this can't be Apple. This would be illegal for them to do this to anyone account. I plan on talking to the manager and getting a copy of June report and also maybe May 2014 report. No one SHOULD have any authority to touch the stocks or taper with them. The stocks are significantly less by $600.00.

Deposits Accepted - Withdrawals Denied - Messy customer support

Sharebuilder is no more. Capital One is not Sharebuilder. Not even close. Customer support says I can only withdraw money into the bank account I initially used the fund the account back in 2007. It's almost 2014. I don't have that account any more. This problem is now too complicated for Capital One to deal with. I tried withdrawing money into accounts that worked without problem before, even accounts that are saved in my Sharebuilder withdrawal history, but now it is a problem because... well... no particular reason, just a change in policy. They can change policy whenever they want to. It's in a policy somewhere. If not, they'll make it up. Anyway, I can't trust these people. This brokerage account is useless if I cannot move money in and out of it without obstruction. Well, moving money into it isn't a problem at all. Moving money out is a challenge. If anyone else experiences this problem, just pull out. Customer service can't help you. Capital One seems to be stuck on ***. Just pull out.

Unilateral liquidation of asset

I would like to know if there has been a class action filed against Cap One/Sharebuilder for a recent action. I received a letter informing me that they were unilaterally liquidating an MLP(PER) in my IRA due to tax consequences. I've held the MLP for two years and there was no mention when I purchased it that I could not hold it in an IRA. Unfortunately the asset is DOWN 41%, but it does return over 18% so I'd like to hold until I recoup at least part of the loss. I get no satisfaction from their c/s people. Any ideas?

I ran into the same problem with them. Less than 30 days notice is not sufficient for a policy change of this magnitude.

Down $24k when they forced the sale this morning despite attemting to transfer assets to Scottrade. I'm all for a suit against them.

Sharebuilders is a Mess

I had two savings accounts and an online brokerage account with ING Direct. ING was taken over by Capital One, so now my brokerage account is with ShareBuilders. They are a complete mess. First, I purchased Facebook stock on the day of the IPO. What a fiasco. I planned on day trading the stock and selling on the upswing, but they could not confirm my purchase until the following day. OK, that may not be their fault because the Facebook IPO was a complete fiasco because NASDAQ completely blew it. I sold stock and ordered the funds to be bank wired to my checking account for a fee of $30 because I needed the money that day. I could have had the money transferred in 3 days for free. On the forth day I see the money still has not been transferred to my checking act. When I call, they said there had been some kind of problem "verifying" my account, so the money had not been transferred. They never notified me, they never did anything. Lucky I called. After spending a whole afternoon on the phone with them, they managed to transfer the money on day 5. I told them I shouldn't have to pay $30 because the money should have been moved 5 days ago. They said they would credit may account for $30. It gets worse but I don't have time to go into the rest of the details. The point is that they don't know what they are doing. Avoid this company. It's a joke

I feel your pain. Boy I wish I could have stayed away from the company. Folks avoid at all costs!,,

Tamitha Iol

first their site went down during the prime time of trading( 7 am pst time), I contacted them to complain they refuse to admit it but it happens that my husband is a network engineer and he tried to ping their domain and sever and both were NOT responding! while the website was down, my stocks were going down south, I couldn't sell on time and I lost a lot of money.

second, they forced me to liquidate my stock and close the account because my husband was trying to help me with my account! really! they said you have to have a joint account so he can help you! anyway, I had to sell all my stocks, some of them I lost money but I had to meet their due date! zero cooperation what so ever, add the lack of knowledge and rude customer service!

forgot to mention that their trade takes a lot longer time than any other online broker! be careful with that if you are their current client, time is money!

I strongly don't recommend Share Builder as a broker.

How a Bank Steals Money by "Not Receiving" Paperwork

Seven times my financial adviser sent forms to Sharebuilder's Washington office requesting they transfer my ROTH IRA to her company--with my signature. They claimed the first time there was no Medallion Signature Guarantee, the other 6 times they claimed they never received the paperwork. Now, fancy a bank that claims it does not receive requests to remove money from them! Better yet, when I screamed on the phone to them that I was going to contact a lawyer and sue them the money miraculously left my ShareBuilder account and arrived in the form of 2 checks to the company that had sent over oh-so-many copies of the same paperwork. Unfortunately, they didn't send all the money, so I'm still fighting. My first contact was August 6, 2012; today is January 14, 2013.

This is amazing. I am going through the exact situation with them. When I was reading this information I could not believe that it was almost identical to my experience.

Guest

They are doing the same exact thing to me! First they say that I must re-submit paperwork with medallion signature guarantee.

Next I must re-submit paperwork because they claim that I did not check off the Roth box which I did!!

Again I must go to the bank and get another medallion signature guarantee and re-submit the paperwork in triplicate! I'm starting to question if these shysters even have my money?!!!

Illegally took my money

I logged in tonight to see how my stocks were doing. 0.00 balance on 2 accounts. WHHHAAATTTT? I see they took all the money and wrote off the accounts for "Abandonment". I search the FAQ's and they themselves say state law says any account left unattended for 3 years is considered abandoned. I check my mails and see the last time I logged in was 6-2010. THAT IS NOT 3 YEARS. I am filing a complaint with BBB and whoever else I can think of. Going to call the states attorney wherever they are located also. They stole my money. BEWARE of this operation.

Sharebuilder is a big scam ripped me off twice

I opened 2 accounts for my kids to take advantage of a $50.00 bonus offer. I followed all the instructions they told me to qualify and in fact I emailed them within the window they gave me and they told me to wait that the money would be sent to my account within 3 to 6 weeks. The money never came and when I contacted them again I got 3 different answers from 3 different representatives. What a joke. This company ripped me off and lured me into opening these accounts and never gave me the money they offered me. I moving my money and my kids money out of this place. I am disgusted by this company with no morals and no ethic.

I have used Sharebuilder off and on since the early ING days. Fine company--they have always made good on their promotions in my experience if the specific terms are followed (incl.

one I did recently). Especially with the Costco Executive-based plan when it was still available, the option to fund only from the account when it reached a certain dollar level (i.e., controlling the commission cost) is one of the better strategies available for the DIY investor.

Never ever again.. Idiots accepted erroneous stock report with massive gains....DID ANYONE REVIEW THAT ??

CHECK THAT??FACT OR FICTION?? WENT TO BED LAST NITE THINKING I HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS SOLVED... TURNS OUT THE STOCK QUOTES THEY ACCEPTED AND PUT INTO MY PROFILE WERE FALSE!!!YES A LIE, AN UNTRUTH A LOAD OF BULL..

YOU GOT IT SOMEONE GOT F ING LAZY AND LET A MASSIVE COMPANY POST THE WRONG INFO!!!

WHAT WAS A 2500 DOLLAR STOCK IS NOW 6 CENTS HOW THE F DOES SOMEONE MAKE THAT KIND OF MISTAKE???????

Don't invest a large amount of money online as it will be difficult to access or contact if the online broker is unavailable. Better invest in brick and mortar companies where you can physically deposit money and know the people working there and is easier to resolve issues. If you have limited funds just deposit in a bank savings account.

Guest

You wouldn't get $50 per account only $50 total. You get free trades for referring a friend.

Sharebuilder is the best!

I have a Roth IRA, a trade account, and ELEVEN accounts for the grandkids. I got a $50 bonus for one of those, NOT ALL ELEVEN, you goof!

Guest

Capital One is a thieving company, period. The Sharebuilder complaints that I am reading about sound like just one of the schemes to steal the money of the vulnerable.

I stay away from them.

Guest

I got my lesson on 2009, when they block my account for 90 day ($50k)so they cuold money with my funds plus they real time streming platform yuo lose money with them be aware.

Guest

Sharebuilder steals money! I have lost lots of money as they take extra money for themselves after commission.

The trade confirmation doesn't match what is portrayed in your account!

Do not use sharebuilder! Shame on you Capital One!!!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-499030

You sure it isn't the commission? My trade price is reduced when I look at it but it is because the 7 dollar trade fee is included in the price per share.

The trade confirmation was probably right. What I see in my account doesn't match trade confirmation because the commission is factored in (as it should be)

Sharebuilder has been holding my 40k cash taht has been sitting in an account for months. Now I asked for it and 2 weeks later I still can't get it.

They want me to send them letters from my bank verifying my. I have done that, they keep asking for more and more. I'm on the phone all day long with them. They won't give me my money and Dan Greensheild the President, or any executive blocks all their information so they don't have to hold themselve accountable.

You guys are losers.

Please people, go to a local bank and do business. DO NOT USE SHAREBUILDER.

Sharebuilder shafts me again.

This morning, one of my companies submits absolutely horrible news. I've made quite a bit of profit in the run up until this news this morning, so I quickly try to access the website--but it's down. It's down!!! I'm sweating, frantically trying to access the website before all my profits melt away and I can't access it. Now, the website is still down, and I've LOST about $20K dollars..thanks to their website being down and restricting my ability to trade. Thanks Sharebuilder. I will never use you ever ever ever ever again!

It is share builders fault if there site goes down during trading hours.

Guest

Simple solution? Use a trailing stop sell order.

Or if they didn't support trailing stops, then should have used a regular stop and just moved the stop up as the price went up. Sheesh, I can't believe people complain like it's ShareBuilder's fault that PEOPLE don't know how to protect their profits.

Sharebuilder screwed me good

I was trying to roll over a 401k from another financial institution after changing employers. Sharebuilder sent me an EMAIL to let me know that they 'don't do business in my country of residence' The problem is I am a US citizen and reside in the US. I just wasn't physically there at the time the money would have been deposited. Since when does that establish residency?????? Well they refused the money and now my entire 401k sits in limbo between banks. The old one won't take it back because I am no longer in the employer plan. Sh*tbuilder won't deposit the money because I am out of town and I can't do anything with the check because it is not made out to. So what am I supposed to do? 'Contact customer service when I am back in the US' Yeah right...whatever....

Ever read the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution: A person born in the United States is a CITIZEN of the United States and a "RESIDENT" of the State wherein they reside. You live in the State of Germany (State means country), ipso facto, a "resident" of Germany who enjoys all the rights and protections of an American "Citizen".

Sharebuilder.com screwed me again

I called shabuilder.com tech support and they told me that there is no way to avoid the large order surcharge. After ordering over 44,000 shares I found some information in their help files. "This surcharge is not applicable to investments made with an Automatic Investment Plan." That cost me more than $789.

I love the way sharebuilder screws up a transfer from my bank account, accuses me of making an error with the account number, and then gets snotty. My bank can't even figure out what their problem is. Avoid these idiots like the plague.

Guest

It is a trade for long term holders but when you set an automatic trade and it takes all day to fill AND fills at the high of the day.....I'm leaving.....today.

Guest

sharebuilder is ONLY good for long term!!! not good for penny stocks! best brokerage account for penny stocks is etrade

Guest

Sharebuilder sucks big time. I have been there customer for 3 months and I have had several problems happened to me.

They restricted my account because I was trying to connect one of my bank accounts to sharebuilder. When I called them they told me to send me a letter from the bank to authenticate the account. I went to the bank and the bank required 5 business days to get the letter and I faxed the letter to sharebuilder. I am still waiting when my restriction will be lifted. It has wasted a lot of my time and money.

They have rude and arrogant customer service.

Stay away from SHAREBUILDER.

Guest

Sharebuilder isn't a broker for traders. It's for long term investors wanting to "build" shares in companies. You deserve to lose that money anyway when your dabbling in penny stocks trying to make a quick buck.

Also Jaylita... why did you set a stop loss sale instead to insure you get pretty close to the sales price you wanted.

I've been with Sharebuilder for 6 years and never had a problem, but then again I'm a long term investor. Leave if your wanting to try your luck at penny stocks, but don't go bashing a company that wasn't your fit in the beginning.

jaylitla

Today I purchased stocks and they had a "delay" in executing my order and bought it at high price! I called to complain, they said "unfortunately...blah blah blah" I dont care your website doesn't do its job of processing orders and costs us alot of $$$$ DONT GO TO SHAREBUILDER

jaylitla

please avoid sharebuilder. they rob u !

Guest

Wow these news are about as bad as they can get for a company , thanks for all the people's input .I was going to use this company so i am doing some research .Good stuff to know . Now I will never do business with them.

Guest

This morning, A company that I bought into that I've been dying to get rid of posts horrible news. That's it.

I'm gonna sell it off. But the website is down!!

So with 40,000 shares that I can't get access too, the shares PLUMMET and I can't sell them because their website is down. *** YOU SHAREBUILDER!

Sharebuilder.com screwed me 2 times

It was 1:40 PM Pacific Time on Monday and I noticed that my deposit would not be available until the next day and I wouldn't be able to buy until Wednesday morning. Sharebuilder.com tech support was helping me to be able to set up Express Funding and I could buy Tuesday morning. He told me to cancel my transaction and setup Express Funding but didn't tell me that wouldn't work for the stocks that I was buying and when re-established my transfer it after 2:00 PM and would have to wait an extra day. I lost my low price and it cost me over $1500.00 more to buy.

The same thing happened to me. I placed a trade and then sharebuilder depleted the funds in my account and took me over 2,000 into the negative.

I did not have express funding. I am seeking further legal action.

Guest

I was screwed as well. I placed an order and the price that the stock sold for was well beyond what the estimate was.

No problem there! The thing that I have a problem with is that they completed the transaction and depleted my 3000 in my account and then took me over 2000 more into the negative.

This transaction never should have taken place because I did not have express funding. Anyone else have a similiar issue.

Guest

A professional and responsible individual that represents a business will gauge the needs of the person they are interacting with accordingly. They had a resopnsability to inform of all the details involved.

I suppose people with no training or education wouldn't know that.

A business solves a problem for people, thats the ethical point of things. The sharebuilder rep was either dumb, or not interested in really helping.

Guest

I HONESTLY CAN SAY NOTHING IS WRONG THAT I CAN SEE HERE WITH SHARE BUILDER . THINGS DONT ALWAYS GO OUR WAY OR AGAINST US .

IT IS SIMPLE . YOU LOST MONEY AND ARE NOT HAPPY . OKAY , I AGREE .

NOW HOW DO YOU GENERATE A PROFIT NOW ? :cry

Guest

And that is ShareBuilder's fault?
